Obama Overruled Top 2 Lawyers In Libya War Debate

President Obama rejected the views of top lawyers at the Pentagon and the Justice Department when he decided that he had the legal authority to continue American military participation in the air war in Libya without Congressional authorization, according to officials familiar with internal administration deliberations.


Jeh C. Johnson, the Pentagon general counsel, and Caroline D. Krass, the acting head of the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, had told the White House that they believed that the United States military’s activities in the NATO-led air war amounted to “hostilities.” Under the War Powers Resolution, that would have required Mr. Obama to terminate or scale back the mission after May 20.


But Mr. Obama decided instead to adopt the legal analysis of several other senior members of his legal team — including the White House counsel, Robert Bauer, and the State Department legal adviser, Harold H. Koh — who argued that the United States military’s activities fell short of “hostilities.” Under that view, Mr. Obama needed no permission from Congress to continue the mission unchanged.


Presidents have the legal authority to override the legal conclusions of the Office of Legal Counsel and to act in a manner that is contrary to its advice, but it is extraordinarily rare for that to happen. Under normal circumstances, the office’s interpretation of the law is legally binding on the executive branch.


A White House spokesman, Eric Schultz, said there had been “a full airing of views within the administration and a robust process” that led Mr. Obama to his view that the Libya campaign was not covered by a provision of the War Powers Resolution that requires presidents to halt unauthorized hostilities after 60 days.

Anderson Cooper Gives Bill Maher An Unchallenged Platform To Trash GOP Slate

Just when you thought Anderson was a non-partisan, straight-shooter with both sides of the political aisle he lets a leftist, smear machine with a bitter hatred for Republicans like Bill Maher get away unscathed during this interview:

Anderson Cooper is a smart guy. He seems to know that his role in delivering news is to stay as unbiased as possible, even at the risk of sometimes being a tad bland. How, then, does Cooper host an entertaining news show? Invite on a fearless provocateur whose stock-in-trade is delivering barbed assaults on those whom he deems to be his intellectual inferiors, mostly those of the Republican stripe. Someone like Bill Maher, who, last night, ruthlessly blasted the Republican candidates on display during CNN’s GOP debate.


In the segment embedded below, Maher ruthlessly slammed nearly every GOP candidate who participated in the debate this week, and even found room to deride those who did not participate, calling Sarah Palin a “ditz,” for example. He did find time to laud Ron Paul to some degree, saying that he was the one candidate that he could get behind, but for the most part he mercilessly blasted, not just every other participant, but the entire affair.


Cooper is, without question, the face of CNN, a role which he seems not only relish and take seriously, but has earned him the respect of his peers. In fact, this site has often cited Cooper’s excellent reportage (particularly in areas of conflict and disaster) as well as his often smart and insightful segment called “Keeping Them Honest,” which regularly holds accountable false accounts or irresponsible hyperbole.


But should CNN really be that comfortable with the “face” of their network giving such an unchallenged platform to such a biased commentator? Wouldn’t it be more fair to at least have someone to rebut his point of view, or to add a different perspective? Put another way, how often has Cooper had on, as guest, Maher’s equivalent on the right, say his old pal Ann Coulter, who appears to take a similar approach to Maher’s in the business of outrage? Yes, we are aware that Coulter has appeared on AC360, but the tone of those discussions appear very different than the amused and convivial conversations that Cooper shares with Maher. Just keeping them honest.

Openly-gay CNN anchor Don Lemon badgered GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum over his views on gay marriage Friday, questioning his stance on gay rights and if he really had any gay friends. A brief clip of the interview that aired on Newsroom Friday afternoon revealed Lemon to be fairly testy in his questions.

Having revealed in May that he is gay, Lemon defended his objectivity as a journalist and dismissed the notion that he would be biased on the gay rights debate. But later he told a pro-gay newspaper "I hope to change minds" as an openly-gay journalist, and that there should be more journalists who come out. NewsBusters has documented Lemon's history of pro-gay bias.

First, any conservative should've known that the minute Don Lemon "outed" himself as gay the other day, his chance's of being a fair and impartial reporter immediately went to zero. Second, Santorum does a tremendous job here--he was prepared, didn't back down from Lemon's lame attempts (I mean, citing Joy Behar as some sort of credible pundit?!?) to smear him and totally stood his ground. Lastly, if CNN has any credibility left they'd fire Lemon for conducting a shameless interview like this. This was nothing but an attempt to bully and smear a conservative presidential candidate on a subject the anchor has a personal stake in. There wasn't any attempt to be fair or objective and Lemon is an a-hole for acting in such a non-professional manner. Just fire the bastard and let him get a show on MSNBC if he wants to do nothing but push the homosexual agenda, they'd take him in a heartbeat (and Lord knows that they can use some color over there).

In a news cycle dominated by a nude Congressman and an election more than a year away, the Sarah Palin email dump may have almost been a breath of fresh air– had there been anything remote interesting in her files. On tonight’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart berated the media for looking for their Palin drug hit and taking the rest of the country on a wild goose chase through files of mundane bureaucratic files.


Hoping against hope that the Palin emails would contain vulgar Twitter photos, Stewart began the segment biting his nails over the dramatic insights the Palin emails could potentially harbor. What “devastating, newsworthy” stuff could they contain? The media found such insights as Palin debating whether she should pose for a fitness magazine and a letter of a constituent complaining that Palin “was spotted with Trig in a car not wearing an approved car seat.”


“Why are you wasting our time?!” an exasperated Stewart asked, looking deeper into the desperation journalists appeared to have in finding little to nothing interesting in her emails. Finally, after finding nothing new of interest in the large piles of physically printed out emails, Stewart discovered a clip of a reporter trying to find meaning to the entire ordeal, asking whether, in Stewart’s words, the emails were “something, nothing, or somewhere between something and nothing.”

In Order To Save Career, Tracy Morgan Forced To Stand Up For Gays After Crossing Gay Mafia

Of course, when Tracy Morgan went on national TV and talked about how Sarah Palin makes for "good masturbation material", the liberal media sighed and laughed along right with him. After all, nothing beats a good joke about a conservative, especially one hated so much by liberals. But now Morgan finds himself in extremely hot water after making a joke about how he'd "kill his son" if he ever caught him acting gay and now the same liberal press wants him hanged:

Tracy Morgan said on Friday that he's sorry for his homophobic rant earlier this month -- and it looks like he's willing to put his words into action.


In an interview with Russell Simmons at Global Grind, Morgan apologized again for his verbal tirade that sparked national outrage, swore off his hate speech and came out for marriage equality.


"Of all the sicknesses, there is probably none more abusive than homophobia. My heart is committed to giving everyone the same rights that I deserve for myself," Morgan said. "I don't care if you love the same sex as long as you have the ability to love someone I am deeply sorry for the comments I made. What I am most sad about is the comments I made about kids and bullying."


Morgan also noted his support for gays serving in the military -- an issue solved by the recent repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and then insisted he believed in gay marriage, too.


"I believe everyone deserves the right to be happy and marry who they want too; gay, white, black, male or female. Let me know where the rally's at Russ. I'm there!" Morgan promised.


The words came as he works to make amends, not only with his public, but his friends, too. Tina Fey, his "30 Rock" co-star and executive producer slammed his comments but noted that she believed Morgan was a loving person.


"It also doesn't line up with the Tracy Morgan I know, who is not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person," Fey said in a statement.

Mind you, I've never found Tracy Morgan to be particularly funny. But ever since his days on "Martin" he's done a pretty good job at playing to urban stereotypes with characters that exploit such fare. And at the end of the day Morgan is a comedian with a long history of saying controversial stuff who has parlayed his act into a rich and lucrative career by basically being himself, all the while buddying up to Tina Fey (yunno, the liberal comedian, former head writer at "Saturday Night Live" and infamous Sarah Palin impressio). So for the most part Morgan was "safe", but what he probably didn't know what safe means to liberals--smile for the cameras, toe the line, remember to thank us for pulling you out of the ghetto every chance to get and most of all don't you ever, ever even try to tiptoe on the liberal agenda, which of course, revolves around teh gheys. Now in order to save his job, career and liveilhood Morgan has to not only apologize for his "evil" remarks, but speak against "homophobia", come out for "marriage equality" and yunno, do all the good things good Hollywood liberals do. Shoot, don't be surprised if you see Morgan marching in one of those "gay pride" marches with hot pink pants on soon a street near you.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Is An Idiot

Following in the steps of idiots like Michael Steele and Ken Mehlman, new RNC Chairman Reince Priebus is proving that a lack of brain cells is all it takes to be the spokesman of the GOP. While everyone on the planet thinks that the longer Anthony Weiner hangs in there and refuses to resign his position as congressman is a huge plus for Republicans, Priebus is the sole yahoo begging for Weiner to exit stage left. Then too, instead of hanging back and laying low (esp. when your own party has a sitting (and married) congressman who used to dally with prostitutes), Priebus wants to make the news rounds and exploit the Democratic sex scandal for his party's gain. As Joe Scarborough points out this strategy is nothing but an utter fail:

On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough previously shared his hesitancy to cover the Anthony Weiner scandal at all until it had real political developments. Now that the Democratic leadership in the House is calling for Weiner’s resignation, Scarborough is ready to discuss the topic, but is not pleased that Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is attempting to exploit the controversy for his party’s political gain.


The panel discussed a Meet the Press appearance by Priebus and DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz where Priebus attacked Democrats for not showing leadership and for spending many days trying to protect Weiner’s job. Scarborough responded to the exchange suggesting Priebus should “back off,” because he is sick of seeing the leaders of one political party always attempt to exploit the scandals of their opponents:


“It’s just stupid. Seriously, just shut up. You know what, that’s what I hate about the coverage of these scandals. . . . That was a stupid exchange over the weekend, especially when you had Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, all of them saying [to Weiner] ‘get out.’”


Scarborough’s co-host Mika Brzezinski agreed:


“This is for the Democratic party to deal with, it’s obviously sad, it’s obviously going downhill. Wouldn’t you, if you were a Republican leader right now, just back off and let that train keep going?”


Scarborough was impressed with how quickly and aggressively the Democratic leadership moved against Weiner and later in the segment maintained that he thought Priebus’ “cheap shot” was a “desperate plea.”

Lamestream Media's Witch Hunt For Sarah Palin's Emails Reveal Nothing

Really, now I've never witnessed anything like this, but so vast is the MSM's contempt and hatred for Sarah Palin that this lame attempt at a "gotcha" moment over citizen Sarah's emails should surprise no one:

Thousands of pages of e-mail from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's administration range from the mundane details of governing to efforts to crack down on state news leaks and push back against critics.


Scattered among the 24,000 pages, released by state officials in Juneau on Friday, are glimpses of Palin periodically butting heads with top Alaskan political figures as she pushed to get landmark oil and gas legislation through the statehouse; demanding that Exxon finish paying damages for the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill; even dealing with complaints about high school football rivalries by offering to bake brownies.


By June 2008, she was being sought out by national news outlets and being talked up as potential running mate for Republican presidential nominee John McCain. But the documents show her battling Alaska reporters even as McCain was preparing to put her on the national stage.


In a July 26, 2008, exchange, Palin seeks out someone to submit a letter she drafted to the Anchorage Daily News. The letter would have been a rebuttal to another one that questioned Palin's support for the Miss Alaska pageant, because she failed to attend the 2008 event.


In the exchange, Palin aide Ivy Frye suggested one candidate "would be perfect as she knows the pageant world but also she knows how busy you and Todd are" and notes that her staff was "rallying the troops" to get other letters published. Palin responds by pointing out that another aide "had one [letter] yest about kopp so won't run more from him I'd presume. Yes, make sure no dups [duplications] if letter goes out."


It was unclear from the documents whether the Palin-drafted letter was published.


Palin has railed against the "lamestream media" since her rocky start in national politics, when McCain chose the then-obscure first-term governor as his running mate. The records released this week came in response to Freedom of Information Act requests filed by news organizations during the 2008 race, with a further request covering the months leading up to her 2009 resignation still pending.
