Federal Judge Defies Eric Holder: Yes, Arizona and Kansas Can Require Voters To Prove Their Citizenship

How about coming to America the right way? After all illegal is illegal and other countries around the world don't allow a tenth of the crap illegals get away with here:

Under the oh so august leadership of Attorney General Eric Holder, the Obama administration has been doing their very best to thwart various states in their individual endeavors to implement voter ID laws. In this latest iteration of that ongoing battle, the Federal Election Assistance Commission has so far refused to help state officials in Kansas and Arizona change federal election registration forms to include proof of citizenship. 

Both states have new voter-ID measures measures that require new voters to provide a birth certificate, passport, or other documentation to prove their citizenship, while the federal registration form only requires that new voters sign a statement declaring that they are citizens. On Wednesday, a federal judge basically told the Obama administration to stop deliberately getting in the states’ way on this one, via the LA Times:

A federal judge has ruled that Kansas and Arizona should be allowed to require voters to provide evidence of U.S. citizenship, in a case closely watched by both sides dealing with the question of voter eligibility.

U.S. District Judge Eric Melgren in Wichita, Kan., ruled that the U.S. Election Assistance Commission had no legal authority to deny requests from the two states to add the citizenship requirement. In the ruling, released Wednesday, he ordered the commission to revise the national form immediately. …

“This is a huge victory for the states of Kansas and Arizona,” Kobach said in a prepared statement emailed to reporters. “They have successfully protected our sovereign right to set and enforce the qualifications for registering to vote. We have now paved the way for all 50 states to protect their voter rolls and ensure that only U.S. citizens can vote.”

“Today’s decision is an important victory for the people of Arizona against the Obama administration, assuring that only Arizona residents and not illegals vote in Arizona elections,” Arizona Atty. Gen. Tom Horne said in a statement.

“Only Arizona residents and not illegals”? Well, that of course is just ridiculous, because as we know perfectly well by now — we know, because progressives continuously tell us so — voter fraud is absolutely not a real thing. Voter-ID laws are just vacuous excuses made up by Republicans in order to maliciously disenfranchise minority voters. “Proof of citizenship” requirement? Ha! I mean, can you say “racist dog whistle”?

Eric Holder Applies "Same-Sex Rights" to Justice Department

Priorities in the Obama administration have never been more transparent: white liberals and their Godless agenda come first:

In an assertion of same-sex marriage rights, Attorney General Eric Holder is applying a landmark Supreme Court ruling to the Justice Department, announcing Saturday that same-sex spouses cannot be compelled to testify against each other, should be eligible to file for bankruptcy jointly, and are entitled to the same rights and privileges as federal prison inmates in opposite-sex marriages.

The Justice Department runs a number of benefits programs, and Holder says same-sex couples will qualify for them. They include the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund and benefits to surviving spouses of public safety officers who suffer catastrophic or fatal injuries in the line of duty.

"In every courthouse, in every proceeding, and in every place where a member of the Department of Justice stands on behalf of the United States, they will strive to ensure that same-sex marriages receive the same privileges, protections, and rights as opposite-sex marriages under federal law," Holder said in prepared remarks to the Human Rights Campaign in New York. The advocacy group works on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equal rights.

Just as in the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the stakes in the current generation over same-sex marriage rights "could not be higher," said Holder.

"The Justice Department's role in confronting discrimination must be as aggressive today as it was in Robert Kennedy's time," Holder said of the attorney general who played a leadership role in advancing civil rights.

On Monday, the Justice Department will issue a policy memo to its employees instructing them to give lawful same-sex marriages full and equal recognition, to the greatest extent possible under the law.

Holder's address is the latest application of a Supreme Court ruling that struck down a provision in the Defense of Marriage Act defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The decision applies to legally married same-sex couples seeking federal benefits.

Barack Obama Wants To Stop Minority Kids From Attending Private Schools

Another issue that you won't see in the mainstream press or even the black, liberal, Obamabot press, because it's really about keeping blacks poor, dependent, indoctrinated and voting for Democrats::

Coretta Pittman goes well beyond the 40 hours of service required of parents whose children attend the Good Shepherd School in New Orleans. Last year she did 100.

She borrows her mother’s car to take her son Elias, a second grader, to Good Shepherd each morning rather than sending him to a public school across the street. She chooses to work part-time so she can volunteer.

Without a voucher, Pittman would not be able to send Elias to the private Catholic school.

“I love the school,” she said. “I wouldn’t switch him for anything.”

Pittman fears that without the program Elias’s future could be snuffed out, like her nephew. She gets emotional when talking about his death. “Me and my mother raised my nephew from the time he came home from the hospital,” Pittman said. “A year ago, he was killed. He was really smart. I think he could’ve done and been anything that he wanted to.”

“I just wonder if he would’ve had somewhere like Good Shepherd to go, what could have become of him,” she said. “And I’m just hoping that, I don’t want to ever have to wonder what could have become of my son.”

When we find Elias he is sprinting across the playground. Baton in hand, he nearly barrels his cheering classmates over as he finishes his leg of a relay race. We summon him over. Wearing a huge smile, he tells us what he wants to be when he grows up.

“I like math and numbers,” he says. “I want to be a mathematician and a doctor. I’d love to be a police. My auntie’s husband is a police.”

Elias’s favorite part about school: “I get to talk to my friends.”

“I don’t want to imagine what would happen if the program ended,” his mother says. “It gives my son choices and it gives me hope.”

The children at St. Leo the Great Catholic Central in New Orleans know more Spanish than I do. Kids from Ms. Margaret Mary’s third grade class stand to recite “Padre Nuestro”—the Lord’s Prayer—when we walk in. Smiling faces greet us with a resounding “good morning” in each classroom.

A portrait of Barack Obama hangs on the wall. The kids don’t know anything about the motions filed by the president’s Justice Department, which could block kids like them from attending schools like St. Leo—better schools than those in the public system they’ve left behind. They know that they love their teachers, and they are learning.

“What frustrates me—I keep hounding on it, but it’s true,” said Ronald Briggs, chairman of the board at Good Shepherd. “The state of Louisiana saves money on the deal. They actually save $16 million a year.”

“The taxpayer wins, the kids win, and the guardians win. So what’s the problem?”

As president, one of the first laws Obama signed killed a voucher program in Washington, D.C. Though Congress worked to reinstate the program, Obama has repeatedly tried to defund it in his budget proposals.

Now the Justice Department is going after Louisiana, first seeking a permanent injunction against the state scholarship program, which would put the fate of future voucher recipients in the hands of federal judges.

Roughly 6,750 low-income students received a voucher this school year to escape failing schools.

“It’s political. It’s unfortunate. It’s wrong,” said Ann Duplessis, the president of the Louisiana Federation for Children (LFC).

A lifelong Democrat, Duplessis opposed school choice for years until she began to question who the unions were really fighting for.

“It was more of actually looking at those kids,” she said. “I have three girls and three grandchildren. I couldn’t bear the thought of them being in an environment that I didn’t know if they were going to come home that evening.”

“You want to fight for your kids,” she said. “You look in their faces—they’re children.”

House Republicans Introduce Resolution to Impeach Attorney General Eric Holder

About freaking time:

A group of congressional Republicans introduced a resolution Thursday to call for the impeachment of Attorney General Eric Holder, alleging Holder had committed “high crimes and misdemeanors” during his tenure as head of the Justice Department.

The resolution was introduced by Rep. Pete Olson, R-Texas, who claims Holder has committed “the offenses of lying to Congress, refusing to comply with a subpoena, and failing to fulfill his oath of office.”

Olson cites Holder’s unwillingness to cooperate during the investigation into the botched Operation “Fast and Furious, his refusal to prosecute those involved IRS targeting of conservative groups, his failure to enforce laws including the Defense of Marriage Act, and his “false testimony” about the DOJ’s monitoring of Fox News journalist James Rosen as articles that are grounds for impeachment.

“For nearly five years, Attorney General Holder has systematically deceived Congress and destroyed the credibility of the Justice Department in the eyes of the American people,” Olson said in a statement.

Olson was joined by 19 other Republican representatives in the resolution.

One House Democrat spoke out against the resolution before it was introduced Thursday, calling it “the most fundamental abuse of the impeachment power.”

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a former federal prosecutor who led the Senate in the impeachment of a federal judge in 2010, said the articles of impeachment in the resolution are simply a list of “debunked conspiracy theories.”

Legal Motion Filed Against DOJ Witch Hunt on Texas Voter ID

Voter integrity group True the Vote has filed a motion intervening in a Department of Justice lawsuit against the voter identification law in Texas. 

"The Holder Justice Department has made clear its litigation against Texas will serve as a warning that other states should not pursue election integrity measures - True the Vote stands ready to fight their effort to dilute voters' rights," True the Vote President Catherine Engelbrecht said in statement. "Over 80 percent of Americans favor laws changing to require photo voter identification at the polls. When the DOJ makes baseless claims to obscure the integrity of the voting process, we will not stand idly by. If Texas is to be labeled a political prize by the Plaintiffs and their Interveners, attacking election integrity will not be an acceptable strategy." 

In August, Attorney General Eric Holder issued a lawsuit to stop a strongly supported voter identification law in Texas after the Supreme Court struck down parts of the Voting Rights Act, which resulted in southern states being allowed to change election laws without asking DOJ for permission first. After issuing the lawsuit, Holder argued he would not allow a Supreme Court decision to declare "open season" on voting rights. 

"The Plaintiff [DOJ] is attempting to obtain a remedy which this Court does nothave the jurisdiction to grant. This Court does not have the authority to impose statewidemandates on Texas to submit all future state, county and local election law changes to thePlaintiff for approval under Section 3 of the Voting Rights Act," the motion states. 

Texas Governor Rick Perry has vowed to do whatever it takes to fight DOJ on this issue.

Tom Brokaw on Eric Holder: If It Was John Ashcroft, ‘The Left Would Be Going Very Hard After Them’

Conservatives can surely recall too how the hypocrites on the Left went hard calling for former Bush AG Alberto Gonzales for having the gall to fire some attorneys. But with repeated liar Eric Holder now involved in numerous scandals, it's a whole different story:

News veteran Tom Brokaw, in an appearance said if Bush administration Attorney General John Ashcroft were dealing with the same scandals that Attorney General Eric Holder has been embroiled in as part of the Obama administration, “the left would be going very hard after them.”

“From a political point of view, one of the ways that you can measure the impact of all of this and the fairness of it, think if this had happened in the Bush administration with John Ashcroft as the attorney general. You know full well the Democrats and the left would be going very hard after them with these issues that are in play,” Brokaw said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.

Host David Gregory asked Brokaw whether Holder would resign given the number of scandals DOJ is caught up in, most recently investigating the phone records of AP reporters and editors as well as Fox News.
“Do you think – you’ve seen these kind of investigations before, meaning the Judiciary investigation, committee investigation of the attorney general. This could be elongated. You have this morning on ‘The New York Times’ government officials talking off the record or on background about his effectiveness. Does he stay in the job?” Gregory asked.

“Boy, I think it’s tough to see how he does at this case. It’s up to the president. What we’re seeing in the ‘New York Times’ today is that familiar Washington two-step - officially getting the endorsement of people like David Axelrod and the spokesman for the president, but at the same time, there’s another part of that two-step that is going on in which people think it would better if he left,” Brokaw said.

“It would be better for the president to get this cleaned up. He has become obviously the lightning rod for a lot of the criticism just on this panel and certainly in Republican circles,” Brokaw added.

NBC Reports Eric Holder Signed Off On Search Of Fox Reporter James Rosen’s Private Emails

According to a report by NBC News investigative reporter Michael Isikoff, Attorney General Eric Holder signed off on the order to issue a warrant on Fox News reporter James Rosen’s communications records. The warrant allowed federal investigators to subpoena Rosen’s private emails as well as to look into his telephone records and those of his family members. 

Rosen, who has not been charged in the case, was nonetheless the target of a search warrant that enabled Justice Department investigators to secretly seized his private emails after an FBI agent said he had “asked, solicited and encouraged … (a source) to disclose sensitive United States internal documents and intelligence information.”  

“It was approved at the highest levels– and I mean the highest,” said one anonymous law enforcement official. 

“Justice officials have since said they do not intend to criminally charge Rosen, but media groups have condemned the issuance of the search warrant itself,” Isikoff writes. 

Isikoff says that his requests for comments from the Department of Justice have not been returned.

Obama Administration Admits Drone Strikes Have Killed Four Americans Since 2009

Counterterrorism drone strikes have killed four Americans overseas since 2009, the U.S. government acknowledged for the first time on Wednesday, one day before President Barack Obama delivers a major speech on related policy.

In a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, Attorney General Eric Holder said the United States specifically targeted and killed one American citizen, al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, in 2011 in Yemen, alleging he was plotting attacks against the United States.

The letter provided new details about al-Awlaki's alleged involvement in bomb plots targeting U.S. aviation.

Holder also said the Obama administration was aware of three other Americans who had been killed in counterterrorism operations overseas.

Holder said Samir Kahn, Abdul Rahman Anwar al-Awlaki and Jude Kenan Mohammed were not targeted by the United States but he did not add more details about their deaths.

The letter represents the first U.S. admission that the four were killed in counterterror strikes even though their deaths had been reported in the media.

Abdul Rahman Anwar Al-Awlaki was the 16-year-old son of the al Qaeda cleric and was killed in Pakistan about two weeks after his father's death.

Khan produced the English-language magazine Inspire for al Qaeda's affiliate in the Arabian Peninsula, which included bomb-making instruction. He was killed alongside the elder al-Awlaki.

Mohammed, who was once on the FBI's Most Wanted list, was indicted in July 2009 as part of a North Carolina-based terror ring. He was charged with plotting to murder, kidnap or maim persons overseas and provide material support to terrorists. Mohammed was never arrested and for a time reportedly was living in Pakistan.

The Justice Department did not say when he was killed or provide any details.

Obama will deliver long-promised remarks on Thursday at National Defense University and will speak at length about the policy and legal rationale for how the United States takes action against al Qaeda and its affiliates, including the use of drones, according to a White House official.

Obama Department of Justice Secretly Monitored and Criminalized Three Fox News Reporters

Silencing the only news network that dares to challenge him, that seems to be the objective here:

Earlier today the Washington Post reported that Fox News' James Rosen had been secretly monitored by the Department of Justice. DOJ monitored his work and personal emails, read his work and personal emails, monitored his phones, monitored his movements and even named him as a criminal conspirator. Now, we know Rosen wasn't the only Fox News reporter targeted. Reporter William LaJeunesse, who extensively covered Operation Fast and Furious and national-security senior producer Mike Levine.

Fox News executive Michael Clemente is vowing to stand by reporters and slammed the administration for their intimidation tactics and assault on the First Amendment.

“We are outraged to learn today that James Rosen was named a criminal co-conspirator for simply doing his job as a reporter. In fact, it is downright chilling. We will unequivocally defend his right to operate as a member of what up until now has always been a free press.”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney refused to comment on the secret monitoring of Fox News reporters and continued to say President Obama believes in a balance between free speech and national security during his press briefing Monday.

"I can't address an ongoing criminal investigation," Carney said. "The president believes strongly in the need for reporters to pursue investigative journalism."

The Department of Justice is justifying its actions and saying the Department followed the law and all regulations in relation to tapping communications of the press.

Hey, remember when then-Senator Barack Obama and a legion of other Democrats demanded that Bush administration Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for firing 8 U.S. attorneys? The liberal media sure doesn't. And yet, having miraculously survived the gross negligence and incompetency surrounding the “Fast and Furious” gun scandal, AG Eric Holder is once again making news for all the wrong reasons with the Associated Press-leak scandal and this time, even Obama stans can't defend him:

Who says there is no consensus anymore between hyper-partisan Democrats and Republicans? Well, just about everyone these days. But the usual Cassandras, often seen decrying the supposed lack of concord in Washington D.C., are unlikely to point to the developing consensus around the notion that Attorney General Eric Holder should resign as a welcome bit of political comity. Still, and in spite of the silence of the hollow, label-free political commentators who value unity for its own sake, anything that brings together former Current TV host Keith Olbermann and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has to be worth noting.


“The First Amendment doesn’t request the federal government to respect it; it demands it,” declared RNC Chairman Priebus in a written statement released on Tuesday. “Attorney General Eric Holder, in permitting the Justice Department to issue secret subpoenas to spy on Associated Press reporters, has trampled on the First Amendment and failed in his sworn duty to uphold the Constitution.”

Attorney General Holder has so egregiously violated the public trust, the president should ask for his immediate resignation. If President [Barack] Obama does not, the message will be unmistakable: The President of the United States believes his administration is above the Constitution and does not respect the role of a free press.

Priebus found some unlikely allies in his call for action from the White House regarding the DoJ’s decision to unilaterally obtain two months of telephone records from the Associated Press.

Making up Priebus’ coalition of the willing in his crusade to force President Obama to jettison his friend and close political ally are Olbermann and progressive radio and television host David Schuster:

“If Mr. Holder continues to support this rogue action, he should resign,” Olbermann declared on his Twitter account Tuesday. 

Given all this unity, it is a curiosity as to where the members of the perpetually chagrined third way crowd are hiding? Shouldn’t this be celebrated? Is this not a Kumbaya moment which merits shouting from the rooftops? Granted, Holder’s potential resignation is not so much a policy achievement as it is a long-overdue correction, but it is a place to start. 

Perhaps, in coming days, we will point to bipartisanship and say that this regularly lip serviced phenomenon actually accomplished something.

Illegal immigration hurts Blacks esp. due to the high unemployment rate and minorities being on the lower end of the skill spectrum due to lack of education, the breakdown of the family and poverty. During an April 24 address to the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), Attorney General Eric Holder told the crowd that “creating a pathway to earned citizenship” is a critical element of any comprehensive immigration reform plan. He said that establishing legal status for the nation’s estimated 11 million illegal immigrants is a “matter of civil and human rights.”

“Creating a pathway to earned citizenship for the 11 million unauthorized immigrants in this country is essential,” Holder said to applause. “The way we treat our friends and neighbors who are undocumented by creating a mechanism for them to earn citizenship and move out of the shadows transcends the issue of immigration status.”

“This is a matter of civil and human rights,” Holder continued. “It is about who we are as a nation. And it goes to the core of our treasured American principle of equal opportunity.”

Holder said that the reform proposals under consideration in the Congress are “consistent with these basic principles.”

Fox & Friends Panel Takes Media To Task For Bias In Reporting Arizona Law, Fast And Furious

On Monday, Fox & Friends hosted a panel discussion about how the major networks have covered the Arizona immigration law, which was recently partially upheld by the Supreme Court, and the Fast and Furious gun walking scandal. The panel concluded that the major networks had reported those stories in a biased fashion. 

Fill-in host Alisyn Camerota opened the panel by playing a clip of Univision anchor Jorge Ramos speaking with ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer about Arizona’s controversial immigration law. 

“This is a very sad day for the Hispanic community,” said Ramos on Monday when the Supreme Court left one key provision of that law in place. “This would only create more persecution and discrimination in Arizona and in many other states.”

“Was that an objective report by an anchor,” Camerota asked her panel guests. 

“It’s not that Jorge Ramos is opinionated, he’s simply wrong,” said former George W. Bush Labor Secretary nominee Linda Chavez.

Camerota asked if her panel found it surprising that ABC News would allow Univision’s opinion without an opposing view on their network news broadcast. 

“Nothing surprises me anymore in the media,” said Jon-Christopher Bua, a U.S. political analysis for Sky News.

“I think it is tragic when people are relying on listening to news, you know, at the dinner table and they’re getting somebody’s opinion,” Interjected Tamara Holder, Fox News legal analyst. “What makes Fox great is that you get crazy people like me on the left giving an opinion and other people who are giving just the news. And there needs to be a separation.”

Camerota said that the network broadcasts have largely ignored the Fast and Furious scandal and, those networks that have covered the story, did so briefly until “other, lesser stories have eclipsed it.”

“Is it newsworthy,” asked Camerota.

“Of course it’s newsworthy,” replied Chavez. “And the irony is, President [Barack] Obama – by invoking executive privilege – has actually now forced this issue onto the major, mainstream media.”

Holder said that it is not uncommon for House committee votes to not make it onto the news – which is what Attorney General Eric Holder’s contempt citation remains at this stage.

House Oversight Committee Votes 23-17 To Hold A.G. Eric Holder In Contempt Of Congress

The House Oversight Committee has voted to find U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress after refusing to surrender documents relating to the Fast and Furious gun walking scandal. The contempt charge will now head to the full House of Representatives for a vote.

President Barack Obama invoked executive privilege on Tuesday night to withhold documents relating to Fast and Furious. 

The poorly administered operation cost the lives of an unknown number of Mexican civilians as well as the life of American border agent Brian Terry. 

Democrats have accused Congressional Republicans of playing politics with the Fast and Furious case. Some Congressional Democrats, including House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), have said that the charge of contempt against Holder is motivated by the political need to tarnish the Obama White House ahead of the presidential election in November.

Powerful New Ad Slams President Obama Over Lethal Fast and Furious Operation
