John Edwards Found Not Guilty On 1 Count, Judge Declares Mistrial On 5 Others

After nine days of deliberation, the jury (which was seated on April 23) reached a verdict in the John Edwards trial, finding him not guilty on count 3, which pertained to illegal campaign contributions in 2008. With the jury deadlocked, the judge declared a mistrial on the 5 other counts.


Edwards faced six felony counts — including four counts of collecting illegal campaign contributions, one of conspiracy and one related to filing false records. A two-year investigation looked into whether Edwards used political donations to cover up his affair and illegitimate child.


The charges carry a sentence of up to 30 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine, though legal experts had said it’s unlikely that Edwards, if convicted, would face those full penalties. Among its arguments, the defense team said the money was a personal gift from friends.

Talk about a fall from grace, any liberal who ever supported this con artist should be hanging their head in total shame now:

Former Democratic vice presidential nominee and two-time presidential candidate John Edwards pleaded not guilty Friday to conspiracy and campaign law violations, acknowledging that he had "done wrong," but denying that he broke the law.


His plea came hours after a federal grand jury indicted him on six counts, including conspiracy, issuing false statements and violating campaign contribution laws.


"There's no question that I've done wrong," Edwards told reporters outside federal court in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. "But I did not break the law and I never, ever thought I was breaking the law."


He was released on his own recognizance, but was ordered to surrender his passport and remain within the lower 48 states.


If convicted on all counts, Edwards would face up to 30 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1.5 million.

Elizabeth Edwards Left Husband John Out Of Her Will

A week before her death, Elizabeth Edwards filed a will.


She lists her worldly possessions – "furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewelry, china, silverware and personal effects and any automobiles" – and says it'll all be divided among her three children.


Absent in the document dated Dec. 1 was any mention of her estranged husband John Edwards, 57, although he is still living in their home.


John admitted he had an affair in 2006 while Elizabeth's breast cancer was in remission and that he had fathered a child.


Elizabeth, who lost her cancer battle at age 61 on Dec. 7, posted a Facebook note to her followers the day before she died.


"I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces – my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope," she wrote. "These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that."

She also shares how her cancer has gotten worse, with tumors in her legs, spine and skull: "It's less frightening than you think; it can't migrate to your brain," she says.

I'm sorry but until Elizabeth admits to how she played a part in deceiving voters and enabling this whole scandal, she's still lost my respect.

National Enquirer Could Win Pulitzer For Reporting On John Edwards Affair

On Monday afternoon, print journalism's highest honors will be announced, and among the candidates for investigative and national news reporting prizes is that bastion of supermarket check-out lanes, home of Elvis and Roseanne, The National Enquirer. It's being considered for its work breaking the John Edwards sex scandal, a story it followed when much of the so-called "mainstream media" was looking the other way.

The Pulitzer committee originally questioned the Enquirer's submission because of a dispute over whether it was a "newspaper" or "magazine" -- magazines can't enter. With the Enquirer -- whose paid circulation is just under 800,000 as of the end of 2009 -- now in the running, the paper's executive editor, Barry Levine, said winning would be an honor.

"It helps our credibility around the world," says Levine.

Wow. An Enquirer win would not only give the notorious gossip rag some credibility, but it would serve as a huge sleight to a liberal media that conspired to look the other way despite rumors circulating that a then-Presidential candidate was cheating on his cancer-stricken wife. The lamestream print media wonders why they're rapidly going out of business? Look no further than readers no longer buying their left-leaning, partisan spin on news and current events (the same reason why television FOX remains way ahead of the rest of the pack). Every noteworthy newspaper and newsmagazine around the country had a responsibility to be on top of the word going around that John Edwards was a liar, con artist and a cheater, but instead theliberal elites in the press smugly dismissed the allegations and the Enquirer took advantage. In her bombshell interview with GQ, Hunter says:

* Her first words to him were "You're so hot" -- and they had sex later that night in his hotel room.

* The then-presidential candidate hoped Hunter, pregnant with his child, would get an abortion.

Contrary to various accounts of their affair, Hunter, 45, told the magazine she met the former North Carolina senator on the corner of 61st Street and Park Avenue in New York City in February 2006, and did not pick him up at a bar.

It's just funny how much today's liberals want nothing to do with this guy. He was after all, once their prince, the heir to the throne. Sad how they've abandoned him.

John Edwards Could Be Headed To Prison

The National Enquirer reports that former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards will soon be indicted by a federal grand jury. Edwards has been mired in scandal since his affair with campaign staffer Rielle Hunter became public in 2008.

According to the Enquirer, the grand jury's charges stem from that relationship. At issue, according to the Enquirer, is whether there were "possible campaign violations related to paying his mistress Rielle Hunter," who produced some short videos for the Edwards campaign in 2008.

More recently, Hunter has been fighting in court with Andrew Young, a former Edwards aide, over a videotape purportedly showing her and Edwards in a sexual encounter. That video has been turned over to the court and placed under seal.

The National Enquirer, a tabloid, is credited with breaking the news that Edwards had a child with Hunter. Edwards only admitted to being the child's father last month.

While John Edwards was out and about campaigning for President, the liberal media failed to investigate widespread rumors that he was cheating on his cancer-stricken wife Elizabeth. Now, two years later, Edwards could be looking at some time in the pokey while his enablers get off scot-free. Irony.

While John Edwards pooh-poohed the initial reports coming from the tabloid about his affair and his "love child," it was later revealed that the Enquirer was correct. The Enquirer crowed over the issue, and must be taken more seriously in these sorts of allegations, now.

The couple has been married for 32 years, and the attack was apparently the "final straw." Edwards also only recently admitted paternity of 2-year-old daughter Frances by mistress Rielle Hunter.

Despite the allegations and accusations over cheating and paternity, Elizabeth Edwards stood by John during his presidential runs. This even included a recurrence of her cancer, for which she is still undergoing treatment.

Elizabeth Edwards should've left her bastard of a husband the minute she found he was cheating on her. But she didn't and instead chose to participate in a bold-face lie, scamming voters on the campaign trail to the tune of millions while pretending that her lying, cheat of a husband was a stand-up guy. Some idiots may still want to feel sorry for Elizabeth, but my guess is that the millions that John Edwards raked in from his trial lawyer days (as well as other assorted scams) will keep Elizabeth comfortable.

John Edwards Finally Admits To Fathering Child While Cheating On Cancer-Stricken Wife

Former Senator John Edwards admitted on Thursday that he fathered a daughter with a campaign videographer with whom he had an extramarital affair during his presidential campaign.

“I am Quinn’s father,” Mr. Edwards said bluntly in a statement released to the news media, confirming what his wife, Elizabeth, his children, close friends, former staff members and the general public already knew or suspected.

“I have been able to spend time with her during the past year and trust that future efforts to show her the love and affection she deserves can be done privately and in peace,” he continued. “It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when she understands, she will forgive me.”

The child, Frances Quinn Hunter, will turn 2 in February.

The statement capped a lengthy period of denials and disclosures from Mr. Edwards about his relationship with the videographer, Rielle Hunter, who was hired to produce Internet videos for his 2008 presidential campaign.

What a disgrace. Edwards even allowed a former campaign staffer to try and take the fall for him. Then too, Elizabeth Edwards knew all along what a scumbag she was married too and went right along as he continued to lie to the American public while he trying to become President. That makes her just as bad. We'll all be better off if the entire Edwards camp just goes away for good now.

"Saturday Night Live" opened yesterday with a skit mocking both the sexual indiscretions of politicians and how little attention is given them by the media. John Edwards, John Ensign, and Mark Sanford gathered together to protest that their affairs barely registered despite the fact that one of them engaged in bribery, one of them abandoned his state in a time of need, and one of them had a love child with a campaign worker.

These stories, while reported by major news outlets, disappeared quickly and without much follow-up. All of these men still have their jobs. Tiger Woods on the other hand, a man with no public responsibilities, has been the subject of intense media scrutiny over several weeks and has indefinitely resigned from golf.

Leave it to the comedians to put things in the proper perspective.

Former presidential candidate John Edwards will admit he is the father of his former campaign aide's 18-month-old baby, a TV news station in North Carolina reports.

WRAL says sources told the station Edwards' public admission could come before the end of the ongoing criminal investigation into whether his campaign illegally paid the woman, campaign videographer Rielle Hunter, to keep quiet about their affair.

The news comes a day after the National Enquirer reported that a secret DNA test proved Edwards' paternity.

The Enquirer, which last year broke the story of Edwards' affair with Hunter, said the test was taken after Hunter tried to get financial help from Edwards for her 18-month-old daughter, Frances.

Hunter apparently agreed to testify to a federal grand jury investigating whether Edwards broke campaign finance law by paying "hush" money to Hunter and another aide who claimed paternity of the child. Hunter was spotted last week in Raleigh, N.C., entering a federal courthouse, where she spent nine hours.

Edwards adamantly denied during a confessional interview with ABC News last summer that he had fathered a child with Hunter, and he said he welcomed a paternity test. His wife, Elizabeth, has said while promoting her book that she doesn't know if her husband is the father.

To think for years this man conned America into thinking that he was about ethics, virtue and family. To think this man used to get on his high horse and berate Republicans on the daily while campaigning to be President of the United States. To think this man cheated on his cancer-stricken wife and lied about it on national TV. To think the liberal media had their collective head so far up John Edwards ass that took a tabloid to report the truth about his affair. You want proof of the con job that liberals are putting on Americans, just look up John Edwards.

And once again I thank former President Bush for defeating the scum of a ticket that was Kerry-Edwards.

John Edwards Campaign Funds Being Probed By Feds

Two-time Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is acknowledging a federal inquiry into his campaign funds.

Edwards said in a statement obtained by The Associated Press on Sunday that he is confident no campaign funds were used improperly. He says he has made people and information available to resolve the issue in a timely manner.

The News & Observer of Raleigh was first to report that Edwards acknowledged the investigation.

A range of nonprofit and political groups that have been linked to Edwards have been under public scrutiny, including payments his political action committee made to a woman with whom he had an affair. Edwards acknowledged the affair in August.

U.S. Attorney George Holding has said he won't confirm or deny whether an investigation is ongoing.

Well it's about time. Edwards' campaign funds have been suspect for years now, ever since his relations with the Saudis became public, ever since it was found that he used them to pay for trysts with his mistress Rielle Hunter. John Edwards has conned Americans for way too long now, the guy belongs in prison.

Elizabeth Edwards plans a new book about facing adversity, recapping an often-tumultuous life that most recently included her husband's public disclosure of an affair, her publisher said Tuesday.

The book entitled "Resilience" is to be published on May 12. It comes less than a year after Edwards' husband John publicly acknowledged having an affair with a video producer in the months before he began his second campaign for president.

David Drake, the publicity director at Broadway Books, declined to discuss in detail the contents of the book but said it would serve as a sort of sequel to her previous memoir, "Saving Graces," that was first published in 2006 and updated in 2007.

Drake would not say whether Edwards discusses the affair in her new book.

"We're aware of some of the events that have taken place in her life since then," he said. "She has always been a kind of candid and honest writer, and people can expect that of her in her new book."

Edwards' initial memoir mostly focused on how she coped with the 1996 death of the couple's son Wade and her ongoing battle with breast cancer.

Since the affair announcement in August, Edwards has continued to advocate for health care reform by visiting Congress and making policy speeches. She has yet to discuss the affair in detail and has asked for privacy on the subject.

Surely, Elizabeth's saving "her feelings" on the affair for the book, you can be sure of it because this woman shouldn't be trusted. I mean, Elizabeth Edwards is the same woman who smiled, stood by and said nothing while her husband (who just happened to be running for Democrat primary winner) played "Family Guy," knowing full well that he was having an affair and lying to the American people about it, that is until the National Enquirer caught him out there. John Edwards misled voters as well as financial supporters and Elizabeth Edwards is just as culpable--another stand-by-your-man opportunist in the same vein as Hillary Clinton.

Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday admitted to an extramarital affair while his wife was battling cancer. He denied fathering the woman's daughter. Edwards told ABC News that he lied repeatedly about the affair with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter but said that he didn't love her.

He said he has not taken a paternity test but knows he isn't the father because of the timing of the affair and the birth.

ABC said a former Edwards campaign staffer claims he is the father, not Edwards.

Hunter's daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter, was born on Feb. 27, 2008, and no father's name is given on the birth certificate filed in California.

Three weeks ago, the National Enquirer said its reporters caught Edwards visiting Hunter at a California hotel. In the interview, scheduled to air on ABC News' "Nightline," Edwards said the tabloid was correct when it reported on his meeting with Hunter at the Beverly Hills Hotel last month.

What a lying prick. Over and over this former candidate for President of the United States lied the American public about cheating on his dying wife and it took a rag like the National Enquirer to nail him dead to rights. Why? Because half of the liberal press didn't want to have anything to do with the story of a prominent Democrat (and potential Vice-President) carrying on in such a despicable manner, despite all the rumors to the contrary. Now Edwards admits to having an affair, but not fathering his mistresses' baby. Well you'd have to be idiot to believe anything he say to say now. Then too, if the affair was over why did the Enquirer bust him visiting his allegedly former paramour in the middle of the night at her hotel a few weeks ago? Now the question is will the NYTimes, which had no problem putting John McCain on Page 1 for an alleged affair with a former lobbyist, cover Edwards admitted affair with the same vigor and diligence? I highly doubt it, after all, when it comes to fair and balanced reporting on the issues, the Times lost sight of that a long time ago.
