Noted Adulterer, Hypocrite and Race-Baiter Jesse Jackson Calls Phil Robertson’s Comments ‘More Offensive’ Than Rosa Parks Bus Driver

Lest you thought the battle over Phil Robertson’s comments about gays and Jim Crow-era relations might be calming—or even taking Christmas Day off—Reverend Jesse Jackson has waded in, and brought the controversy’s second Rosa Parks reference to boot.

“These statements uttered by Robertson are more offensive than the bus driver in Montgomery, Alabama, more than 59 years ago,” Jackson said in a press release. “At least the bus driver, who ordered Rosa Parks to surrender her seat to a white person, was following state law. Robertson’s statements were uttered freely and openly without cover of the law, within a context of what he seemed to believe was ‘white privilege.’”

An Illinois congressional candidate compared Robertson favorably to Parks earlier in the week.

In the statement Jackson demanded meetings with A&E, which suspended Robertson indefinitely, and Cracker Barrel, which momentarily pulled Duck Dynasty products from its shelves before replacing them following a public outcry. He also joined GLAAD and NOW in calling for Robertson’s suspension to continued until the issue is resolved.

On a chill if sunny winter's day, Jesse Jackson Jr. reminded the world of the perils of being born on third base and thinking you've hit a triple.

A symbol of entitlement run terribly amok, the former congressman pleaded guilty Wednesday to grossly misusing campaign funds. The juxtaposition of his pain with the far more upbeat reality of a former constituent, Barack Obama, provided its own cautionary note on the perils of hubris and the fragility of success.

Fresh from re-election and golf with Tiger Woods, President Obama is cool, confident and riding high. On Wednesday, he gave interviews at the White House to local TV anchors and sat down with his new Secretary of State, John Kerry.

Meanwhile, the 47-year-old preppie who was once the most prominent politician on Chicago's South Side sat solemn and forlorn in the nearby federal courthouse, his career in flames and personal life in likely disarray. A student of the Civil War, he might have equated his ignominy with General Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox.

The juxtaposition of Jackson and Obama forced the reminder that, not too long ago, Jackson was the black Chicago politician on a national fast track, long before anybody even knew Obama's name.

He won a special election to Congress in 1995, defeating rivals who included a state senator whose decision to run prompted Obama, an attorney and political neophyte, to go for her seat. As I listened to a federal judge detail the charges against Jackson, replete with buying reversible fur coats and Bruce Lee memorabilia, I couldn't help remember how Jackson's win signaled what many figured was a new era in Chicago and even national politics.

The son of a potent political and cultural figure, civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson, he became a source of worry to Chicago's powerful Daley family, who feared him as a potential challenger to Mayor Richard M. Daley.

And there was speculation of a similar order in the nation's capital, as noted Thursday by Mike Flannery, a Chicago TV political reporter and longtime Jackson family observer. Especially in his early Capitol Hill years, some foresaw that Jesse Jackson Jr. could be the first-ever African-American speaker of the House of Representatives.

After all, he was very bright, disciplined, articulate and able to cultivate young talent as he began building what seemed to be an emerging political machine in a South Side district long on poverty and violence, and short on hope. He was in a very safe Democratic district, took care of business and wound up on the very influential House Appropriations Committee, dispenser of seven- and eight-figure largess.

He didn't have his dad's charisma but he was more polished, if always less genuine than the international figure with whom frictions always existed, in part due to the pain often caused his mother by the father's roaming ways. It was not inconceivable that he one day could face off for power in the Democratic caucus against Rahm Emanuel, then a North Side congressman who envisioned himself as the first Jewish speaker of the House.

But as the years wore on, he blew it. He got a reputation as not especially hard working or effective in bringing home the bacon to his beleaguered district. He played his cards wrong with the Daley clan, who isolated him. Congressional colleagues felt that he didn't "deliver," as opposed to the maniacally focused Emanuel, who moved on to be Obama's chief of staff and now mayor of Chicago.

As Flannery puts it, there was an arrogance found in the prep and law school graduate that became increasingly apparent, one that perhaps morphed with bonafide self-delusion and even mental illness underscored by his brazen and crazy purchases with campaign monies.

First came his zealous attempt to lobby for Obama's U.S. Senate seat after Obama was elected President in 2008. The criminal trials of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich put a spotlight on Jackson contributors suggesting big money for the governor if he tapped Jackson as replacement. Jackson wasn't prosecuted but was tainted.

Then came word of an extramarital affair with a Washington bikini model and waitress, followed by the criminal probe of his campaign fund, a diagnosis of having bipolar disorder and his November resignation from Congress.

His tragic crash played out Wednesday in a doubleheader of family melancholy. First, he pleaded guilty, later telling me to "tell everybody in Chicago I know I let them down." Four hours later, his wife Sandi, now a former Chicago alderman, pleaded guilty to related tax charges. Each will be sentenced in four months, with the former congressman surely doing prison time.

U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Junior resigned from Congress effective Wednesday, citing the need to spend time "restoring my health."

Jackson, who announced his resignation in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, has been is the subject of several investigations and was recently treated at the Mayo Clinic for what was described as "several serious health issues."

"For 17 years I have given 100% of my time, energy, and life to public service," Jackson wrote. "However, over the past several months, as my health has deteriorated, my ability to serve the constituents of my district has continued to diminish. Against the recommendations of my doctors, I had hoped and tried to return to Washington and continue working on the issues that matter most to the people of the Second District. I know now that will not be possible."

Voters in his South Side Chicago district re-elected Jackson, 47, for a 10th two-year term this month, despite his legal and health troubles.

"The constituents of the Second District deserve a full-time legislator in Washington, something I cannot be for the foreseeable future," he wrote to Boehner. "My health issues and treatment regimen has been incompatible with service in the House of Representatives. Therefore, it is with great regret that I hereby resign as a member of the United States House of Representatives, effective today, in order to focus on restoring my health."

Jackson, the son of civil rights leader the Rev. Jesse Jackson, is the subject of investigations by the FBI and the House Ethics Committee involving possible financial improprieties.

His House colleagues are looking into allegations that he or one of his associates offered to raise money for then-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich in exchange for Jackson being appointed to the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama in 2008.

As the Herman Cain potential sexual harassment scandal continues to unfold, Bill O’Reilly has begun to question where civil rights leaders are standing on this issue, particularly Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. On his program last night, O’Reilly inquired as to was keeping them quiet, particularly since Cain had himself noted he believed race was a factor in the scrutiny. In a passionate but friendly exchange, O’Reilly challenged Dr. Marc Lamont Hill to give a non-partisan reason for their silence, to which he replied in sum that they had learned their lessons about jumping to defend people without all the facts.


“There’s nothing to jump into the game for,” Hill replied when asked why Sharpton and Jackson had not done so, as “their interest is justice, just like my interest is justice.” “I don’t think anything unjust is happening to Herman Cain,” he argued, noting that, as a presidential candidate, “he’s getting exactly what he deserves.” O’Reilly asked him to clarify, as none of the sexual harassment accusations were specific, to which Hill noted he didn’t believe the presumption of guilt was fair, but that Cain wasn’t receiving that so much as the standard media scrutiny that comes with running for President. Here the two difference. “We have a presumption of innocence in this country, and that is not in play right now,” O’Reilly argued, noting that the presumption of innocence is a cultural courtesy aside from its legal function after Hill argued that Cain wasn’t being convicted of a crime.


O’Reilly insisted that this was a political issue, however, and not a race one. “If this were a liberal politician, you can’t sit there and tell me Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton wouldn’t be screaming bloody murder,” O’Reilly argued. As they were civil rights activists and this isn’t a civil rights issue, however, Hill contended they had no place in the matter. Neither did they then, O’Reilly replied, with Tawana Brawley or OJ Simpson. “What you’re saying is that they’ve been wrong two times,” Hill replied, “now they should be wrong again with Herman Cain.” O’Reilly replied simply, “that’s rich!”


O’Reilly gave Hill the last word after expressing his very strong disbelief in the idea that Sharpton and Jackson were acting out of a “lesson learned” from past experiences, a point Hill reiterated, adding that the media scrutiny was just for a Presidential candidate.

Any prospect that the saga over Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich’s contested hold on power might end swiftly evaporated on Wednesday when the State Supreme Court refused to hear a request to remove him, and Mr. Blagojevich’s lawyer made it clear at an impeachment inquiry here that the governor had no intention of going quietly.

Without comment, the court denied an emergency request from Lisa Madigan, the state’s attorney general, to consider removing Mr. Blagojevich from office as well as a motion for a temporary restraining order that would have immediately stripped Mr. Blagojevich of many of his powers, including the authority to appoint someone to fill the United States Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.

The ruling stirred consternation among some lawmakers here, many of whom had seen the request to the court as the fastest, straightest route to Mr. Blagojevich’s departure, even if a bit of a long shot.

Good. Madigan's attempt to get the governor ousted was nothing more than a weak, vindictive move by an attorney general whose long disliked Blagojevich. In fact Madigan's well-known desire to one day be governor herself presents a clear conflict of interest that should force Madigan to remove herself from this entire matter. As we're seeing with Obama pal Jesse Jackson Jr. proving to be a snitch for the Feds and Rahm Emanuel, Barack's new chief-of-staff, having had multiple talks with Blago about Obama's Senate seat, this scandal is just opening up as Inauguration Day inches closer and closer. Barack certainly doesn't want this mess still hanging over his head when he starts his presidency. Bottom line, Rod Blagojevich is being scapegoated to protect Barack Obama from the stink of corruption that's long festered in the president-elect's home town and state. And that's why Blagojevich needs continue to fight these allegations and not resign.

Chicago Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., is the anonymous "Senate Candidate No. 5" whose emissaries Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich reportedly offered up to $1 million to name him to the U.S. Senate, federal law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

According to the FBI affidavit in the case, Blagojevich "stated he might be able to cut a deal with Senate Candidate 5 that provided Rod Blagojevich" with something "tangible up front."

Jackson said this morning he was contacted Tuesday by federal prosecutors in Chicago whom he said "asked me to come in and share with them my insights and thoughts about the selection process."

Jackson said, "I don't know" when asked whether he was Candidate No. 5, but said he was told "I am not a target of this investigation."

Jackson said he agreed to talk with federal investigators "as quickly as possible" after he consulted with a lawyer.

As many conservatives have ably noted over the years the Rev. Jesse Jackson has long been a scam artist. Whether it's lying about Martin Luther King Jr. dying in his hands, playing the race card to shake down individuals and corporations or fathering a child out of wedlock (amongst other dirty deeds), Jesse Jackson has always been an opportunist and a liar. When it comes to doing whatever it takes for personal gain, Jesse Jackson takes the cake....good to see that his son was paying attention.
