Pasta Maker Guido Barilla Causes Outrage in Italy After Saying He Would Not Consider Using a Gay Family to Advertise His Products

Gay rights activists in Italy have launched a boycott of the world's leading pasta maker after its chairman said he would only portray the "classic family" in his advertisements and, if people objected to that, they should feel free to eat a different kind of pasta.

Guido Barilla, who controls the fourth-generation Barilla Group family business with his two brothers, sparked outrage among activists, consumers and some politicians when he said he would not consider using a gay family to advertise Barilla pasta.

"For us the concept of the sacred family remains one of the basic values of the company," he told Italian radio on Wednesday evening. "I would not do it but not out of a lack of respect for homosexuals who have the right to do what they want without bothering others … [but] I don't see things like they do and I think the family that we speak to is a classic family."

Asked what effect he thought his attitude would have on gay consumers of pasta, Barilla said: "Well, if they like our pasta and our message they will eat it; if they don't like it and they don't like what we say they will … eat another."

In response, Aurelio Mancuso, chairman of Equality Italia, accused Barilla of being deliberately provocative. "Accepting the invitation of Barilla's owner to not eat his pasta, we are launching a boycott campaign against all his products," he added.

Within hours, the hashtag 'boicotta-barilla' was trending on Twitter. The Barilla chairman issued a statement saying that he was sorry if his remarks had caused offence and that he had only been trying to draw attention to the "central role" played by women within the family.

"I apologise if my words generated misunderstandings or arguments, or if they offended the sensibilities of some people," he said.

Liberal Facebook Promotes Vulgar Hate of Religion and Hetero-normalcy

One has to wonder how a publicly-traded company can do business with a business model staked on organized hateful harassment of Christians and the vast majority of normal, everyday, heterosexual Americans.

Here is the shocking reality. I returned from the Midwest Republican Leadership Conference last weekend to find that a Facebook group with a filthy (NSFW) name insulting Jesus and the Virgin Mary had "Liked" just about every article posted on our Center for Marriage Policy Facebook page (presently NSFW).

There is nothing more disgusting than seeing a photo of myself with Rick Santorum that is dirtied by "Likes" containing hateful, harassing, bullying expletives.

Facebook does not have a way to remove or block "Like" spammers injecting hate into the pages of others. I removed one of the postings and reposted it later in the day, only to find that the hate group had again "Liked" the posting.

I reported the abuse to Facebook for violations of their policies on hate speech and harassment. Facebook's response was shocking: they found this extremely offensive page "doesn't violate our community standard on bullying and harassment" and "doesn't violate our community standard on hate speech."

Facebook is "a safe and welcoming environment" for its most vile liberal friends, who openly use it as platform for vicious attacks on those of us who believe in God, country, and marriage.

Since the only way to remove this offensive language from our page is to delete all of our postings, we are stuck with "Facebook endorsed" hate speech and bullying. Our board decided to stand our ground. We will NOT back down by zeroing out our page.

We are looking into a lawsuit against Facebook. Facebook has a duty to provide software so that we can protect our corporate image. Where that software does not exist, they have an imperative duty to remove harassers and haters promptly.

We are doing everything we can to put pressure on Facebook, but the real power is in your hands:

• Investors: sell your stock now. Facebook is going the way of Reddit. Nobody will pay $30 to promote posts that bring on hordes of filthy attackers.

• Users: when Facebook asks you for more personal information, do not give it to them. They will sell it to Democrats to use against you later.

SAT Results Show Most Students Are Unprepared for College

Less than half of the students who took the SAT in 2013 are ready to succeed in postsecondary education, according to a report released on Thursday by the College Board, which owns the SAT.

Only 43 percent of the test takers this year met or exceeded the benchmark score of 1550 out of a possible 2400, the same proportion as last year.

Those who reach that number, according to the College Board, have a greater chance of attaining a B-minus average or higher during their first year of college and persisting to graduation. The mean score for 2013 was 1498.

In a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, College Board officials said the number of students reaching the benchmark score had remained virtually unchanged over the last five years. "We are just not moving the needle as aggressively as it needs to be moved," said Cyndie Schmeiser, chief of assessments.

For more test takers to reach a score of 1550, rigorous coursework will have to become more widely accessible, said David Coleman, president of the College Board.

Mr. Coleman plans to better align the SAT with the Common Core State Standards, which he helped write. They prescribe what students should learn, in English and mathematics, from kindergarten through high school. His proposal to make the essay portion of the SAT more analytical has been met by a mix of applause and apprehension.

The SAT results show that more must be done in elementary and secondary schools to prepare students for college and careers, Mr. Coleman said on Tuesday: "We at the College Board consider this a call for action."

Liberals Outraged At NY Post Reporter Whose Boyfriend Enjoys Her Sandwiches

“[A] young woman has attracted attention from culinary world icons such as Emeril Lagasse, Michael White and Ken Friedman with 300sandwiches.com,” a New York Post story published on Tuesday began. The Post revealed that this mystery woman was, in fact, New York Post Page Six reporter Stephanie Smith. The Post story revealed that she not only enjoys making sandwiches for her boyfriend, he requests them frequently. Now, outrage is swelling over Smith’s boyfriend’s sandwich requests.


“My boyfriend, Eric, is the gourmet cook in our relationship, but he’d always want me to make him a sandwich,” Smith begins.

Each morning, he would ask, “Honey, how long you have been awake?”

“About 15 minutes,” I’d reply.

“You’ve been up for 15 minutes and you haven’t made me a sandwich?”

“To him, sandwiches are like kisses or hugs,” she continues. “Or sex.”

“Sandwiches are love,’ he says. “Especially when you make them. You can’t get a sandwich with love from the deli.”

“Wait a second,” MSNBC host Chris Hayes reacted. “This asshole was literally waking up every morning and saying “Why haven’t you made me a sandwich yet?’”

“No matter what’s on the menu, Eric smiles and says thank you,” Smith concluded in her revealing article.

“He’s just happy I cook for him at all.”

She seems happy too.

The Little Sisters of the Poor are First Group To File Suit Against Obama's HHS Mandate

Fighting back against the most anti-Christian President of our times:

On September 24, 2013, the Little Sisters of the Poor became the first group to file a class-action lawsuit against the HHS Mandate, saying that they would be unable to comply with the requirement to provide employees with free access to birth control, sterilization, and abortifacients. 

The Little Sisters of the Poor are a Roman Catholic congregation of women religious that was founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. The mission of the order “is to offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as a family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself.” The order is international and present in more than 30 countries. 

The Little Sisters of the Poor own and operate nursing homes and assisted living residences as part of their mission to care for the elderly poor. There are 30 of these homes in the United States alone. 

Although there was a well-publicized “religious employers exception” to the HHS Mandate, the Little Sisters of the Poor are not considered to be religious enough to qualify. According to the exception, an employer only qualifies as a “religious” employer if they only employ and serve people of the same religion. As the Little Sisters of the Poor care for everybody regardless of their religious affiliation, they are not considered to be a “religious” employer, despite being a community of religious sisters. 

The Little Sisters of the Poor believe that all life is valuable, and that their religious beliefs prohibit them from distributing contraceptives or abortion-causing drugs.

“Like all of the Little Sisters, I have vowed to God and the Roman Catholic Church that I will treat all life as valuable, and I have dedicated my life to that work,” explained Sister Loraine Marie, Superior for one of the three U.S. provinces in the Congregation. “We cannot violate our vows by participating in the government’s program to provide access to abortion inducing drugs.”

The lawsuit was filed by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty on behalf of the Little Sisters of the Poor. The order will face fines from the IRS unless an agreement is made. The Little Sisters of the Poor are the first benefits providers who have filed suit against the Mandate.

The Washington Post Openly Discriminates Against Black Reverend E.W. Jackson In Virginia Campaign

If black Rev. E.W. Jackson was a liberal and his white opponent Ralph Northam was a conservative, The Washington Post would have to accuse itself of racism.  In the Virginia campaign for lieutenant governor, Northam, a white liberal, is the beneficiary of obvious and massive discrimination. He hasn’t drawn a single headline from the Post since he won the primary in June. No one needs to know anything he's said or anything he's done. He's apparently perfect.

But once again on Tuesday, the Post took out a journo-hammer and hit Jackson the black conservative over the head. On the front page of the Metro section, the headline was “E.W. Jackson’s combative style to be put to test.”  Post reporter Michael Laris relied on Democratic trackers (and they happily relied on him) to report that Jackson had said something allegedly outrageous from a minister -- that Christianity was true, and other religions were false:

While describing a list of the "controversial" things that he believes, and that he said he must say as a Christian, he proclaimed that non-Christians "are engaged in some sort of false religion." 

"Any time you say, 'There is no other means of salvation but through Jesus Christ, and if you don't know him and you don't follow him and you don't go through him, you are engaged in some sort of false religion,' that's controversial. But it's the truth," Jackson said, according to a recording made by a Democratic tracker. "Jesus said, 'I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes unto the Father but by me.' " 

The Web site of the Restoration Fellowship Church, where Jackson spoke Sunday, includes a recording of the sermon. But a short section that included the "false religion" comment was missing from the recording. 

The church's pastor, Jay Ahlemann, said he agrees with Jackson's interpretation. As for non-Christians, "I would expect they would be offended," Ahlemann acknowledged. "It's not our purpose. And [Jackson] said he did not set out to offend people. It's his purpose to proclaim what the Bible said as a preacher. That was not a political speech. That was a Bible sermon."

The Post put this at the end of the Metro story, but the Christianity-is-true remarks were the entire E.W. Jackson story as summarized in the Post’s free Express tabloid. By the end of the day, D.C. radio station WMAL was running a soundbite of Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell suggesting Rev. Jackson shouldn't run for office with a Christian message like that. 

In nearly every Jackson story the Post writes, they recount their list of his outrages, and suggest he has a “divisive mean streak.” If only they would add to every Jackson story that the Post endorsed his white opponent, the discrimination might be even more obvious. When you’re a liberal, it’s not a sign of a “divisive mean streak” that you favor leaving babies to die on a table after birth because the mommy had wanted an abortion.

Speaking last Wednesday at the Center for American Progress (CAP), Democratic Leader of the House Nancy Pelosi became a little confused at one point, stumbling over her words and flipping through her notes while referencing one of the founding documents of the United States. Rep. Pelosi was recalling an early women's rights convention held in Seneca Falls, New York 165 years ago. 

"And so, it was 165 years ago, 165 years ago. Imagine the courage it took for those women to go to Seneca Falls and do what they did there, to even leave home without their husband’s permission, or father’s, or whoever it was. To go to Seneca Falls, and to paraphrase what our founders said in the Constitution of the United States: they said the truths that are self-evident, that every man and woman, that men and women were created equal and that we must go forward in recognition of that." 

 It is of course the Declaration of Independence and not the Constitution that contains the reference to self-evident truths: 

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Of course, conservatives like Ann Coulter and even Republican Congresswoman Virginia Foxx have long said publicly that Shepard's death had nothing to do with his lifestyle choice. And isn't it ironic that the guy writing a book and exposing the lies surrounding Shepard's death is gay himself? Fifteen years after Matthew Shepard was tied to a fence and beaten to death in Wyoming, becoming a powerful symbol for the gay community's fight for hate crimes legislation, a new book claims the college student was murdered for “reasons far more complicated” than being homosexual.

Stephen Jimenez’s “The Book of Matt: Hidden Truths About the Murder of Matthew Shepard” claims a 13-year investigation — including trips to Laramie, Wyo., and interviews with more than 100 sources — contradicts police testimony and national consensus that the University of Wyoming freshman was targeted by Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson in 1998 because he was gay.

“His aim was to write a screenplay on what he, and the rest of the nation, believed to be an open-and-shut case of bigoted violence,” reads a press release accompanying the 368-page book, which hits shelves Tuesday. “As a gay man, he felt an added moral imperative to tell Matthew’s story. But what Jimenez eventually found in Wyoming was a tangled web of secrets.”

Billed as a book sure to inspire dialogue, Jimenez claims his efforts to clearly explain the “misunderstood” crime led him to twenty states and Washington, D.C., as well as into the “deadly underworld of drug trafficking,” according to the press release.

“Who was the real Matthew Shepard and what were the true circumstances of his brutal murder? And now that he was larger than life, did anyone care?”

Shepard, 21, died five days after the gruesome attack. He was pistol-whipped into a coma while tied to a fence outside the small college town. His death, which quickly became synonymous with anti-gay hate in America, inspired several films, a play and federal hate-crime legislation signed by President Obama in 2009.

Jimenez, a veteran journalist, producer and graduate of Georgetown University, defended the book and his "rigorous journalistic standards" when contacted by FoxNews.com on Friday.

"I applied rigorous journalistic standards to the reporting and writing of this book, relying on sources ranging from those in the legal system and law enforcement to those who knew Matthew Shepard and the perpetrators personally," Jimenez's statement read. "Principal among them were the Shepard prosecutor, Cal Rerucha, who won double life sentences for the perpetrators; lead homicide detective Ben Fritzen; former police officer and drug investigator Flint Waters; and numerous other law enforcement officials from several agencies. I have also included a number of new sources in the book, who are speaking on the record for the first time." 

Jimenez told The Dish he discovered a key piece of the puzzle in the form of an anonymous letter in formerly-sealed court documents.

“Basically the letter was saying that the defense raised by Aaron McKinney's defense team of 'gay panic' was false and the evidence that was cited for that was that Aaron McKinney had been a male hustler, that he was familiar with gay guys in gay bars,” Jimenez told the website. “It mentioned at first both Aaron and Russell, but as the letter went on it spoke more about Aaron, mentioning that he really did like having sex with gay guys, that he wasn't unfamiliar with homosexuality and the gay world.”

The Matthew Shepard Foundation, meanwhile, has blasted Jimenez’s take, characterizing the book as an attempt to rewrite history.

Yesterday, The Sunday Assembly—the London-based “Atheist Church” that has, since its January launch, been stealing headlines the world over—announced a new “global missionary tour.” In October and November, affiliated Sunday Assemblies will open in 22 cities: in England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, the United States and Australia. “I think this is the moment,” Assembly founder Sanderson Jones told me in an email last week, “when the Sunday Assembly goes from being an interesting phenomenon to becoming a truly global movement.” Structured godlessness is ready for export.

The Assembly has come a long way in eight months: from scrappy East London community venture (motto: “Live Better, Help Often and Wonder More;” method: “part atheist church, part foot-stomping good time”) to the kind of organization that sends out embargoed press releases about global expansion projects. “The 3,000 percent growth rate might make this non-religious Assembly the fastest growing church in the world,” organizers boast.

There’s more to come: In October, the Sunday Assembly (SA) will launch a crowdfunded indiegogo campaign, with the ambitious goal of raising £500,000 (or, about $793,000). This will be followed by a second wave of openings. “ The effort reads as part quixotic hipster start-up, part Southern megachurch.

Like any attempt at organized non-belief, the Sunday Assemblies will attract their fair share of derision from critics. But the franchise model might dismay some followers too. For a corporate empire needs an executive board; a brand needs brand managers; a federation needs a strict set of guiding tenets—and consequences for those who stray from the fold. And isn’t that all wholly opposed to Freethought?

Brian Johnson, Evangelical Christian, Allowed To Distribute Bibles At Minneapolis Gay Pride Festival

A small victory for conservatives and those of us that know homosexuality to be a sin:

In the midst of a four-year legal battle with the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a Wisconsin man has been grated the right to once again distribute bibles at at the city's annual Gay Pride Festival in Loring Park next year.

Brian Johnson, a Wisconsin taxidermist, reportedly began distributing bibles with his family at the Twin Cities' annual Gay Pride Festival in 1998 with no complaints or instances of police intervention. However, festival organizers told Johnson in 2009 that he would not be allowed to distribute bibles and that the park was "private property" for that day. When he refused to leave, he was arrested. The charges were later dropped.
Johnson's legal battle over his place at the Twin Cities Gay Pride Festival since this arrest has been complicated.

After being turned away again in 2010, festival organizers appeared to side with Johnson, reportedly ruling that both his presence and bible distribution were protected under the First Amendment. This led to organizers for the Gay Pride Festival suing the Minneapolis Park Board in support of Johnson's First Amendment rights. U.S. District Judge John Tunheim imposed a compromise, stating: “In theory, Twin Cities Pride could designate ‘free-speech zones’ on the Pride Festival grounds in which anyone who wishes to distribute literature or display signage may do so.”

Both sides agreed and Johnson's distribution of religious propaganda was delegated to a booth in a "no pride zone," allowing him to return to the 2011 festival.

Nate Kellum, Johnson's attorney, reportedly noted, 

[The area] was a tract of land in a corner of the park where nobody would ever go because it was not part of a festival.... The government should not be exiling free speech, it should be protecting it... it’s ridiculous to say that the only place where people can hand out Bibles is an area where there’s no one to hand Bibles to. The Constitution simply does not permit the board to relegate free speech to isolated regions where no one can receive the message. That’s not free speech at all. It’s pure censorship.

Kellum appealed the ruling that confined Johnson to a booth to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and won Johnson an emergency injunction that allowed him to distribute bibles at the 2012 and 2013 Minneapolis pride events.

While Johnson's case against the Minneapolis Park Board has not been settled, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals filed an additional injunction last week that will allow him to disseminate bibles at the 2014 gay pride event while his case moves forward.

"I do this once a year," said Johnson. "I talk to people about the love of Jesus Christ." 

Kellum reportedly stated that he feels "very optimistic" that the court will rule in favor of Johnson.
