George W. Bush Takes Swipe At Jimmy Carter

Former President George W. Bush joked about his intelligence, said Dick Cheney is doing well following his fifth heart attack and took a shot at Jimmy Carter at a breakfast for the Bush-Cheney Alumni Association Friday morning. "This is going to come as quite a shock to people up here that I can write a book, much less read one," the former president said, according to Politico.

Mr. Bush is currently working on a memoir. He also reportedly told an audience of administration alumni that Cheney, who had planned to come to the meeting, was not able to attend following his recent heart attack. He said the former vice president is "feeling well" and "has a fierce constitution."

Added Mr. Bush: "I have no desire to see myself on television. I don't want to be a panel of formers instructing the currents on what to do...I'm trying to regain a sense of anonymity. I didn't like it when a certain former president -- and it wasn't 41 or 42 -- made my life miserable."

That appears to be a shot at former President Jimmy Carter (#39), who said back in 2006 that the Iraq war had been "a flat disaster" and that the Bush administration "and particularly the vice president and the secretary of defense have, I think, quite often deliberately misled the American people about the danger in Iraq to begin with, the causes for going to war in Iraq, and they have also misled the American people about what is happening in Iraq since we invaded."

Carter was also exceedingly critical of Cheney and called the Bush administration the "worst in history" from the perspective of its "adverse impact on the nation around the world," though he later walked back that comment as "maybe careless or misinterpreted."

Nice of W. to finally out against Jimmy "Worst President Ever" Carter's insane and reckless comments during his terms. Carter wasn't just an embarrassment as a President, but made himself into a jealous, prick for daring to criticize President Bush so openly. Then too, President Bush has shown a lot of class not responding to Barry as Obama continues to blame him for all the problems he promised to "change". Once again, Bush comes out on to here.

Obama Follows Bush, To Renew Patriot Act

Congress is sending President Barack Obama legislation that extends three provisions of the Patriot Act — despite heated debate among lawmakers that the surveillance measure goes too far.

The act, hastily adopted six weeks after the 2001 terror attacks, greatly expands the government’s ability to spy on Americans in the name of national security. Three measures of the act were set to expire at the end of 2009, but in December lawmakers extended the deadline to the end of February in hopes of reaching a compromise.

But no deal was reached by the end of the new Feb. 28 deadline. Instead, the Senate and House of Representatives ditched their two conflicting measures and extended the Patriot Act for another year without any changes. The final package was sent to the president Thursday for his expected signature.

Geez, maybe Colin Powell was right in criticizing Dick Cheney's allegations that Barry's been keeping us "less safe", when you consider that Obama has pretty much kept in place every national security policy that Bush started. See our enemies a lot different now that you're Prez, huh Barry?

Liberal Democrat Jim McDermott Tried To Sneak In Laws Friendly To Terrorists

The House approved an intelligence agency bill Friday after Democratic leaders hastily removed a provision that would have imposed prison sentences for personnel using "cruel, inhuman and degrading" interrogation techniques.

The controversial provision would have subjected intelligence officers to up to 15 years in prison for interrogations that violate existing anti-torture laws, including the use of extreme temperatures, acts causing sexual humiliation or depriving a prisoner of food, sleep or medical care.

Republicans strongly protested the measure when the bill came to the floor Thursday, forcing Democrats to pull the bill in order to avoid an unwanted debate on torture that could threaten passage of the legislation. It was reintroduced Friday with the interrogation provision removed.

The bill, passed 235-168, sets policy and classified funding levels for 16 federal intelligence agencies. The Senate has passed its own version, and differences must be worked out.

The torture provision, introduced by Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., defined cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of detainees and provided a penalty of up to 15 years in prison for using such techniques during an interrogation. It also said medical professionals who enable the use of improper treatment could face up to five years in prison.

McDermott said President Barack Obama last year extended the Army field manual's guidelines on interrogation tactics and his amendment was intended to expand on the president's order "to clearly define what constitutes a cruel, inhuman or degrading interrogation so that it is unmistakable what kinds of techniques are unacceptable."

But Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Michigan, top Republican on the intelligence committee, countered that the "annual intelligence bill should be about protecting and defending our nation, not targeting those we ask to do that deed and giving greater protections to terrorists."

Yet another reason why there needs to be dissent in this country.

Obama Calls Dick Cheney To Wish Him Well

President Obama called former Vice President Dick Cheney at home to wish him a speedy recovery from his latest heart attack, a rare truce in the fiery, arms-length debate the two have been having about national security over the last year.

A White House official said Thursday that the president called Mr. Cheney on Wednesday after the former vice president was released from George Washington University Hospital. Mr. Cheney was treated for what his office called a “mild heart attack,” his fifth over the last three decades.

Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. had previously called his predecessor while Mr. Cheney was still at the hospital. The White House did not announce Mr. Obama’s call on Wednesday but the official confirmed it in response to an inquiry. Mr. Cheney’s spokesman, Peter Long, said the former vice president “thanked him or the call and they enjoyed a pleasant, non-substantive conversation.”

In the year since Mr. Obama assumed the presidency, Mr. Cheney has become his fiercest and highest profile critic, particularly in terms of his handling of terrorism. At one point last year, Mr. Obama and Mr. Cheney gave back-to-back speeches assailing each other’s approach to detaining and interrogating suspected terrorists and just this month, Mr. Cheney appeared opposite Mr. Biden on Sunday talk shows in what amounted to a debate about the Obama presidency.

Hey when Barry does sometimes right for a change, we gotta give him credit. Unlike pricks like Ed Schultz, this was a classy move by the Teleprompter-in-Chief.

New York Governor David Paterson Will Not Seek Re-election

A scandal-scarred Gov. Paterson is pulling the plug on his short-lived election campaign.

Paterson, under investigation by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo for contacting a woman who accused one of his top aides of domestic violence, is making it official with an announcement from his Manhattan office at 3 p.m.

Top Democrats say stopping the campaign isn't enough: He should leave office now.

"If the investigation turns out the way many suspect, his resignation is almost inevitable," state Sen. Bill Perkins, who hold Paterson's old Harlem Senate seat, told WNYC.

"If that is the case, then it is in the best interest of the people of New York for him to cut bait now," Perkins insisted.

To be fair to Paterson, he didn't ask for the bitter mess that is New York politics. It was Eliot Spitzer's love for hookers that forced Paterson into the job and clearly from jump he's been overwhelmed. Paterson shouldn't resign tho, better to keep his head up and fight this latest scandal.

Democrat Congressman Charles Rangel Found Guilty Of Ethics Violations

Rep. Charles Rangel, the most powerful tax-writing lawmaker in Congress and a 40-year veteran of Capitol Hill, acknowledged Thursday that an ethics panel has accused him of accepting corporate money for Caribbean trips in violation of House rules.

The findings are certain to raise questions of whether Rangel, a New York Democrat, can continue as Ways and Means Committee chairman in an election year. Democrats took over the House in 2006 on a campaign promise to ''end a culture of corruption'' in Congress that they blamed on 12 years of Republican rule.

Charles Rangel is a liar and a hypocrite whose been abusing his power in Congress for far too long. If he had any dignity he'd do the right thing and resign.

President Barack Obama launched a vigorous defense of his economic agenda Wednesday, rejecting critics who call his policies "socialism" and insisting he aims to boost U.S. competitiveness abroad.

Speaking to the Business Roundtable, which groups some of the country's top chief executives, Obama called for support of his administration's efforts to overhaul financial regulation and create jobs.

Obama's remarks were set against a backdrop of unease in the business community about his economic and budget policies as well as his legislative drive for healthcare, energy and financial regulatory reform.

"Contrary to the claims of some of my critics, I am an ardent believer in the free market," Obama said in prepared remarks.

Every major policy Barry's introduced as Prez has added up to Socialism. Don't run away from the truth, embrace it.

Fake Rape Victim Gets Jail Time For Sending Innocent Man To Prison

A New York judge said a woman will spend one to three years in prison for falsely accusing a man of rape, resulting in him serving prison time.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon sentenced Biurny Peguero Gonzalez to prison for perjury connected to rape allegations she made against William McCaffrey in 2005, The New York Post said Wednesday.

As a result of the rape allegations, McCaffrey served nearly four years in prison.

"What happened in this case is one of the worst things that can possibly happen in our criminal justice system," Solomon said of the wrongful conviction of McCaffrey, 33.

The Post said Gonzalez, 27, recanted her allegations in 2009, saying she made up the story to gain sympathy from a group of her friends.

"To Mr. McCaffrey, I am aware that nothing I do or say to him can bring back the years he spent in jail," said the mother-of-two, who will be eligible for parole after a year in prison. "I want him to know I will carry this guilt for the rest of my life."

Good. Thanks to the radical feminist movement and their "women couldn't possibly lie about being raped" spiels over the years, too often we've seen innocent men put in prison for sexual assaults they didn't commit. But then from child support to alimony to sexual harassment to rape, the system almost always sides with women (many of whom still often complain about the lack of "equal rights"), regardless of the facts. Women who lie about being raped not only make it harder for real rape victims, but they should do time behind bars.

Donny Deutsch, Contributor To Lily-White MSNBC, Throws Racist Slur At Hispanics

Deutsch appeared on HLN's Joy Behar Show and used the word, which both the New York Times and Urban Dictionary define as a "person who is tan on the outside" and "white on the inside." Deutsch employed the derogatory term while hitting politicians with no experience. He noted the success of such candidates and derided, "...You almost need that blank piece of paper. That's the new model. Like, you know, this coconut Rubio down in Florida."

Obama Recession Continues With New Home Sales Lowest On Record

Sales of new homes plunged to a record low in January, underscoring the formidable challenges facing the housing industry as it tries to recover from the worst slump in decades.

The Commerce Department reported Wednesday that new home sales dropped 11.2 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual sales pace of 309,000 units, the lowest level on records going back nearly a half century. The big drop was a surprise to economists who had expected sales would rise about 5 percent over December's pace.

While winter storms were partly to blame, home sales have fallen for three straight months despite sweeping government support. Economists were already worried that an improvement in sales in the second half of last year could falter as various government support programs are withdrawn.

"There is no doubt that January and February are going to be messy months for housing, given the severe weather conditions, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the housing sector has taken another big step back, even with the government aid," Jennifer Lee, a senior economist at BMO Capital Markets, said in a research note.

January's weakness was evident in all regions except the Midwest, where sales posted a 2.1 percent increase. Sales were down 35 percent in the Northeast, 12 percent in the West and almost 10 percent in the South.

The drop in sales pushed the median sales price down to $203.500. That was down 5.6 percent from December's median sales price of $215,600, and off 2.4 percent from year-ago prices.

New home sales for all of 2009 had fallen by almost 23 percent to 374,000, the worst year on record. The National Association of Home Builders is forecasting that sales will rise to more than 500,000 sales this year, an improvement from 2009 but still far below the boom years of 2003 through 2006 when builders clocked more than 1 million new home sales per year.

In 2008 Americans voted for "change", two years later they're suffering worse than they've ever suffered before. Now the people at the top need to be changed.

Senator James Inhofe Calls For EPA Probe Of Scientists' Climate Change E-mails

The Senate's top global warming skeptic on Tuesday said he will ask the Environmental Protection Agency's inspector general to probe the use of climate change data now at the center of an international inquiry for an endangerment finding that gives the EPA authority to regulate greenhouse gases.

Sen James Inhofe, R-Okla., said EPA administrator Lisa Jackson's decision to rely on information from the U.N.'s International Panel on Climate Change to institute the endangerment finding is

Harry Reid Says Men Tend To Get Abusive When They're Out Of Work

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) suggested Monday that domestic violence by men has increased due to U.S. joblessness.

Reid, speaking in the midst of a Senate debate over whether to pass a $15 billion package meant to spur job creation, appeared to argue that joblessness would lead to more domestic violence. "I met with some people while I was home dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand," Reid said on the Senate floor. "Why? Men don't have jobs."

Reid said that the effects of joblessness on domestic violence were especially pronounced among men, because, Reid said, women tend to be less abusive. "Women don't have jobs either, but women aren’t abusive, most of the time," he said. "Men, when they're out of work, tend to become abusive," the majority leader added. "Our domestic crisis shelters in Nevada are jammed.”

Reid's remarks aren't the first controversial remarks he's made on the Senate floor. He said in the midst of December's heated healthcare debate that the Senate needed a "Rodney King" moment where members could "all try to get along," channeling the plea of King, who pleaded with L.A. to calm itself after its 1991 race riots.

The Senate supported cloture in a 62-30 vote on Monday evening.
