Chris Coons dares Sarah Palin To Come To Delaware And Campaign For Christine O'Donnell

Who does Delaware Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Chris Coons want campaigning in Delaware? Sarah Palin, of course.


Facing attention-grabbing Republican candidate Christine O’Donnell, the Coons campaign sent an e-mail to supporters Tuesday wondering aloud why the matriarch of the “Mama Grizzlies” hadn’t yet fulfilled a promise to campaign for the struggling candidate.


“The Delaware Republican Party turned its back on O’Donnell. Then the National Republican Senatorial Committee turned off their support,” read the letter. “Sarah Palin’s absence in Delaware is a sign that she is set to do the same?”


Far from a rhetorical question, the Coons campaign seems eager to actually have the former vice presidential candidate make an appearance for O’Donnell.


“I think Sarah Palin coming in would be great,” said Coons’ Communications Director Daniel McElhatton. “Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, [and] Christine O’Donnell have all the same types of ideology and policy positions … So if Sarah Palin wants to come in and articulate those positions to Delawareans, all the better.”

Who was it? Yeah, the great Charles Krauthammer who declared that you support the best "electable" candidate, not some schmuck with little to no chance to win. Wise counsel for far-right yahoos like Michelle Malkin, Jim Demint and Sarah Palin who ignored all sense of logic in endorsing Christine O'Donnell after her upset win over moderate Mike Castle.

Chris Coons Alleged To Have Fired Staffers For Political Views

A third lawsuit alleges that New Castle County Executive Chris Coons retaliated against county employees because of their political views.


Dennis Parkstone filed the latest lawsuit last month. He claims he was fired after 35 years for a minor violation because he voiced support for Coon's rival in 2004, Sherry Freebery. However, county spokeswoman Christy Gleason says Parkstone was fired because he sent inappropriate and explicit e-mails on the county's e-mail servers.


A lawsuit filed by county police Corporal Trinidad Navarro is scheduled to go to trial next month. Navarro alleges he was passed over for a promotion because he supported a police chief appointed by the previous county executive.


And two years ago, Freebery's brother alleged in lawsuit that he was improperly fired because he supported his sister. He was the general manager of Special Services for the county.

Chris Coons Led New Castle County To Brink Of Bankruptcy

My guess is that independent voters in Delaware will be more worried about this than whether or not a candidate dabbled in witchcraft over a decade ago:

While the Associated Press reports that Democrat U.S. Senate hopeful Chris Coons (D-DE) claims he “successfully restored his county to financial health and is ready to do the same for the federal government,” an examination of Coons’ record as New Castle County Executive shows otherwise.


In fact, by Coon’s own standard, he led the county from being “fundamentally sound” to the verge of bankruptcy in just four years, lamenting that the county was “18 months from being out of money” and “unable to operate.”


As New Castle County’s spending skyrocketed by 10 percent under Coons’ leadership, he shifted the burden for his irresponsibility to taxpayers with three massive property tax hikes of 5 percent, 17.5 percent and 25 percent respectively. In 2008, Fitch Ratings downgraded the county’s “rating outlook” from stable to negative because the county’s cash balances were decreasing under Coons’ reckless stewardship.


“Trailing by double-digits less than 60 days before the election, Chris Coons is desperately attempting to rewrite history and distract voters from his record of out-of-control spending and massive tax hikes as he drove New Castle County to the brink of bankruptcy,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond. “Delaware voters deserve more than the same reckless, failed economic agenda that Coons has promised to rubberstamp in Washington, and that’s why we’re confident they will elect a fiscally responsible Republican leader to the U.S. Senate this November.”
