Joe Scarborough Blasts Conservative Media: Don’t ‘Antagonize’ Black Voters ‘Just Because You Hate Al Sharpton’

He's right. Some conservatives do not believe in compromise, much less have a 'gray area'. These people are extremists and they exist on both the Left and the Right. While the Left has far more extremists than does the Right, both sides hurt their cause due to their blatant self-righteousness (i.e. ignorance) refuses to allow them to admit to being wrong, even when the facts stare at them in the face. Granted, in the case of George Zimmerman, conservatives who believe his trial was race-motivated and nothing but another attempt by white liberals to play the race card, do have a point. And sure, there are many conservatives who believe that no matter hard they try, they will never win over black Americans, esp. those who knowingly choose 'victimhood' and government aide over hard work, family values and education. Hence their hate/anger at the race-baiters on the Left. But still, a little empathy here, at least, for two parents who lost their child:

That was Joe Scarborough’s point when he linked the conservative press’ coverage of the Trayvon Martin story to the GOP’s inability to break into double-digits with African American voters. 

“Why is it that Republicans, certain elements of our party, seem to go out of their way to inflame minority voters?” Scarborough asked his panel Tuesday morning. “I know I can count on conservative outlets to have a one-sided view, and to talk about how a dead boy had it coming, and he was on marijuana, he was on pot, he was this, he was that…I would like in my lifetime for the Republican Party to get more than six percent of the African American vote.”

“It wasn’t always this way,” Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson said. “Republicans used to get a huge chunk of African American vote. Now they don’t.”

Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele argued that the possible gains in minority votes were so slim, whatever the reason, that the GOP had little incentive to chase them. “Can we put on the table getting more than six percent is not going to happen in the next four years?” Steele said. “Even if those same voices you’re alluding to, Joe, had come out and were reasonable in their response as opposed to extreme in their response in some cases, there’s still a heck of a lot more that needs to be done than just saying something nice or politically correct in the Trayvon Martin case.”

Both Steele and Robinson agreed that stereotypes were in play, but Robinson made the point that with a conservative electorate growing whiter and whiter with each demographic shift, conservative outlets had even more reason to tailor coverage to racially-specific expectations.

“I have a suggestion: just because Al Sharpton is doing something and you hate Al Sharpton, doesn’t mean you help your party or your cause by going in the complete opposite direction,” Scarborough said. “Maybe sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. Maybe sometimes conservative outlets should sit back and not purposefully antagonize African Americans.”

Steele argued that the spin was spun on both sides. “It’s easier to fall into the stereotype and continue to project that than to actually sit back and recognize the reality that racism is still a sinister part of the culture and environment that African Americans, and quite frankly a lot of Americans, still have to live in,” Steele said. “It’s easier to project outward that that just doesn’t exist, because ‘I’m not that way, therefore anyone who brings this up must somehow be trying to stoke these flames, et cetera.’ I think it happens on both the right and left. I watched, as you did, to my great frustration, some on our network as well as other networks, stoke the flames in different directions, raising up images of the past with no linkage at all to the case.”

Today's Morning Joe opened with a clip of Mitt Romney telling David Gregory that it was a thrill to have  Eastwood speak on his behalf at the RNC, and that he felt Eastwood spoke "from the heart."  Scarborough came on and said that rather than speaking from the heart, Eastwood spoke more "from the bottom of a bottle."

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was seemingly surprised — at least at first — when plucky Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart appeared on Morning Joe and held his feet to the fire over his decision to veto same-sex marriage, or, as Capehart saw it, putting civil rights up for a referendum.


“Governor Christie, I heard you say that you have your feet firmly planted next to President Obama on this issue, but the key difference between you and the President is while you support putting the civil rights of that minority up for a public referendum, the President is not in favor of that.”


Co-host Mika Brzezinski had noticed Capehart — who was a guest on Willie Geist‘s show earlier, and had just been hanging around on set — looked keen to weigh in and had him put on a mic, as a flabbergasted Christie turned around in surprise.


“Has he said that, Jonathan?” Christie shot back. “Jonathan, has he said that? I haven’t heard him say that…he’s silent on the issue, like he’s silent on every issue that’s difficult for him.”


“He’s not silent on this,” countered Capehart. “Governor Christie, he is not! The president and the Justice Department have made it clear that they believe the so-called Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional. They’re not supporting it in the court cases going through the Federal court system. As President of the United States, would you support that?”


Christie then became agitated by Capehart’s questioning.


“Hold on, hold on! Jonathan, first of all, I used to be a prosecutor!” snapped Christie. “I’m not going to be cross-examined by you this morning.”


“I’m having fun trying!” exclaimed Capehart.


“And you’re going to lose,” sharply replied Christie. “So let’s just move on.”


“I would love for you to answer the question,” pressed Capehart.


“Here’s the answer to the question,” Christie said. “Let’s have the President of the United States show some courage, come on this program, look into the camera like I’m looking into the camera, and state his position. He won’t because he wants to have it both ways. I’m not looking to have it both ways. I vetoed the bill. That’s my position.” Christie added that he offered to the supporters of the bill this: that if their argument that most of New Jersey wants same-sex marriage, then they can prove it at the ballot box. “At least I’m standing up to what I believe in,” Christie said. “The President has hidden on this issue, Jonathan! He opposes same sex marriage! The President opposes same sex marriage, Jonathan!”

Joe Scarborough: The Way The Mainstream Media Covered For Obama’s Negative Ads Is ‘Shameful’

The Morning Joe crew took a look at the fallout from — and the benefits of — using negative ad campaigns in presidential elections. The panelists agreed that Mitt Romney‘s success in the Florida primary was tied to his decision to “hit back” against Newt Gingrich‘s slew of negative campaign ads, both with his own ads and during debates.


Host Joe Scarborough was quick to remind everyone that, back in 2008, Barack Obama launched his own barrage of ultimately successful negative campaign ads:


I don’t know a lot of candidates that wouldn’t rather win ugly than lose pretty. Jon Huntsman lost pretty. Mitt Romney, this past week, won ugly. But, that’s…. I mean, Barack Obama won ugly in 2008; he ran more negative ads than anybody else in the history of television. He ran so many negative ads that he actually swung ahead of John McCain on the question of who do you trust more on taxes. ‘Cause remember the grainy, negative, false, misleading ads that he ran over and over again. [...] I mean, these negative ads worked.


Later, Mika Brzezinski noted that the President had sat himself in the driver’s seat of a sports car at the DC auto show, “as he should.” “I’m not trying to be smug,” she added.


Scarborough got a laugh out of that before turning to panelist Donny Deutsch. “Well, there’s no need to be smug,” Scarborough said. “This is going to be a tough, long campaign. But, Donny Deutsch, the man in the driver’s seat right there ran more negative ads — 30-second ads, 4 years ago — than any candidate in history.”


“The only difference,” he added, “between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney is the mainstream media — every network, The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post — they all covered for him. Nobody wrote that story because they all wanted him to him. It was shameful the way they covered for him.”


Deutsch, meanwhile, felt we should retire the term “negative ads.”


“Why?” asked Scarborough. “Because I attached it to Barack Obama?”


Brzezinski, all the while, kept trying to get Scarborough to answer a question about whether the President is “literally and figuratively in the driver’s seat.”


“No!” he said, finally.

The Left’s So-Called Empathy For Rick Santorum

Lest you doubt that we’re headed for the most vicious election year in memory, consider the determined effort, within ten minutes of his triumph in Iowa, to weirdify Rick Santorum. Discussing the surging senator on Fox News, Alan Colmes mused on some of the “crazy things” he’s said and done.


Santorum has certainly said and done many crazy things, as have most members of America’s political class, but the “crazy thing” Colmes chose to focus on was Santorum’s “taking his two-hour-old baby when it died right after childbirth home,” whereupon he “played with it.” My National Review colleague Rich Lowry rightly slapped down Alan on air, and Colmes subsequently apologized, though not before Mrs. Santorum had been reduced to tears by his remarks. Undeterred, Eugene Robinson, the Pulitzer Prize–winning Washington Post columnist, doubled down on stupid and insisted that Deadbabygate demonstrated how Santorum is “not a little weird, he’s really weird.”


The short life of Gabriel Santorum would seem a curious priority for political discourse at a time when the Brokest Nation in History is hurtling toward its rendezvous with destiny. But needs must, and victory by any means necessary. In 2008, the Left gleefully mocked Sarah Palin’s live baby. It was only a matter of time before they moved on to a dead one.


Not many of us will ever know what it’s like to have a child who lives only a few hours. That alone should occasion a certain modesty about presuming to know what are “weird” and unweird reactions to such an event.


In 1996, the Santorums were told during the pregnancy that their baby had a fatal birth defect and would not survive more than a few hours outside the womb. So Gabriel was born, his parents bundled him, and held him, and baptized him. And two hours later he died. They decided to take his body back to the home he would never know. Weirdly enough, this crazy weird behavior is in line with the advice of the American Pregnancy Association, which says that “it is important for your family members to spend time with the baby” and “help them come to terms with their loss.”


Would I do it? Dunno. Hope I never have to find out. Many years ago, a friend of mine discovered in the final hours of labor that her child was dead but that she would still have to deliver him. I went round to visit her shortly after, not relishing the prospect but feeling that it was one of those things one was bound to do. I ditched the baby gift I’d bought a few days earlier but kept the flowers and chocolate. My friend had photographs of the dead newborn. What do you say? Oh, he’s got your face?


I was a callow pup in my early twenties, with no paternal instincts and no great empathetic capacity. But I understood that I was in the presence of someone who had undergone a profound and harrowing experience, one which it would be insanely arrogant for those of us not so ill-starred to judge.


There but for the grace of God go I, as we used to say.


There is something telling about what Peter Wehner at Commentary rightly called the “casual cruelty” of Eugene Robinson. The Left endlessly trumpets its “empathy.” President Obama, for example, has said that what he looks for in his judges is “the depth and breadth of one’s empathy.” As he told his pro-abortion pals at Planned Parenthood, “we need somebody who’s got the heart — the empathy — to recognize what it’s like to be a young teenage mom.” Empathy, empathy, empathy: You barely heard the word outside clinical circles until the liberals decided it was one of those accessories no self-proclaimed caring progressive should be without.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Is An Idiot

Following in the steps of idiots like Michael Steele and Ken Mehlman, new RNC Chairman Reince Priebus is proving that a lack of brain cells is all it takes to be the spokesman of the GOP. While everyone on the planet thinks that the longer Anthony Weiner hangs in there and refuses to resign his position as congressman is a huge plus for Republicans, Priebus is the sole yahoo begging for Weiner to exit stage left. Then too, instead of hanging back and laying low (esp. when your own party has a sitting (and married) congressman who used to dally with prostitutes), Priebus wants to make the news rounds and exploit the Democratic sex scandal for his party's gain. As Joe Scarborough points out this strategy is nothing but an utter fail:

On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough previously shared his hesitancy to cover the Anthony Weiner scandal at all until it had real political developments. Now that the Democratic leadership in the House is calling for Weiner’s resignation, Scarborough is ready to discuss the topic, but is not pleased that Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is attempting to exploit the controversy for his party’s political gain.


The panel discussed a Meet the Press appearance by Priebus and DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz where Priebus attacked Democrats for not showing leadership and for spending many days trying to protect Weiner’s job. Scarborough responded to the exchange suggesting Priebus should “back off,” because he is sick of seeing the leaders of one political party always attempt to exploit the scandals of their opponents:


“It’s just stupid. Seriously, just shut up. You know what, that’s what I hate about the coverage of these scandals. . . . That was a stupid exchange over the weekend, especially when you had Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, all of them saying [to Weiner] ‘get out.’”


Scarborough’s co-host Mika Brzezinski agreed:


“This is for the Democratic party to deal with, it’s obviously sad, it’s obviously going downhill. Wouldn’t you, if you were a Republican leader right now, just back off and let that train keep going?”


Scarborough was impressed with how quickly and aggressively the Democratic leadership moved against Weiner and later in the segment maintained that he thought Priebus’ “cheap shot” was a “desperate plea.”

Joe Scarborough: Media Outlets “Never Say Clinton Appointee” During Controversy

The story of How Bill Clinton Got His Groove Back continued today on Morning Joe, where Joe Scarborough took offense to what he sees as media bias for the former Democratic president. Mika Brzezinski characterized Judge Henry Hudson as a “George W. Bush appointee,” and it was that qualifier that so irked Scarborough. “They never say Clinton appointee” when one is implicated in an unpopular event, he said. But whenever there’s controversy, there are Bush appointees and Reagan appointees all over the place—including MSNBC, he made sure to note.


“It was our staff that did it this time,” he said, before launching into his mini-rant on the matter. Newsweek escapee Jon Meacham was there to “totally agree” with him, offering that “it shows a certain tendency to caricature the right.”


This morning’s MSNBC argument corresponds to last night’s MSNBC argument, which had Chuck Todd musing to Chris Matthews that there a lot of “Clinton Kool-Aid drinkers” in the media who are “enamored” with any “shiny metal object that has the Clinton name on it.”


Scarborough, however, isn’t as star-struck by the Secretary of State’s husband, which you can see for yourself in the MSNBC clip below.

Joe Scarborough Suspended By MSNBC For Two Days Over Campaign Donations

Fans of Keith Olbermann who were upset that he was suspended by MSNBC President Phil Griffin over campaign donations often pointed to similar donations made by Joe Scarborough as an example of unfair treatment. Well it appears that the treatment is now fair according to a Politico report that asserts that Scarborough has been suspended for two days for similar contributions.

Writing for Politico, Kenneth Vogel Reports:

MSNBC said Friday that it is suspending “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough for two days after he acknowledged giving eight previously unknown $500 contributions to friends and family members running for state and local offices during his tenure at the network, a violation of parent NBC’s ban on political contributions by employees without specific permission from the network president. “I recognize that I have a responsibility to honor the guidelines and conditions of my employment, and I regret that I failed to do so in this matter,” Scarborough said in a statement. “I apologize to MSNBC and to anyone who has been negatively affected by my actions,” said, adding that after he was made aware of some of the contributions, he called MSNBC president Phil Griffin “and agreed with Phil’s immediate demand of a two-day suspension without pay.”

The suspension appears to be a direct result of reporting efforts by Politico, who had sought comment from MSNBC after Politico had found “evidence that Scarborough gave at least five separate previously unknown $500 contributions while serving as an MNBC host. Arianna Huffington stuck her foot in her mouth during Tuesday's "Morning Joe" on MSNBC, and ended up being totally humiliated by host Joe Scarborough and guests Rudy Giuliani and Mort Zuckerman.

As the subject of Florida's Senate race was broached, Huffington decided to attack the former Mayor of New York City rather than address the qualifications of Republican candidates Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio.

"Your judgment in people has not been stellar -- Bernard Kerik, anybody, so the fact that you're supporting Rubio now, I don't know exactly how seriously we should take it," irrelevantly spouted the liberal publisher.

Marvelously, some of the gentlemen on the panel didn't appreciate the cheap shot including Giuliani himself who finally said, "I come on here just to talk about Marco Rubio, you're attacking me on Bernie Kerik, you're attacking me on how I ran my presidential race. I imagine you're going to attack me on what I did in the Little League when I was a child"

Arianna Huffington tours the cable news circuit demonizing the Tea Party and anyone out there who dares to criticize Barry, but any visitor who speands just 5 minutes on her website knows that the real instigators of political vitriol are on the Left. They own it--just ask any non-partisan who paid attention to where the direction of anger was coming from during the Bush years. And as long as Huffington dares to venture away from the safehaven of MSNBC, any astute pundit will her out on her blantant hypocrisy.

Joe Scarborough Slams Keith Olbermann’s Rant Against ‘Homophobic, Racist’ Scott Brown

A political war of sorts has broken out inside MSNBC, with Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough criticizing prime-time talking head Keith Olbermann for his scathing criticism of Scott Brown, the Republican candidate in Tuesday's special Senate election in Massachusetts.

"Olbermann calls Brown a 'homophobic racist reactionary' who 'supports violence against women.' How reckless and how sad," Scarborough, a former Republican member of the House, Tweeted Monday evening.

In a "quick comment" section on his show, Countdown, Monday night, Olbermann referred to reports that Brown had speculated that President Obama was born out wedlock; his opposition to funding Massachusetts Red Cross workers who went to help in the 9/11 rescue efforts; his support of a Constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage; and his (disputed) approval of a supporter's urgings that someone "shove a curling iron up" the backside of his Democratic opponent, Martha Coakley.

"In short, in Scott Brown, we have an irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model teabagging supporter of violence against women and against politicians with whom he disagrees," Olbermann said. "In any other time in our history, this man would have been laughed off the stage as an unqualified and a disaster in the making by the most conservative of conservatives. Instead, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is close to sending this bad joke to the Senate of the United States."

Joe Scarborough Conservative Bashing Book Bashing Tour Flops

Over the past several weeks, this site has been tracking the attempt by MSNBC's Joe Scarborough to make money bashing his former friends in any and every available public venue. With a new book to peddle, could attacking onetime colleagues from his conservative days fuel sales? New data from the publishing world, as well as radio and TV, provide the answer.

To promote the release, the former GOP congressman turned radio and TV host appeared on left-leaning television shows such as The View and did interviews with the New York Times and Newsweek. Each time, he was quick to bash Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, and other key conservative figures.

In recent years, Scarborough has found that turning against fellow Republicans could be good for the pocketbook, securing him the morning gig at MSNBC and a syndicated talk show airing on WABC / New York

But in new data released late this week, Scarborough has struck out in every category: TV, radio and publishing. His widely-touted The Last Best Hope: Restoring Conservatism and America's Promise has bombed, selling just 6432 copies since its 9 June release, according to new Bookscan figures. At Amazon, it has already dropped out of the top 100, currently ranked 166.

By contrast, conservative author Mark Levin remained in first place after three full months, according to Bookscan, selling another 35,595 units to push closer to a possible one million sales mark in the weeks and months to come.

Note to "disgruntled" conservatives or GOP members unhappy with the GOP while placing all the blame on Rush, Newt, Karl Rove and the rest of the Far-Right: quit it. While Rush and Newt say dumb things at times and go across the line of class way too often, people with short memories seem to forget that just 4 years ago, it was the GOP that ran the Presidency and Congress while the Left that was scurrying around worried to death about their future. Then too, there are extremists on both sides of the aisle who say and do dumb things without looking at the big picture, just ask Obama. Yet, history has shown us that these things on in cycles--one party dominates for a time, doesn't live up to its lofty expectations, so people run to the other party. Bashing and in-fighting doesn't work, sticking to principles and offering solutions do.

Joe Scarborough Calls Jon Stewart A "Very, Very, Angry Guy"

I'm not a big fan of Scarborough, but I'm glad that someone finally had the balls to call out Stewart's hatred of conservatives fronting as "comedy".
