Pointed assertions from Vice President Joe Biden this week have reignited discussion of whether he distracts from his party's message or reinforces it, a question that has arisen periodically since President Barack Obama chose him as his running mate four years ago.

Mr. Biden drew sharp criticism from Republicans after telling a Virginia audience, which included a large number of African-Americans, that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney wants to "put you all back in chains" by rolling back new Wall Street regulations.

Mr. Romney, who has called for repealing the Dodd-Frank financial-regulation law, said Wednesday the metaphor was "divisive'' and that Mr. Biden's remarks diminished the White House. "Comments of this nature sink the White House just a little lower," Mr. Romney told CBS.

Mr. Obama defended the sentiment Mr. Biden intended to convey with his remark, that Wall Street overhauls should remain in place to protect consumers and the economy. But the president, in an interview on television show "Entertainment Tonight," also said, "His phrasing is a distraction for what is at stake" in the election.

The Obama campaign accused Mr. Romney of feigning outrage over a twist on a phrase that Mr. Biden regularly uses in his stump speech, in which he faults Republicans for wanting to "unshackle" Wall Street.

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said there would be no change in how the campaign uses Mr. Biden.

Mr. Biden, who has earned a reputation for rhetorical miscues and likes to speak off the cuff, also told some Virginia seniors this week he could "guarantee" Mr. Obama wouldn't make any changes to Social Security.

It is a promise that could be difficult for Mr. Obama to keep if he wins a second term, given that the president has been open to changes in Social Security as part of past deficit-reduction talks if the savings were used to shore up the retirement program. The two parties are expected to make another attempt at such a deal after the election.

Mr. Biden's aides said he was speaking to voters old enough that they wouldn't be affected by any Social Security changes the White House would support.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee, took the firmest stance after Mr. Biden's remarks, telling Fox News he should be replaced on the Democratic ticket by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Obama dismissed Ms. Palin's suggestion that he change his running mate.

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani told Sean Hannity on his talk show yesterday that, if he was still mayor, he would have told the "Occupy Wall Street" protesters, “You are not allowed to sleep on the streets.”


On his show, Hannity asked Giuliani how he would have dealt with the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement if he was still mayor of New York City - to which Giuliani replied, “Well I had a rule and I enforced it as best I could and pretty effectively. The rule was: You’re not allowed to sleep on the streets. Sorry, not allowed to sleep on the streets. Streets are not for sleeping.”


“Sleeping on the streets is a dysfunctional act. It harms the person, it harms society, it leads to unsanitary conditions that affect public health,” added Giuliani. “The first one who decided to sleep there should have been removed and then the second one, and the third one, and the fourth one and the fifth one.”


“They can protest during the daytime if they want to, but if you want to stay over in New York City overnight, you got to rent a room, and if you’re homeless we got plenty of shelters for you,” said Giuliani.

As the subject of Florida's Senate race was broached, Huffington decided to attack the former Mayor of New York City rather than address the qualifications of Republican candidates Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio.

"Your judgment in people has not been stellar -- Bernard Kerik, anybody, so the fact that you're supporting Rubio now, I don't know exactly how seriously we should take it," irrelevantly spouted the liberal publisher.

Marvelously, some of the gentlemen on the panel didn't appreciate the cheap shot including Giuliani himself who finally said, "I come on here just to talk about Marco Rubio, you're attacking me on Bernie Kerik, you're attacking me on how I ran my presidential race. I imagine you're going to attack me on what I did in the Little League when I was a child"

Word leaked today that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani will announced that he won’t challenge either incumbent Governor David Paterson or Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in the 2010 election. The former Mayor’s exit from two races in which he was never a formal candidate is good news for Governor Paterson, who has suffered in several opinion polls.

In more good news, Paterson’s job approval ratings have risen to a respectable 40%. (President Obama’s numbers hover around 49%-52%.) What does Giuliani’s exit mean for Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, long rumored to be preparing a run against Paterson? It was reported recently that Cuomo’s camp warned Giuliani about entering the Governor’s race, because, according to various sources, Cuomo was likely to win.

In doing so, they may have jettisoned their strongest argument in a primary challenge against Paterson: that the Attorney General should be the Democratic nominee because he’d have the best shot of beating the former Mayor.

Shocked to say the least. All along I thought the governor's position was Giuliani's for the taking next year. God knows we don't need another Cuomo.

Rudy Giuliani Throws Support Behind Michael Bloomberg For NYC Mayor

Former mayor Rudy Giuliani warned Sunday that crime rates could soar to 1990s levels and the city could again be a victim of terrorism if Mayor Bloomberg doesn't win reelection.

Giuliani's dire predictions came during a tag-team campaign swing - the first time Bloomberg has tapped the one-time GOP star for help on the stump this election season.

"This city could very easily be taken back in a very different direction," Giuliani told a crowd of ultra-Orthodox Jews at a breakfast sponsored by Brooklyn's Borough Park Jewish Community Council. "It could very easily be taken back to the way it was with the wrong political leadership. Politics is important. It's important to our safety. It's important to our security."

It's all about strategy folks. Giuliani wants that NY Governor's post next year. A Bloomberg win (which is highly likely considering the size of Mayor Mike's bank) come November and keeping his mug in the papers will certainly help Rudy reach his goal.

Rudy Giuliani Says He's Considering Run For New York Governor

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani tells CNN that he's thinking about running for governor of New York next year, but that's as far as he's going right now.

Asked by CNN's John Roberts on American Morning if he's seriously considering a gubernatorial bid, Giuliani said "I'm thinking about it but I don't know if I'm at the point of seriously considering it. It's a little too early."

Giuliani, who spent much of 2007 and the first month of 2008 running for the Republican presidential nomination, is often mentioned as a possible contender to take on incumbent Democratic Gov. David Paterson in next year's contest.

Recent polls of New York State voters indicate that if the election where held today, Giuliani would beat the unpopular Paterson. But surveys also suggest if New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo were the Democratic nominee, Cuomo would beat Giuliani in a hypothetical general election match up.

God, and I can't believe I'm saying this considering how much I despised the man when he was mayor of NYC, but I'd take Giuliani over Paterson any day of the week.

Polls Show Gov. David Paterson In Trouble

A new poll released Tuesday shows Gov. David Paterson slumping to the lowest job approval and favorability ratings since he took office almost a year ago.

The Siena College Research Institute also looked at potential 2010 election matchups and found the Democrat trailing Republican Rudy Giuliani — 51 percent to 36 percent — despite a 2-to-1 enrollment advantage for Democrats in New York. They were in a dead heat a month ago. The poll shows Democratic Attorney General Andrew Cuomo leading Paterson 51 to 38 percent in another possible contest. Neither Giuliani nor Cuomo have said they will challenge Paterson in 2010.

The grim news for Paterson comes as he most needs the power of persuasion and public support to deal with the state's fiscal crisis. He is under pressure from special interests that are mounting million-dollar ad campaigns to trash spending cuts in the austere budget he has proposed to the Legislature.

"The commercials against the governor's budget proposals are having an impact," said Steven Greenberg, spokesman for the Siena poll. "More than 80 percent of voters are concerned that the proposed budget cuts in health and education would adversely affect the quality of health care and education in New York."

I don't believe that Paterson is in as much trouble as the press makes it seem. Sure, he's done some dumb stuff (like bragging early on about extramarital affairs and his handling of the Caroline Kennedy-for-Senator episode was inept), but considering that he had to come in under the cloud of the disgrace that is Eliot Spitzer, deal with a state budget that's been a headache for eons and a struggling economy in general, unless he pulls a Spitzer and does something really stupid between now and then, I think he deserves to be the Dem choice for Governor come 2010...especially if Rudy Giuliani is the GOP pick.

Remember, this guy was once the GOP front-runner running on a platform that included being a "fiscal conservative":

In a campaign finance filing today, monitored by The Times' Dan Morain, Giuliani discloses that he raised a total of $64.94 million for his campaign and spent $56.95 million on the ill-fated candidacy that collapsed after his Florida loss without a single election victory at the end of January.

In fact, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas beat the New Yorker in a couple of places, winning more delegates with less money and, as we reported here this morning, still having more than $5 million cash in hand and not a single cent of debt as of Feb. 29.

For that nearly $57 million Giuliani won a single delegate in Nevada, actually one delegate since we don't know his/her marital status.

In today's filing with the Federal Election Commission, Giuliani discloses....that he still has $3.1 million in debt, including $151,000 owed to Giuliani Security, the security firm he founded, and $65,000 to Giuliani Partners, another of his enterprises.

What a con artist.

I said before that I would do everything in my power to make sure that Rudy Giuliani, a man I despise, would never be President of the United States and barring a miracle, that's officially about to happen. Thank goodness that common sense and principles prevailed over sheer stupidity. It is now my hope that this despicable man is smart enough to see the light and never again grace the political world after his embarrassing attempt to distant his liberal views from a party that holds onto most of what's left concerning moral fortitude in this country.

With fewer than 20 days until the Iowa caucuses, three men in the Republican Party stand to get their tickets punched out of the Hawkeye State.

While everything is still in flux, those likely winners will be Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson.

Notably missing out on Iowa’s political rocket fuel is national frontrunner Rudy Giuliani.

While most political insiders and pundits have known for months that Giuliani had no plans to compete in Iowa, the general American electorate probably does not. Known to not pay attention to the early political pontificating, the average voter may wonder where the former New York mayor is when the big news the next day is not about him.

Giuliani went into the campaign season with an unconventional strategy that quickly became all the buzz: Skip Iowa, be respectable in New Hampshire, then head to delegate-rich Florida. The strategy for his campaign was never about momentum; it was always about maximizing his delegate count.

An unconventional Republican primary candidate, Giuliani knew he would be shunned by the ultraconservative activists in early states. His personal Iowa is Super-Duper Tuesday, Feb. 5, which has the motherlode of delegates, who happen to be moderate Republicans. Sounds perfect, right?

Maybe. If he can hold on. But right now, the Giuliani story is that his gamble is quietly becoming the incredible shrinking campaign.

“From a historical perspective,” says Matt Lebo, a political science professor at State University of New York at Stony Brook, “his strategy is clearly a losing strategy.”

Rudy Giuliani Cavorted With Ex-Mistress Judi Nathan On NYC Taxpayers Dimes

Not only is Rudy Giuliani a liberal, a racist, an adulterer, a liar, a bad father, an exploiter of 9/11 and an abortion & gay rights supporter, but now he has some serious explaining to do to the people he reigned over for 8 long and brutal years:

In the fall of 2001, city cops chauffeured Rudy Giuliani's then-mistress, Judith Nathan, to her parents' Pennsylvania home 130 miles away on the taxpayers' dime.

Records show that city cops refueled at an ExxonMobil station down the road from Nathan's childhood home in Hazleton on Oct. 20, 2001, while Giuliani stayed behind in New York attending 9/11 funerals.

A similar receipt pops up at a different Hazleton gas station two months later, when Nathan apparently went home for a pre-Christmas visit with her parents.

The records show that - in addition to using City Hall funds to take Giuliani and Nathan to 11 secret trysts in the Hamptons, as has been previously reported - taxpayers were paying to ferry Nathan on long-distance trips without Giuliani, now a Republican contender for President.

Aides to the presidential hopeful insisted Friday that all the expenses were legitimate - although Mayor Bloomberg's gal pal, Diana Taylor, happily goes without police protection.

"Only Giuliani Can Beat Hillary" Creed Proving False

The liberal media, Rudy himself and many a so-called 'expert" conservative pundit have all done a great job in getting many GOP voter to toss all their convictions aside and support Giuliani's bid for the nomination despite the fact that the ex-mayor of New York is nothing but a liberal on sheep's clothing. Yet, according to a new Zogby Poll (h/t Conservative Belle), the hysteria built around Only-Rudy-Can-Beat-Hillary is turning out to be nothing more than just that . . . hype.

Democrat Hillary Clinton would lose to all major Republican White House candidates, according to a hypothetical election matchup poll Monday, reversing her months of dominance over potential 2008 challengers.

The Zogby International poll was the latest sign that withering attacks on the former first lady were chipping away at her opinion poll leads just 38 days before the Iowa caucuses, the first party nominating contests.

In the new survey, Clinton trailed Senator John McCain 42 percent to 38 percent, former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani by 43 percent to 40 percent and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney by 43 percent to 40 percent.

She also lagged behind former Arkansas Republican governor Mike Huckabee by 44 to 39 percent, and former Senator Fred Thompson by 44 to 40 percent in hypothetical general election matchups.

Meanwhile Hillary and Barack Obama are now tied in Iowa. Seems to me that all the sludge in Hillary's past is finally catching up to her.

Mitt Romney Passes Giuliani In New Hampshire

From New Hampshire there's good news for Mitt Romney:

The WMUR-CNN poll of likely Republican voters conducted by the University of New Hampshire shows Romney with 33 percent support, up from 25 percent in the same poll in September. Giuliani has declined, slipping to 16 percent compared to 24 percent in September.

Those polled also described Romney as the most likely to win the nomination, with 39 percent choosing him and 26 percent saying Giuliani could go the distance.

Just 8 percent said John McCain has what it takes to win the nomination, but 18 percent of voters said they would vote for him, the same as in September. Although his support has remained steady, McCain has moved into second place because of Giuliani's slide.

Giuliani is now third choice among Republicans, behind both Romney and McCain, in that state. The poll results are here. Makes you wonder if Rudy's continued arrogance/exploitation of 9/11 and the recent indictment of Bernard Kerik are taking an effect on voters. God, I sure hope so.

Giuliani & Kerik? What About Hillary Clinton and Norman Hsu?

Newsbusters spills the beans on more of that utter hypocrisy coming from your liberal press:

The CBS Evening News, which has aired only one full story on the scandal surrounding Hillary Clinton's fugitive donor Norman Hsu, on Friday night ran its second full story on the impact on Rudy Giuliani of Bernard Kerik's indictments as Byron Pitts told Kerik that “people” say you're “a poster child as to why Giuliani shouldn't be President.” Back on August 31, in the newscast's only full story on Hsu, fill-in anchor Harry Smith didn't even mention Hillary Clinton's name in his introduction, but on Friday Katie Couric put Giuliani front and center: “Kerik isn't the only one who could face trouble. It's also bad news for his friend and mentor, Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani.”

In the Hsu story, CBS reporter Sandra Hughes didn't warn about any negative impact on the Hillary Clinton campaign or speculate about what Hillary Clinton knew about Hsu's criminal past or suspect bundling. But in the Giuliani piece, Pitts predicted: “Kerik's legal problems could mean political problems for Giuliani and the inevitable questions of the presidential candidate: What did he know and when did he know it?” In an exchange with Kerik, Pitts proposed: “There are people who say that you, forgive me, are a poster child as to why Giuliani shouldn't be President, because of your own troubles.”

As I've made it clear here several time, I can't stand Rudy Giuliani and everything he stands for. I pray every day that he'll never be President. But what's fair is fair and liberals all across the map are big-time hypocrites for making a big deal out of Giuliani's relationship with Bernard Kerik while saying little to nothing about Hillary (and Bill) Clinton's relationship with Norman Hsu. Funny too because there's so much out there to attack about Rudy (race relations, exploiting his role in 9/11, adultery, etc.), I just don't see what Bernard Kerik (who most people outside of NYC barely know) did in his spare time has to do with Rudy's "character". Rudy doesn't dump his friends the minute they go through some bad times, that's called being loyal, an important characteristic of someone you call a "friend". I know that quite a few liberals think that Rudy might be Hillary's strongest foe, but Giuliani's relationship with Bernard Kerik is not going to have an effect on the average American voter.
