Megyn Kelly Interviews Mike Huckabee: "I Wasn't Disparaging Women I Was Trashing Phony War on Women"

Fox News host Mike Huckabee sat down with colleague Megyn Kelly on Friday to clear the air about his controversial comments on birth control, saying that he was saying nothing disparaging about women or access to birth control, and was simply going after what he called the canard of the “war on women” Democrats have been going on about for years.

Kelly grilled Huckabee a little, bringing up criticisms that he completely misrepresented the Democratic position that people need birth control for medical issues and so they can be responsible. Huckabee made it clear that he’s not opposed to giving women access to birth control, “it was about Democrats and this phony war on women that they have pretended Republicans have.”

Kelly brought up a number of health reasons why women need birth control, and told Huckabee people just don’t like the insinuation birth control means someone is “controlling” women’s bodies. Huckabee insisted he was not trying to put down women, because he believes they’re “equals to men,” and he took a shot at the reporters who “tried to reduce this entire issue to a tweet.”

Fox News Host Mike Huckabee moved Fox & Friends host Gretchen Carlson to tears on Monday in a discussion about God and religion in the wake of the mass murder in Connecticut on Friday. After saying that no one “should be surprised” by the attack because schools have become a place free of religion, Huckabee softened his tone. He said that Americans should no longer be ashamed of their belief in a higher power and turn to morality before the tragedy rather than after. 

“I’m not suggesting by any stretch that if we had prayer in schools regularly as we once did that this wouldn’t have happened,” said Huckabee. But, we’ve created an atmosphere in this country where they only time you want to invoke God’s name is after the tragedy.”

Huckabee praised President Barack Obama freely quoting scripture in the wake of the shooting deaths of 26 people, including 20 children. However, he said that it was still important to “create an atmosphere in this country where morality is not something we discuss only when we have no other place to run.”

Carlson was moved to tears. “Yesterday at our church, Governor, it was so moving,” she said. “It was so wonderful to know that if you are a person of faith, you have a lot of questions why, but you have something to hold onto.”

“I think It’s important that we quit apologizing for having a spiritual conversation,” Huckabee continued. “Quit being ashamed that we believe in God.”

Liberal Executive Bullies Chick-Fil-A Worker, Then Promptly Gets Fired For It

I'm guessing that the average fast-food, drive-thru worker makes barely more than minimum wage, doesn't love their job and has to put up with a lot of BS from customers too busy making sure their orders right (and the french fries warm) to give back a lil courtesy and respect for good service. But most do it anyway...well because thanks to the Obama administration the economy still sucks and they need to pay bills and/or put food on the table for their loved ones. Yet, who can prepare for a liberal douchebag rolling up to your window to berate you, all because the CEO of your company dared come out for traditional marriage a few days back? Mind you, Chick-fil-A doesn't discriminate against gay people in any way, shape of form. But for the intolerant Left freedom of speech is only allowed when you agree with everything they say. However, in this case thank goodness for not only the 1st Amendment, but karma as well:

Adam Smith, former CFO and treasurer of medical supplies manufacturer Vante, caused quite a stir today when he put up a video of himself bullying a Chick-fil-A drive-thru employee in Tucson on YouTube.

Smith berates the worker about her company in the video, which was initially titled ”Reduce $’s to Chick-Fil-A’s Hate Groups.” It has since been taken down (though others have uploaded it too).

"I don't know how you live with yourself and work here," he tells the employee at the window. "I don't understand it. This is a horrible corporation with horrible values. You deserve better." 

”I’m a nice guy, by the way … totally heterosexual," he continues. "Not a gay in me, I just can’t stand the hate.”

Chick-fil-A is currently in the middle of a controversy sparked by president and COO Dan Cathy's comments about gay marriage. He said that going against the Biblical definition of marriage is "inviting God's judgment on our nation."

Vante didn't approve of Smith's behavior, and he's no longer working there.

Mike Huckabee: Without Fox News, Americans ‘Will Assume That Obama Really Is Doing A Great Job’

Of course anyone with an inkling of how the liberal media works knows that Huckabee is right:

On his radio show Monday morning, former Arkansas Governor and current Fox News host Mike Huckabee suggested that without Fox News acting to balance out the “mainstream media,” most people “will assume that Obama really is just doing a great job.”

The former governor criticized Fox News’ competitors: “If people only watch the three big networks and BS-NBC, as I like to call them — MSNBC — if they watch BS-NBC and the three networks, then I think sometimes we may be kidding ourselves because a lot of people will assume that Obama really is just doing a great job and he just can’t get those crazy Republicans to help him out.”

Huckabee suggested his network and conservative talk radio act as counterweights to that positive coverage of the president: “I think a lot of people, if all they do is listen to conservative talk radio and maybe watch Fox News, they assume that all of America is getting what I would call at least a balanced approach to understanding that there are a lot of real problems going on that Obama could do better on.”

Liberal blogs take this as an unwitting admission that Fox News is the anti-Obama arm of the media, but Huckabee’s point was a bit more nuanced than that: he is right in that Fox News’ right-leaning commentary developed as a counterweight to a mainstream press that had long been seen as dominantly left-leaning. But the problem now, of course, is that cable news has developed into something of an “echo chamber,” where people tune in to the station that will confirm the viewer’s own biases. For generally favorable coverage of the administration, you can rely on one network, and for less favorable coverage, the other.

Romney's Perfect VP Pick: Mike Huckabee?

Having long been a fan of Huckabee I'm mad at myself for not thinking of this earlier. After all, as a former governor Huckabee has the executive experience, he's a great orator who'd easily beat Biden in a debate, he's likeable, definitely appealing to the Christian right and even the Tea Party crowd. Plus, I agree with Ann Coulter when she said that picking Marco Rubio would just be "pandering to Hispanics" and while Paul Ryan could certainly be a great VP, he's too young and lacks the experience. The Huckster, if he accepted the offer, could take Romney over the top:

It is very likely that Mitt Romney will become the GOP nominee and while he’s done it without courting evangelicals he’s going to need them in the fall to pull off a General Election victory. A standard turnout by evangelicals will not do the trick, not with a veteran, well-oiled Obama campaign machine ready to go. He’s going to need a game changing Vice-Presidential pick to energize evangelicals. Who might that be? Mike Huckabee would most definitely be the guy to seal the deal. He's probably the one guy who could truly get evangelicals off the couch who are skeptical of Romney.


Think about it for a moment. While the two were rivals in 2008, time heals all wounds right? Huckabee would help Romney immensely with the evangelical vote, the tea party vote and those white middle class voters. It could be a perfect fit not to mention that Huckabee has great interpersonal communication skills, something Romney lacks. He also would fit the criteria of someone who could step in and be president. Plus, the national media has vetted him already so that takes away any surprises and new narratives about someone new to the national stage. And while the VP is traditionally put in the role of attack dog, Huckabee has a knack for attacking yet not looking vicious when he does it. It’s an artful skill that he clearly learned in the Deep South where you might criticize someone but it goes down gently (“That dress just doesn’t look good on you, bless your heart!”). You can make the argument that Huckabee is making a lot of money and is enjoying his role as a media personality. All of that is true but if Romney came calling it would be pretty hard to turn down a VP offer.


Political observers always talk about how elections are won in the middle with Independent voters. Huckabee can appeal to these voters but his true value will be to energize evangelicals. You can bet without a shadow of a doubt that a Huckabee VP pick would do wonders for Romney with the evangelical base. The Romney campaign would be ignorant at best and politically suicidal at worst to think that evangelicals are just going to show up and vote for Romney in the fall because they have nowhere else to go. Many of them will do so but they might not bring a friend and certainly won’t organize with full abandon. That’s a problem for Romney in an election that will probably be very close. Huckabee could seal the deal like no other politician in the country.

Mike Huckabee: Rick Perry ‘Is Not Prepared For The Pressure Of The Presidential Stage’

Texas governor Rick Perry‘s performance at Thursday night’s Fox News/Google debate have many conservatives second-guessing their initial enthusiasm for the candidate– particularly his stances on immigration. It was not his ideas, but his delivery that concerned Mike Huckabee this morning on his regular Fox & Friends appearance, arguing that his apparent exhaustion proved Perry “is not prepared for the pressure of the presidential stage.”


To Huckabee, Perry “looked dumbfounded” at the immigration question, which was particularly faulty given that it was a question Perry should have seen coming. The delivery and preparation, as well as the general exhaustion, led Huckabee to argue that Perry “is not prepared for the pressure of the presidential stage,” something “not atypical in a presidential election.” But beyond the exhaustion and the fact that he defied the Republican base, to Huckabee it was the argument he used to get to them that hurt him the most.


“He could’ve answered that in a way that would’ve diffused it,” he noted. Huckabee didn’t go on the attack on the issue itself, however, but explained that it was the answer that dismayed him. Instead of going for the “you don’t have a heart line,” Huckabee recommended, he could have pointed out that many illegal immigrants “pay taxes every time they buy something,” and that “we’re not talking about people who just showed up to go to college,” but children already educated in the Texas school system. With all that said, Huckabee concluded by arguing that whether or not Perry succeeded in rehabilitating himself from this attack, the idea that the Republican nomination is a “two-man race” is one that he “highly resented,” not the least due to the fact that he himself had beaten Mitt Romney at the 2008 Iowa caucus and experienced the resistance to a third contender first-hand.

Mike Huckabee Announces That He's Not Running For President

Considering how much he was leading in polls and what with his charismatic, Mr. Rogers demeanor in general, this decision makes no sense to me. What with the current field of GOP candidates I'd say too that Barry's chances for reelection just got brighter:

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee announced Saturday that he will not seek the GOP nomination for president in 2012.


Huckabee ended speculation that he would run for president during his weekly Fox News Channel show saying, "All the factors say go, but my heart says no. And that’s the decision that I have made."


Indications had been mounting recently that the 2008 presidential candidate would not pursue a repeat bid for the Republican nomination for president. He switched his residency to Florida, where he and his wife have built a home, he co-founded a company with the mission of teaching history lessons to children, and key 2008 aides moved to other campaign teams, including those of former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann.


Huckabee also failed to form a presidential exploratory committee, a critical first step in building a presidential campaign.


And with a successful television show, book deals and lucrative paid appearances, another presidential bid may be less desirable for the television and radio host - even though he’s topped recent major national polls as the favored 2012 GOP candidate.


Though Huckabee asserted as recently as late April that his supporters should not make decisions based on his indecision, Saturday’s announcement settles the question once and for all.


And he admitted, "The past few months have been a time of deep, personal reflection."


"I don’t have an issue with my family being supportive. My wife actually has encouraged me to do it despite knowing full well that it would subject her and the rest of the family to some savage and brutal personal attacks," Huckabee said.


"I don’t expect everyone to understand this...For me, the discussion and decision is ultimately not a political one, it’s not a financial one, it’s not even a practical one, it’s a spiritual one."

New York Times Politicizes Fox News Contributor Books, Moves Them From Best-Sellers List

This couldn't possibly be just a mere coincidence after their Executive Editor has been out and about slamming FOX News, could it? Of course not:

The New York Times upgraded the classification of Mike Huckabee’s new book Friday, one day after Newsmax detailed complaints that the paper was politicizing its best-sellers rankings to the detriment of Fox News contributors.


Huckabee’s new best-seller “Simple Government” will move from the Times’ “Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous” list to its more popular and influential “Non-fiction” best-sellers list, Times spokeswoman Danielle Rhoades Ha tells Newsmax.


“We consider titles on a case-by-case basis, and the decision involves a multiplicity of factors, which in turn can lead to a change in our categorization,” says Ha. “As it happens, ‘Simple Government’ by Mike Huckabee will now appear on the non-fiction list.”


Ha was responding to complaints detailed by Newsmax from political strategist Dick Morris, who accused the Times of manipulating its best-seller list to keep conservative authors connected to Fox News out of the prime categories


The Times list set to be published Sunday, up until yesterday, had Morris’ “Revolt: How to Defeat Obama and Repeal His Socialist Programs,” Huckabee’s “Simple Government,” and Dr. Frank Luntz’s business book “Win” in the “Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous” List.


“What do those authors have in common?” Morris complained. “Just one thing: Huckabee, Morris, and Luntz are all Fox News contributors.”

Why not at least send them through the scanner, just as a PSA to remind passengers that they can skip the junk-touching if they’re willing to stand in front of the machine for a few seconds? Frankly, I’m surprised that The One hasn’t already mobilized Napolitano and TSA chief John Pistole to be scanned in full view of TV cameras to help calm passengers’ nerves, as Villaraigosa had the good political sense to do yesterday at LAX. After all, the backlash to the backlash is now in full swing, with loyal liberals loudly proclaiming that their junk is here for the touching. Seize the moment, Barry! Now’s the time for a little proactive “messaging” — if only to distract people from the whining by White House aides about how frustrated they are with the public’s grumbling.


As for Huck’s insistence that strip-or-grope is unconstitutional, the truth is a bit more nuanced. See this primer from CBS on how courts balance protections against unreasonable searches with the special security needs of airports. They can’t do anything they like to you, but as long as they’re being no more intrusive than necessary — and arguably, per the Abdulmutallab plot, checking people’s junk is now necessary — then they’re probably safe. (Er, what happens then if a terrorist is caught smuggling explosives in a body cavity?) Which is to say, when that TSA supervisor famously told John Tyner, “By buying your ticket you gave up a lot of rights,” he wasn’t as wrong as you might think. Exit question: Okay, let’s give up the scanners and the patdowns. What’s Huck’s solution once we do that?

Mike Huckabee Mulls Another Run For White House

Former Arkansas Gov. and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee lands near the top of the polls among potential Republican presidential candidates for 2012. And he may well stick his hat in the ring, Politico reports.

In an interview with WHO radio in Des Moines, Iowa, Huckabee said he might run but only if he sees evidence of a clear path to victory.

"I'm not ruling it out. And that's not a yes, but it's definitely not a no," says Huckabee, now a Fox News commentator. "The honest answer is I'm keeping it open as an option. I'm looking at whether or not there's a pathway to victory. As I've told several people, I'm not jumping into a pool when there's no water in it." 

Mike Huckabee Confronts Ann Coulter Over Her Claim He’s A ‘Liberal Christian’

Last night on his show Mike Huckabee called on (a seemingly unprepared) Ann Coulter to explain last month’s claim that “all liberals are atheists. Only the ones who have to stand for election even bother pretending to believe in God…There’s only one true Christian liberal in the country and that’s Mike Huckabee.” Indeed.


Coulter, who protested “this was not our topic, Governor!” defended the quote by saying it was not an insult to Huckabee, but an insult to all of Obama’s so-called Christian advisers (“they are such fake, phony frauds”) whom Coulter thinks do not spend enough time protesting abortion in the President’s presence. 

“So I started thinking, what if you were a genuine Christian but you had some crazy liberal views on things that are not directly Christian, what would that look like? And I thought of you Governor.”

The crux of Coulter’s ‘Huckabee is a liberal’ argument is that she thinks he was soft on illegal immigration during his 2008 run — specifically he once compared it to slavery — and moreover “everyone wants to be black in this country…everyone wants to claim the mantle of victimhood” and it’s neither acceptable nor a fair comparison. Coulter additionally asserts that Huckabee’s position that you shouldn’t punish the children of illegal aliens is the modern day equivalent of the government supporting illegitimacy in the African American community 30 years ago (presumably she is referring to welfare here) and when you subsidize something you get more of it. 

Huckabee, perhaps not surprisingly, appeared more upset at the idea of being called a liberal than he did at any of Coulter’s typically unhinged analogies, though it should be noted amidst all his protestations he held his ground and refused to “judge” anyone else’s Christianity. Watch below. If this midterm election season is anything to judge by, it’s probably just a matter of time before Coulter is asked to moderate an upcoming presidential debate.

I've seen Huckabee allow liberals to get him to back off a bit on his Christian views so Coulter may have a point in one context, but calling any conservative a "liberal Christian" has to rile them.

Huckabee's still catching a lot of flak (and rightfully so) for his part in Maurice Clemmons murders, but he's doing the right thing in confronting the naysayers head on. Then too, Huckabee couldn't have possibly seen what was coming down the road from Maurice Clemmons when he commuted his sentence.

Any political ambitions of former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee could be hurt by his role in freeing Maurice Clemmons, the gunman suspected in the execution murders of four police officers in Washington State -- especially since Clemmons would not be the first criminal Huckabee helped to free who later committed murder.

Clemmons was serving 95 years when Huckabee, then governor of Arkansas, commuted his sentence in 2000. Clemmons is now being sought in the murders of four Lakewood, Wash. police officers, who were ambushed and shot in a coffee shop Sunday morning.

Four years earlier, Huckabee also pushed for the parole of rapist Wayne Dumond despite chilling testimonies from victims and their relatives that he was a dangerous criminal who would strike again. Ashley Stevens, a 17-year-old cheerleader when Dumond raped her, told ABC News in 2007 that she put her face inches from Huckabee's and said, "This is how close I was to Wayne Dumond, and I will never forget his face, and you will never forget mine. He's the one that raped me."

First of all, who knew Mike Huckabee was Mr. Rogers on crime (well apparently, Malkin did and so did quite a few others)? And this doesn't look like a case of typical Far-Right paranoia, as from all accounts Maurice Clemmons had no business being on the streets. Apparently as governor of Arkansas, Huckabee granted a lot of undeserved pardons as well executive clemency's to felons with long rap sheets, including Clemmons. These acts of freedom caused plenty of controversy during Huckabee's years as Governor. Yet, Huckabee would often point fingers at supposedly inept prosecutors or inject religion into his pardons, all the time having little knowledge of the case, depending on the knowledge of his assistants instead. Maurice Clemmons has a rap sheet littered with crimes ranging from burglary to domestic violence to possibly raping a child. He was granted clemency by then Arkansas Gov. Huckabee, in 2000, after Clemmons stated he had turned his life around in prison upon serving 11 years in an Arkansas prison on various felony counts including severe violence. Huckabee commuted Clemmons sentence and made him immediately eligible for parole.

Witnesses are saying that Clemmons, who had just gotten into a couple of altercations with cops in recent days, was carrying around a grudge against police before he allegedly shot and killed 4 police officers. A massive manhunt for Clemmons is still underway, tho some reports are saying that he may be wounded or dead from a gunshot suffered from the ambush. Meanwhile, Mike Huckabee is on the defense....bigtime, and probably will be for quite awhile as right now he's not looking good at all.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says he hasn't decided if he's going to run for president in 2012 – yet. But he does have a plan for how the Republican Party can re-energize itself and ensure success in next year's midterm elections.

“The key thing is to have some specific proposals that we can say to the American people, 'Elect us, and here's what we're going to do,' he told Newsmax.TV's Kathleen Walter.

“I suggest a balanced-budget amendment, the implementation of the fair tax, which is a consumption-based tax. I think we ought to be talking about accountability, that government officials can't raise their pay at a time when the economy is going downhill. I'd love to see a law that forces members of Congress and Senate, if they run for another office they have to resign and give up their seat and their salary and their benefits if they're going to run for something other than the office they hold. I want to see term limits imposed on members of Congress so they can't stay up there forever and make a career of it.

Huckabee, who is promoting his new book, “A Simple Christmas: Twelve Stories that Celebrate the True Holiday Spirit,” said the party should capitalize on the momentum provided by recent Republican electoral victories. GOP candidates won gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey on Tuesday, and many more lower-profile races. Huckabee says those results should make President Barack Obama and fellow Democrats nervous heading into the 2010 midterm elections.

I'll keep saying it until I'm blue in the face: Mike Huckabee is the man that can unite the GOP. If the blockheads on the far-Right can just shut up and listen to the man, they'll see that what he offers for Americans are solutions, not just partisan rhetoric in the sole interest of opposing the Left. And that's what most Americans want right now: jobs, less taxes, a better economy for themselves and their kids, etc. They're tired of the petty Right vs. Left bickering.
