These are the kind of on-point rebuttals the conservative leadership needs in responding to the Sarah Palin fearmongering by the Left. Indeed, by going after Sarah Plain's children, the lunatic wing has shown once again that it has no shame. But we don't need to go there. We don't need to be like them because we aren't them. Instead, we need to focus on Obama's startling lack of experience, the fact that he will raise taxes, that Obama has no experience on foreign policy, that he will elect liberal judges to prominent positions on the courts, the liberals love for big government and their extreme distaste for Christianity and family values. That's why I thought Fred Thompson gave a great speech tonight, while Joe Lieberman and the president were only so-so. Perhaps too, after seeing him giving MSNBC an ass-whupping, maybe we need more of Newt Gingrich.

Fred Thompson Says He Won't Consider VP Spot

Hey, I remember this guy:

Former Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said he would turn down an offer to run for vice president on John McCain’s ticket.

“That’s not in the cards,” the former senator said during on interview on Fox’s “Hannity and Colmes” on Thursday.

“That’s not what I want. And I don’t think that call [from McCain] would ever happen. I think John needs somebody else.”

Thompson also said: “The presidency is the only job in town that’s worth going through what you got to go through to get it, including the vice presidency…

Probably not enough vacation time in that VP job for Fred either.

Fred Thompson Gaining In South Carolina

Don't count the most reliable and consistent conservative in this race out just yet:

As the first Southern state prepares to vote, Thompson has conceded that a disappointing finish in Saturday's GOP primary would probably sink his chances. Other candidates have much to gain or lose here, but none more than the man whose candidacy has been one of the campaign's biggest puzzles.

Until now, Thompson has been overshadowed by his rivals. He ran third in Iowa, the state that vaulted former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee to the race's front ranks. He got 1 percent of the vote in New Hampshire, where Sen. John McCain of Arizona came back to life. He attracted 4 percent in Michigan on Tuesday, when former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney resuscitated his candidacy with a victory.

That is hardly the script written for the television and movie actor months ago as he began a high-profile effort to test enthusiasm for his campaign.

Now he is down to one state where he hopes that his combination of Southern roots and conservative views will lead to the breakthrough that has so far escaped him. He isn't reluctant to remind audiences here that he's kin. As he said at a West Columbia restaurant Thursday morning, "It's good to be back in home territory where they know how to cook green beans -- and they're not crunchy."

His rivals doubt his chances, but Thompson believes something is happening in the Palmetto State. Asked during a radio interview at the restaurant Thursday whether his efforts here represent a "too little, too late" strategy, he offered an upbeat assessment.

"We're clearly moving in the right direction," he said. "We had some ground to make up, but from what I can tell, we're moving up."

Mitt Romney Wins Wyoming?

Well, that's what CNN is reporting:

(CNN) — CNN projects that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will win the Wyoming Republican Caucuses.

With 58 percent of the caucuses reporting, Romney has won 6 of Wyoming's 12 delegates, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson has won 1 delegate and California Rep. Duncan Hunter has won 1 delegate.

Coming two days after the Iowa caucuses and three days before the New Hampshire primary, the early date of the Wyoming GOP county conventions was intended to draw candidates' attention to the state, but has had only modest results.

If this holds up, it'd certainly be good news for the Romney camp and put a minor dent in whatever push Mike Huckabee got from his victory in Iowa. One thing I'm quickly learning about this year's American voter: the so-called "experts" in the media know little about them.

If it's really true that Thompson's going to finally announce his bid for presidency this week, then count me in as on official supporter. After all, Thompson would be the only true conservative in the race, he's not afraid to call it like he sees it and most importantly, despite what your liberal press would have you believe, he can beat Hillary.

And really, if the best shots that liberals can take at Thompson are that he's "lazy" or that he's an actor (what, Slick Willie wasn't?) or that he has a "trophy wife" (despite the fact that Mrs. Thompson's resume speaks much differently), then you just know that Thompson has as good a chance to be our next President as anybody else.

Former Senator Fred Thompson, who has more political experience than Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama combined, is being taken to task by liberals for having the gall to even think about running for President in '08:

He is the former senator from Tennessee who retired from politics in 2002 to resume a career as a movie and TV actor that was more lucrative and, apparently, less boring. Now, his restless spirit is urging him back into politics. And with no more behind him than the popularity of his role on "Law & Order" and a hint to Fox News' Chris Wallace that he might be interested in the White House, this Thompson has vaulted into third place in the Republican polls.

He has yet to announce his candidacy, raise his first dollar or build the semblance of an organization, but he has lapped Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, who has been running for months and who leads all other Republicans in fundraising.

Here's something to consider: Giuliani, McCain and Romney are all facing scorn from many circles within the conservative think-tank for not being "true" conservatives. With that said Fred Thompson's name is getting more play as a capable candidate for the GOP nomination for President (esp. in light of his recent diss of "pirate" Ahmadinejad). Any wonder why liberals are gearing up to smear Thompson?
