NAACP Stands by Chapter President Calling Sen. Tim Scott a Ventriloquist’s ‘Dummy’

The NAACP’s North Carolina President Rev. William Barber II ignited a firestorm when, in an extensive profile in a South Carolina paper, he attacked Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) as a being a puppet and a tool of the “extreme right wing.” Scott did not respond in kind, but Republican officials demanded that Barber and the NAACP disavow those comments. Far from distancing themselves from Barber or his statement, the NAACP issued a statement defending the North Carolina-based chapter official and standing by his comments. 

“A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy,” Barber said of Scott, one of just two African-Americans in the U.S. Senate.

“Dr. King emphasized love and justice rather than extremism,” a statement issued to Fox News read. “Unless we stand for justice we cannot claim allegiance to or pay homage to Dr. King.”

“In a state such as South Carolina, politicians, whether they be black or white, should not be echoing the position of the far right,” the statement concluded.

Tavis Smiley: Black People Are Not Better Off Under Obama and the President Ought to Be ‘Held Responsible’

Tavis Smiley isn't an Uncle Tom and nor is he an ass-kissing, black liberal who believes it's criminal to ever criticize Barack Obama. No, Tavis Smiley is a truth-teller who calls it as he sees it, regardless of political ideology or fear-mongering. And for that alone, he should everyone's respect:

As we reported this week, PBS radio host Tavis Smiley debated Fox’s Sean Hannity over the government shutdown. Another interesting nugget from that interview is when Smiley asserted that the lot of black Americans has not improved under this current presidency.

“Are black Americans better off five years into the Obama presidency?” Hannity bluntly asked the political radio host.

“Let me answer your question very forthrightly: No, they are not,” Smiley responded. “The data is going to indicate, sadly, that when the Obama administration is over, black people will have lost ground in every single leading economic indicator category.”

“On that regard,” he added, “the president ought to be held responsible.”

However, Smiley continued, “I respect the president. I will protect the president. And I will correct the president. He’s right on this government shutdown. Republicans are thwarting the rule of law with the Constitution. If they let this debt go into default, they’re trampling again on the Constitution.”

The Far-Left Destroys A Rodeo Clown: Mockery Of King Barack Obama Not Allowed In America

Much of the liberal mainstream media is now in a complete meltdown because a rodeo clown wore a mask of President Obama and “disrespected” him during a show at the Missouri State Fair. Try as I might, there is no way to exaggerate how unhinged much of the media – and all the Democrat politicians in the area – have become over this one incident. 

Was it childish and in bad taste? Sure. Are there one million things much more pressing and threatening for the media and the Democrats to be concerned about? Commonsense and the American people would say “yes.” Craven partisan politics says “let’s pile on to accumulate brownie-points with the far-left Intelligentsia.” 

Hence, the calculated but selective meltdowns.

For instance, in the movie “Colombiana,” we are treated to a scene which takes place in the office of a weasel-like official from the U.S Government. Behind him is a large and glowing picture of President Obama. Suddenly, a would-be assassin’s bullet screams into the office, misses the weasel, and slams into a photo.

Not the glowing and commanding photo of President Obama of course, but rather a photo of George W. Bush with the weasel.

Transparent, sophomoric, and a unnecessary distraction from the plot, but oh, how the makers of this failed movie must have slapped themselves on the back with that deliberate insult to Bush while awaiting the accolades from the liberal-elites on the coasts.

After the movie came out, I don’t remember anyone from the mainstream media rushing to the defense of George W. Bush and demanding an apology from or a boycott of, Sony Pictures.

Maybe I don’t have a firm grasp of infantile insults, but surely an assassin’s bullet shattering a photo of George W. Bush (hint, hint) is worse than a rodeo clown wearing a mask of Barack Obama running from a bull while someone shouts “This bull’s gonna get ya, Obama. He’s gonna get ya.”

Apparently not. While all those responsible for “Colombiana” paid no price for their insult of Bush, the poor – in every sense of the word – rodeo clown has been banned for life by the Missouri State Fair. Banned for life with the real possibility of having his only livihood taken from him forever.

Beyond that, the president of the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association resigned under massive pressure because he served as the announcer during the rodeo clown’s “inappropriate, disrespectful, and embarrassing” performance.

You would think the rodeo clown potentially losing his career and the president of the association resigning would satisfy the bloodlust of the far-left. Not even close. Many also want to strip the State Fair of its tax money, while demanding full-scale investigations.

It's long been no secret to conservatives that the nation's "First Gay President", Barack Obama, has long taken blacks for granted during his term, despite receiving an overwhelming 95% of their support in the 2008 Presidential election. Obama, who gone out of his way to execute "rights" for illegal immigrants and homosexuals in this country time and time again during the past 3 years, has done little for his biggest fans, so much so that black people's socio-economic position has declined more so than any other voting bloc since he took office. And now, what with Obama's recent support of the unGodly, white, liberal elite's "gay marriage" initiative, some black folks in this country are not only taking on Obama's ignorance of their specific needs, but letting the world know why Black folks should not vote for Obama again in 2012:

A group of conservative black pastors are responding to President Barack Obama’s support of same-sex marriage with what they say will be a national campaign aimed at rallying black Americans to rethink their overwhelming support of the President, though the group’s leader is offering few specifics about the effort. 

The Rev. Williams Owens, who is president and founder of the Coalition of African-Americans Pastors and the leader of the campaign, has highlighted opposition to same-sex marriage among African-Americans. He calls this campaign “an effort to save the family.”

“The time has come for a broad-based assault against the powers that be that want to change our culture to one of men marrying men and women marrying women,” said Owens, in an interview Tuesday after the launch event at the National Press Club. “I am ashamed that the first black president chose this road, a disgraceful road.”

At the press conference, Owens was joined by five other black regional pastors and said there were 3,742 African-American pastors on board for the anti-Obama campaign.

When asked at the press conference for specifics about the campaign – funding, planned events and goals – Owens said only that the group’s first fundraiser will be on August 16 in Memphis, Tennessee. But Owens insisted that “we are going to go nationwide with our agenda just like the president has gone to Hollywood.”

In May, Obama announced on ABC News that he thought “same sex couples should be able to get married." The president had previously said that he opposed gay marriage, but said in May that his views were personal and did not represent a policy change.

In a fiery Tuesday press conference at the press club, Owens said Obama was taking the black vote for granted and decried the idea of similarities between the gay rights movement and the civil rights movement, an assertion made by the NAACP following Obama’s same-sex marriage support.

Megyn Kelly Panel Clashes Over Whether Obama Is Taking The Black Vote For Granted

Spurred by President Barack Obama‘s declining an invitation to speak at the NAACP convention (where Mitt Romney, Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder all speakers), Megyn Kelly invited her panel to discuss concern among some African Americans who wonder if the president is taking their vote for granted.


This is simply the political reality, David Webb argued. Obama ran “by drawing coalitions together,” subsets of the population who essentially got him elected. But “unless they have a defined interest they can use, they’re not that valuable,” Webb said bluntly. To give him credit, he added, Obama didn’t run on a black agenda.


Countering Webb, Tara Dowdell argued that it’s “insulting” to suggest that blacks voted for Obama because they were vested in his color. “To say that we can’t think for ourselves, that we can’ discern policies — that is a very insulting statement to make,” she said.


Kelly circled back to her central question: whether there’s a sense that Obama’s taking the black vote for granted. Webb argued it’s also insulting to look at a how a group has voted historically and ask whether there’s been a return on that investment. “We’re all Americans, we’re not black Americans, white Americans, Hispanic Americans,” he said.


Finally, Kelly asked whether it’s a mistake for Obama not to speak at the convention. Dowdell said it’s not because he does have members of his administration speaking there — before pivoting to unemployment among blacks (defending Obama’s policies), leading the segment to end with their arguing.

NAACP Has “No Comment” on Racist Remarks Leveled at Clarence Thomas

The NAACP won’t directly address the racism displayed by progressive protesters outside a summit hosted by billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch at the end of January in Palm Springs, Calif., but the organization did call for an end to all “vitriolic language.”


In response to The Daily Caller’s request for comment on a video showing progressive protesters calling for somebody to “string up” African American Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, or “send him back into the fields” or “cut off all his toes and feed them to him one-by-one,” NAACP spokesman Hilary Shelton pointed to the organization’s recent resolution calling for a “civil political discourse.”


“Last summer, the NAACP passed a resolution calling for a civil political discourse,” Shelton said in an e-mail to TheDC. “We continue to call on all Americans to abandon vitriolic language. It serves as a distraction from the real issues our society need to address and distorts the challenges we as Americans have to confront to make our nation greater still.”


Shelton would not, however, address the content of the video directly.

Conservative radio host Monica Crowley on Friday smacked down Newsweek's Eleanor Clift over racism in the Tea Party.


In the second segment of "The McLaughlin Group," the host addressed July's controversial resolution by the NAACP condemning so-called racist elements within the Tea Party.


Liberals Clift and Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune predictably supported the NAACP while bashing the conservative organization.


Crowley with the support of Pat Buchanan defended the Tea Party while calling the NAACP irrelevant.


With McLaughlin surprisingly taking Crowley and Buchanan's side, sparks flew in an oftentimes heated discussion (video follows with partial transcript and commentary):

Glenn Beck Destroys NAACP President's Malicious Suggestion of Racism Regarding Beck Rally Attendees

On Saturday, NewsBusters sister site Eyeblast.tv sent contributing editor Joe Schoffstall to see what exactly Al Sharpton’s protest rally was all about. While there, he was able to get an interview with NAACP President Ben Jealous regarding his thoughts on Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally. 

Jealous claimed that those at Restoring Honor wouldn’t applaud Dr. King's historic 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech.


Beck aired that Eyeblast video and promptly destroyed Jealous's argument by playing clips of the crowd enthusiastically cheering mentions of the late civil rights leader.

Lloyd Marcus: Glenn Beck More Legitimate Leader Than Al Sharpton, Ben Jealous

One of the most frequent criticisms of today’s “Restoring Honor” event is that, on the anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, gathering thousands of Americans to listen to Glenn Beck is disrespectful to the Civil Rights Movement. Not all African-Americans are offended, however, and CNN found one attendee, Lloyd Marcus, who actually believes Beck’s views are closer to Dr. King’s than many modern black civil rights leaders.


Donning a charming hat and enthusiastically defending Beck, Marcus argued that the rally had “nothing to do with race,” and that the only reason race is a factor is because Beck is a “white boy.” “If Beck were black, would we be having this conversation? No.” Since it’s not about race, Marcus clarified what he did believe it was about: “restoring honor… bringing God into the public square,” which made it, to him, a “tremendous tribute to Martin Luther King.”


Asked about comments he had made that some civil rights leaders had “sold their souls” and were thus less legitimate leaders than Beck, Marcus replied in the affirmative and named Al Sharpton and NAACP President Ben Jealous among them. Of Sharpton, he noted that “the fact that he’s even leading anything is amazing to me,” and called Jealous a “liar” for claiming there were racist elements to the Tea Party.

A bewhiskered Jon Stewart returned from his recent two week vacation and addressed the latest political news controversy: the scandal surrounding former USDA staffer Shirley Sherrod’s unfair dismissal after allegations of racist comments were revealed to be out of context. Stewart spared no one complicit in the whole clusterf*ck, save one unlikely participant: Internet provocateur Andrew Breitbart, the individual who first published the heavily edited video of Sherrod’s comments. Say what?

After railing against Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack for saying that Sherrod’s dismissal “should have been done in a more personal way, with far more thought and far less haste,” he then mocked the NAACP for claiming to have been “snookered” and the White House’s unique non-apology apology. Shockingly, however, Stewart appeared to give Andrew Breitbart a pass – not for his actions, per se, but rather his candor in admitting his agenda five months back:

Stewart: First of all, Fox News is too busy with their black panther hard-on to bother much with this. And Andrew Breitbart, the guy who leaked the edited tape, may be the most honest person in this entire story. This is what he said five months ago:

Bretibart (from file footage): I want to be in the history books saying I took down the institutional left.

Stewart: See he didn’t say “I want to be in the history books a aparagon of honesty,” he didn’t say “I would like to be in the Museum of Broadacsting, and to be known by children around the wold as Arnold B. Truthington of Accuracy Lane.”

No ,he said out loud “I want to bring down the institutional left.” So if you are on the institutional left, and you see the package from him, watch the whole (bleep) tape. How is that snookering?

While many in the media have lambasted Breitbart for his part in this story – and much of that has been deserved – Stewart makes a rather brave point. Breitbart has always been clear with his agenda, so no one should be shocked when it is effective. Lesson learned?

Damn, hate to admit iot but I'm starting to like Jon Stewart more and more.

Glenn Beck Mocks Keith Olbermann's "Special Comment" On Shirley Sherrod

Keith Olbermann temporarily came back from vacation last night to do a special ’special comment’ on the Shirley Sherrod firestorm that has overtaken the newscycle this week. In the ten-minute long segment Olbermann compared the Sherrod case to the 19th century Alfred Dreyfus treason case, called Fox News’ “perpetual smear machine” and singled out “the scum that is this assassin ‘Breitbart.” 

All of which may have been music to the ears of Olbermann fans and Fox News foes, but mainly just provided Glenn Beck with some extra good material with which to riff off on today’s radio show. And boy did he make the most of it. In his best Olbermann voice, between howls (and snorts) of laughter, Beck mocked the MSNBC anchor’s uber-serious (some might say pompous) tone: “I have sat at this desk for seven years and my ratings tell me I won’t be sitting here for very much longer. They’ve taken one of the worst guys on television and had him fill in for me and they’re already starting to hire a staff and graphics for his show.” And it’s all thanks to “that scoundrel…Brrrreeeiiiitbart.” Cue Dreyfus-inspired, pirate tongue roll.

Perhaps this is a good time to note that Beck, in his scathing reviews of both the White House and NAACP over their reaction to the Sherrod video, has barely mentioned Breitbart as a culpable party for releasing an edited clip in the first place and branding it as racist. And it any mention of it certainly didn’t make it into this jolly-fest.

Beck concludes: “Thank you for that history lesson, Keith, you are so far from a joke.”

Olbermann's a joke and so are his ratings.

Robert Gibbs Apologizes to Shirley Sherrod on Behalf of Obama Administration

As expected, the topic of the day at today’s White House briefing was Shirley Sherrod. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs fielded many questions on her ouster, apologizing on behalf of the administration for what he rightly called an “injustice.” In a dramatic turn, Jake Tapper informed Gibbs that Sherrod was watching the briefing, and Gibbs directed his apology to her. Tapper also pointed out that he (among others) had performed due diligence before acting on the story (unlike Secretary Tom Vilsack). See the remarkable exchange below.

Tapper also asked Gibbs if he agreed with critics who say the administration overreacted because they’re scared of conservative pundits, to which Gibbs replied, “No.” Responding to Chip Reid later in the briefing, Gibbs did not rule out the President speaking about this in the near future, and called this a “teachable moment.” I would bet that President Obama makes some sort of statement by the end of the day.

'Racist' NAACP Member Shirley Sherrod Resigns After Making Bigoted Remarks Against White Farmers

Used to be a time not too long ago when Black liberals loved to claim that thanks to longtime systematic oppression by whites they 'couldn't possibly be racist', but in a "post racial" era with a Black President, black libs are finding it harder and harder to get away with bigotry against whites. And that's really too bad:

Days after the NAACP clashed with Tea Party members over allegations of racism, a video has surfaced showing an Agriculture Department official regaling an NAACP audience with a story about how she withheld help to a white farmer facing bankruptcy -- video that now has forced the official to resign.

Shirley Sherrod, the department's Georgia director of Rural Development, is shown in the clip describing "the first time I was faced with having to help a white farmer save his farm." Sherrod, who is black, claimed the farmer took a long time trying to show he was "superior" to her. The audience laughed as she described how she determined his fate.

"He had to come to me for help. What he didn't know while he was taking all that time trying to show me he was superior to me was I was trying to decide just how much help I was going to give him," she said. "I was struggling with the fact that so many black people have lost their farmland and here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land -- so I didn't give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough."

The Agriculture Department announced Monday, shortly after FoxNews.com published its initial report on the video, that Sherrod had resigned.

"There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA, and I strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a written statement. "We have been working hard through the past 18 months to reverse the checkered civil rights history at the department and take the issue of fairness and equality very seriously.
