Bob Schieffer To David Axelrod On Downgrade: ‘Are You Saying The President Bears No Responsibility?’

Shocking:

Don’t count on President Obama’s campaign advisor David Axelrod being eager to return to Face the Nation anytime soon. First Bob Schieffer persistently wondered why Obama should be re-elected when the economic situation is “worse” today than it was when Obama first took office. And later in the same interview, Schieffer refuses to let Axelrod blame Republicans for being the sole cause of the S&P downgrade.


After Axelrod attempted to argue that it was Republican brinkmanship and a refusal to compromise that resulted in the S&P decision, Schieffer asked in a state of a shock, “are you saying that the President bears no responsibility for this, that this was all the fault of the other side?” Axelrod, getting visibly frustrated replied:


“Listen Bob what I’m saying is review the history of what happened here . . . this is essentially a Tea Party downgrade. The Tea Party brought us to the brink of a default.”


Yet Schieffer was not impressed with Axelrod’s attempt to label it a “Tea Party Downgrade” and to switch topics to how all the potential Republican presidential candidates failed to endorse any type of debt compromise. Instead Schieffer corrected Axelrod, reminding him that actually Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman did publicly support a compromise.

Bob Schieffer Scolds Pelosi For Congress Doing ‘Basically Nothing’ On Economy

House Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sat down with Bob Schieffer this morning and her non-answers on Congressional action to tackle the problems with the nation’s economy left Schieffer in a sour mood. As Pelosi suggested President Obama has done everything to save this economy and now the focus is on jobs, Schieffer wondered “the President has been there two and a half years, I mean, why hasn’t he done that yet, what’s happened?”


Pelosi tried to stress Obama’s economic achievements:


“He pulled us from the brink of the financial crisis, from an economic crisis, and now we have to dig out of a deep debt, and we have to also make it clear that we’re not getting into this situation again.”


Yet Schieffer wasn’t impressed, particularly with how little he saw from Congress, concluding “Congress has been in session since January and has done basically nothing.” Pelosi responded, “well you can talk to Mr. Boehner about that.” Schieffer didn’t seem to like Pelosi’s insistence on blaming Republicans without offering any ideas to get something done “now.” Pelosi finally relented somewhat with her defense:


“We’re not in the majority in the House. And so you’re saying to me why haven’t we brought something to the floor to create jobs? I think that’s a better question asked to the Republicans because they control the agenda.”


Pelosi seemed somewhat surprised by Schieffer’s agitation, yet finger-pointing without any attempt at a compromise or suggesting a solution, admirably doesn’t get far with Schieffer these days.

Anytime liberals go back to blaming the GOP for everything, just remember that they just had two years of running everything. And yet, despite the mess this country is on, while they were in charge their single goal was getting ObamaCare passed. Thankfully, even some in the lamestream press are growing tired of their BS.

Bob Schieffer: I Didn't Ask Eric Holder About New Black Panther Party Drama Because I Didn't Know About It

CBS's "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer made an appearance on another Sunday show today: CNN's "Reliable Sources." At issue, Schieffer's interview with AG Eric Holder last Sunday, which was actually pre-recorded four days earlier, on July 7, at the annual Aspen Ideas Festival.

What Schieffer didn't ask was fodder on Fox News Channel last week, and that was Kurtz's first question today:

KURTZ: Let's start with the obvious question. Why did you not ask Eric Holder in that interview about this former Justice official's allegation that a case against the New Black Panther Party was dropped because of racial politics?

SCHIEFFER: Well, it's certainly a question that is a legitimate question to ask. And basically what happened was this all really became a story when the whistleblower came out and testified that he'd had to leave the Justice Department and so on. And, frankly, had I known about that, I would have asked the question.

I was on vacation that week. This happened -- apparently, it got very little publicity. And, you know, I just didn't know about it.

And later, what Schieffer finds "absurd" about some of the Fox News coverage.

KURTZ: One last point on this Black Panther case. Fox's Bill O'Reilly making the point that none of the network newscasts have covered this story. He says: The network newscasts are not being honest about news because their agenda is to protect President Obama. Your thoughts?

SCHIEFFER: Well, I think the reason that there hasn't been much coverage on it is there is a question about how significant this really is. I think it is -- you know, the coverage or lack of coverage has to do with editors' news judgment. It doesn't have anything to do with protecting President Obama. And I mean, I think, frankly, that's absurd on the face of it.
