Kirk Cameron's New Movie 'Unstoppable' Brings in $2 Million on Opening Night

Audiences have once again shown their loyalty and support for Kirk Cameron as the results are in from Unstoppable, which proves that audiences will head to the theater for quality projects, even on a weeknight.

The estimated $2 million earned at the box office (unaudited numbers via Rentrak) would rank the film first or second for Tuesday night, rivaling the Hugh Jackman/Jake Gyllenhaal vehicle Prisoners, which came in at $2.1 million.

On Tuesday, actor and producer Kirk Cameron debuted Unstoppable: A Live Event With Kirk Cameron in more than 700 select movie theaters across the country through NCM Fathom Events, in partnership with Provident Films.

More than 150,000 tickets were sold for Unstoppable, in which Cameron was linked in live to theaters from the Vines Center at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. Select locations added additional showings the same evening due to overwhelming demand.

Due to the demand and a large number of sold-out shows, an encore presentation is now scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. local time in more than 660 movie theaters. Select theaters are already sold out or near sold out in many markets, including Springfield, Mo.; Tulsa, Okla.; San Antonio, Texas; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Phoenix, Ariz.; and Bakersfield, Calif., among others. Ticket and theater information are available at unstoppablethemovie.com.

Interest from audiences and media outlets grew stronger after it was discovered that both Facebook and YouTube initially blocked the trailer for Unstoppable, labeling it “unsafe” and “abusive.” Cameron’s supporters immediately rallied online support, and the incidents were resolved.

Cameron calls Unstoppable his “most personal” project to date, as he invites audiences to join him on a powerful, visual journey to better understand the biggest doubt-raising question in faith: “Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering?”

Only in 2012 does a Christian man have to defend himself for daring to have Christian views:

On “The Today Show” this morning, actor Kirk Cameron told host Ann Curry that he stands by his past controversial comments about homosexuality. Earlier this month, on “Piers Morgan Tonight,” Cameron said he does not support gay marriage and thinks that homosexuality is “destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”


In his conversation with Curry today, Cameron said it would have been more newsworthy if he had said otherwise — and he has a very valid point:


“I was surprised, frankly, that people were surprised by the things that I’ve said,” he told host Ann Curry. “I have been consistent for 15 years as a Christian. I’m a Bible-believing Christian. What I would have thought was more newsworthy is if I had said something that contradicted the word of God, if I had contradicted my faith.”


Curry asked the actor if he hated homosexuals.


“Absolutely not,” he said. “I love all people, I hate no one…When you take a subject and reduce it to something like a four-second soundbite and a check mark on a ballot, I think that that’s inappropriate and insensitive. To edit it down to that, it certainly didn’t reflect my full heart on the matter.”


When you think about his comments in that light, any outrage over them does seem hyper-sensitive and strange. “Noted Christian believes what Christianity teaches.” How shocking!


What’s sad, though, is that it is a surprise to many non-Christians when they hear a Christian stand up for controversial Christian doctrines because so few famous Christians do. When actress and Christian Kristen Chenoweth, for example, appeared on “Piers Morgan Tonight” in the fall, she presented quite a contrast to Kirk Cameron — and, as I recall, created no stir whatsoever by voicing her support for gay marriage.


It’s also interesting that so few people seem to remember a couple important people who theoretically still don’t support gay marriage.


A quick note on Cameron’s comment that homosexuality is “destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization”: If you take that very literally, it’s actually pretty indisputable. The very first foundation of any civilization is existence itself. Human reproduction is necessary for human civilization. If our twenty-first century civilization consisted entirely of homosexuals who engaged only in homosexual behavior, civilization would rapidly cease to exist. From this literal perspective, homosexuality is no more destructive to civilization than contraception or abortion — but it is destructive. It serves no point to deny that.


Nor does it serve any point to deny what we all know from personal experience: Every single human being has certain destructive tendencies inside of him — the tendency to meanness, maybe, or to unkindness, to sloth, to gluttony, to thievery, to murder. What Christianity claims to offer or, more specifically, what Christ claimed to offer — and what many Christians joyfully attest to experiencing — is a grace-sustained way of overcoming those tendencies. In that offer is not condemnation, but an invitation to true freedom.

Of course, it's always shocking to immoral, social liberals, atheists and anyone who doesn't put God first in their life (much less people who don't have God in their lives at all) that a Christian man would come out and rightly say that homosexuality is "unnatural" (duh! just look at the way our bodies are made and the fact that homosexual sex is a behavioral choice that solely exists for self-pleasure) and "destructive to civilization". As social liberals continue to spread and impose their immoral views on others, Christians are often afraid to speak God's words publicly for fear of being branded a "bigot" by the anti-God Left. But Cameron, a Christian, successful actor, evangelical speaker, husband and father of six knows better and while he should've added that homosexuality is "sinful" during his interview with Piers Morgan, the fact that he went toe-to-toe with a militant member of the liberal press and stood up for what he believed in should garner him much praise in the Christian conservative community:

Former teen heartthrob turned conservative opinionator Kirk Cameron visited Piers Morgan earlier in the week and talked faith and politics, though Morgan had to work to get some answers. When he did get answers on social issues, however, Cameron’s declaration that homosexuality was “ultimately destructive to so many foundations of civilization” left him somewhat shocked.


Cameron noted that he watched many people on cable news “to try to give me a clear picture to know as a father what to teach our kids,” and to that end, Morgan started quizzing him on social issues. “I feel like I just got imported into the Christine O’Donnell interview you did in August,” he replied, clearly uncomfortable, but eased up when Morgan explained that his question stemmed from a desire to know him as a father better. So he gave his position on gay marriage.


“Marriage was designed by God a long time ago… it’s almost as old as dirt. I would never attempt to redefine marriage.” When asked if he considered homosexuality a sin, he answered, “I think its unnatural, I think it’s detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many foundations of civilization.” Morgan didn’t question it, but followed up asking what Cameron would do if his child were gay. “Just because you feel that way doesn’t mean you have to act on everything you feel,” he told Morgan. He footnoted his statements with the fact that “I believe all of us are sinful,” so the word meant only a human status. Morgan asked him also about abortion, which Cameron opposed in all circumstances, even in rape, saying that killing “a little creature made in God’s image” would be “compounding the problem.”


Cameron’s comments on homosexuality offended many, including GLAAD, which issued a statement and has put together a petition against Cameron:


“In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character,” said Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD. “Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation.”

Kirk Cameron Is Making Immoral Liberals Angry

Everyone knows that Hollywood is dominated by liberal actors, many of whom love to use their fame to indoctrinate the public with their personal views on everything from politics to values to life in general. But it's all in the name of tolerance, of course. Yet, let a Christian, conservative actor speak his mind and suddenly there's OUTRAGE!, much less ridicule:

He's used to getting love letters and high-fives as a former teen heartthrob, but onetime Growing Pains actor Kirk Cameron isn't letting the mockery and criticism dissuade him from promoting his controversial project to dispute evolutionary theory.

"Atheism has been on the rise for years now, and the Bible of the atheists is The Origin of Species," Cameron tells PEOPLE. "We have a situation in our country where young people are entering college with a belief in God and exiting with that faith being stripped and shredded. What we want to do is have student make an informed, educated decision before they chuck their faith."

So what is the plan that Cameron, 38, has hatched to supposedly save the souls of freshmen around the country?

He and other creationists have created thousands of editions of Charles Darwin's landmark work explaining evolutionary theory, with a 50-page introduction that picks apart aspects of Darwin's work and try to link it to everything from Nazi eugenics to the scientist's alleged "disdain for women."
