A biology professor charged with killing three of her colleagues at an Alabama university has been indicted in the 1986 shooting death of her brother in Massachusetts, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Amy Bishop, 45, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 18-year-old brother, Seth, Norfolk District Attorney William Keating said.

Authorities had originally ruled her brother's shooting an accident, but they reopened the case after Bishop was charged in February with gunning down six of her colleagues at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, killing three.

Keating said he did not understand why charges were never brought against Amy Bishop.

"I can't give you any explanations, I can't give you excuses, because there are none," he said.

Bishop had told police who investigated her brother's death that she accidentally shot him while trying to unload her father's 12-gauge shotgun in the family's Braintree home. Her mother, Judith, the only witness to the shooting, confirmed her daughter's account to police.

But after Bishop was charged in the Alabama shootings, authorities began reinvestigating Seth Bishop's death.

U.S. Rep. William Delahunt, who was then the Norfolk County district attorney, said that Braintree police never told anyone in his office that after Bishop shot her brother, she tried to commandeer a getaway car at gunpoint at a local car dealership, then refused to drop her gun until officers ordered her to do so repeatedly. Those events were described in Braintree police reports but not in a report written by a state police detective assigned to the district attorney's office.

Thanks to shoddy police work and a liberal politician Amy Bishop got away with murder, lived a normal life for 20-plus years and killed again. Starting with Bill Delahunt, everyone involved with letting Amy Bishop in '86 go needs to be jailed.

US Representative William Delahunt, who as a law enforcement official made crucial decisions in 1986 when Amy Bishop shot her brother to death in Braintree will break his silence today.

Delahunt, who was then the Norfolk district attorney, has not explained why he chose not to charge Bishop with a crime of any type after the shooting.

Delahunt will hold individual interviews with members of the news media today, his spokesman said.

Amy Bishop shot her younger brother, Seth, with a 12-gauge shotgun, a shooting witnessed by their mother. Delahunt's successor, William R. Keating, has said there was a "glaring omission'' in State Police reports prepared under the supervision of Delahunt and his former top assistant, John Kivlan.

Current Braintree Police Chief Paul Frazier has also criticized the investigation which found the shooting was an accident as inadequate.

Separately, Governor Deval Patrick has ordered State Police to conduct an internal inquiry into how its troopers handled the investigation.

The death of Seth Bishop was largely forgotten by the public until earlier this month when Amy Bishop allegedly shot and killed three colleagues at the University of Alabama. She has pleaded not guilty to murder charges and could face the death penalty.

This has Willie Horton written all over it. And if it's found that yet another liberal terrorist put a criminal's feelings ahead of protecting the American people, then Delahunt deserves the full wrath of the family and friends that Amy Bishop killed as well as law enforcement. Mind you, Delahunt's had more than a week to get his replies to this tragedy together so he's already looking lame.

The biology professor at the University of Alabama Huntsville charged with killing three colleagues shot her brother dead in 1986, police said Saturday.

Amy Bishop, a mother of four, allegedly opened fire at a biology department meeting Friday afternoon in Alabama. Investigators said she left her handgun in a bathroom and called her husband for a ride, The Huntsville Times reported.

She was charged with a single count of capital murder Saturday. Her husband, James Anderson, was detained with her Friday but has not been charged.

In Braintree, Mass., Police Chief Paul Frazier said at a Saturday news conference that Bishop, then 20, was arrested after her brother, Seth, 18, was shot dead in the family home, WCVB-TV, Boston, reported. He said Bishop was released without being charged by order of John Polio, the chief at the time, a decision that left police officers on duty at the time "frustrated."

All records of the shooting have disappeared, Frazier said, except for a brief note in the booking log.

Polio, now 86, said there was no coverup. He said the shooting was investigated by District Attorney William Delahunt, now a congressman, who determined it was accidental.

Unbelievable! William Delahunt is currently a congressman in liberal Massachusetts, He's in the midst of a tough fight for his seat with Republican Joseph D. Malone. Delahunt has a history of extremist leftwing positions, including attacks against the Iraq War and being soft on crime once getting a criminal out on furlough, who later killed someone. To think, Bishop supposedly killed 3 of her peers because she didn't get her tenure. This woman killed her own brother and was let back on the streets by a liberal AD whose now a congressman fighting for his job. This doesn't look good at all.
