Despite Jenny McCarthy's Vaccination Lies and Fear-Mongering, ABC Hires Her To Co-Host "The View"

On February 28, 1998, a British physician named Andrew Wakefield published a paper in The Lancet that purported to identify a link between the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine and the appearance of autism in children. The results provoked a widespread backlash against vaccines, forcing the medical community to spend years attempting to debunk his false claims. Eventually, it was revealed that Wakefield had fabricated his research as part of a scheme that promised him millions of dollars. Wakefield suffered a dramatic public downfall—his medical license stripped, his paper retracted from publication—but the damage was done. His propaganda had led to decreased immunization rates and an outbreak of measles in London.

Wakefield’s falsified claims remain at the core of a stubbornly popular anti-vaccination movement. To this day, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, many people believe that vaccines are the principal cause of autistic spectrum disorders.

One of the most prominent promoters of this falsehood is actress Jenny McCarthy, who was recently named as Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s replacement on ABC’s hit daytime talk-show, The View. Once she’s on air, it will be difficult to prevent her from advocating for the anti-vaccine movement. And the mere act of hiring her would seem to credit her as a reliable source.

In 2007, McCarthy debuted her views on the national stage when she appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss autism, which is growing at alarming rates and continues to baffle medical researchers. McCarthy was convinced that vaccines gave her son autism and seizures. In addition to a gluten-free diet, aromatherapies, B-12 shots and vitamins, she also tried chelation therapy, which is meant to remove toxic substances from the body. Her son, she claimed, was “cured.”

Within the first few minutes of the interview, McCarthy cited as reasons for her success a “little voice” and her “mommy instincts,” all while denigrating several doctors and EMTs.

Oprah Winfrey’s decision to let McCarthy act as an expert, to dismiss science with alchemy, without asking any tough questions, was unconscionable. The same could be said of the producers of Larry King Live and Good Morning America, both of which hosted McCarthy soon after. Even though they at least asked questions about her views, Larry King had her debate a doctor, as though her disproven ideas should be given the same equivalence as those of a medical expert.

In fact, McCarthy’s beliefs—that vaccines and mercury cause autism, that a good diet cures autism and that “diagnosticians and pediatricians have made a career out of telling parents autism is a hopeless condition”—have been roundly dismissed and discredited by doctors and scientists, who insist that her claims are based on no scientific data or research. McCarthy wasn’t deterred. “The University of Google,” she said to Oprah, “is where I got my degree from.”

Let’s be clear: there is no connection between vaccines and autism.

Despite the evidence, it is easy to understand why the parent of an autistic child—in fear and confusion and desperation—might find McCarthy’s claims enticing. These are parents at their most vulnerable and McCarthy, though perhaps well intentioned, has preyed on them. This fear-mongering is incredibly dangerous, especially when a quarter of parents trust the information provided by celebrities about the safety of vaccines. A movement borne out of Wakefield’s discredited research, animated by misinformation, and promoted by people like McCarthy has fed an anti-vaccine frenzy, leading to a huge spike in cases of whooping cough in communities across the United States, especially in Washington State, which, in 2012, saw its worst epidemic in seventy years.

We see the same dangerous nonsense playing out with the HPV vaccine, a major breakthrough that can prevent cervical cancer and, it was recently found, throat cancer in men and women. Unfortunately, parents studying at McCarthy’s alma mater, the University of Google, are absorbing misinformation and refusing to vaccinate their kids.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Leaving "The View" To Co-Host "Fox & Friends"

Smart decision esp. considering the rumors that slutty wench and serial liar Jenny McCarthy is close to joining "The View":

View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is making the jump from network to cable, with the announcement today that she will be leaving ABC’s The View to co-host Fox & Friends.

In Fox’s press release, Hasselbeck says, “I have been a long-time fan of Fox & Friends and am excited to be joining their team in September as it is an honor to call the FOX News Channel my new television home.”

The press release also includes Ailes welcoming Hasselbeck and praising her for her “warm and engaging personality,” and a statement from Barbara Walters saying, “We will miss her and wish her everything good.”

There were rumors back in March that Hasselbeck would be leaving The View this year. Walters denied that Hasselbeck was being pushed out for her conservative views, or at all, for that matter, only to be rebutted by a report a week later saying that Hasselbeck is “toast.” Another rumor sprung up that CNN head Jeff Zucker was interested in bringing Hasselbeck on CNN right after leaving ABC. Hasselbeck will officially start on the couch with Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade in mid-September.

Meanwhile, current Fox & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson will be leaving the morning show to anchor her own daytime program, debuting sometime this fall.

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is proving he’s not afraid of anyone on his media tour, and after escaping some recent comedic and serious interviews virtually unscathed, he was now ready to enter the lion’s den known as The View. The most interesting moment came when Barbara Walters may have caught Rumsfeld a little off-guard, as she twice asked Rumsfeld if he wanted to apologize to the families of soldiers who died during the Iraq war.


Yet Rumsfeld did not think an apology was appropriate, instead repeating his belief that no soldier died in vain. In a more humorous exchange, conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck suggested that “the First Lady may have had a stronger stance on trans fats than Obama did on Gaddafi,” but the media savvy Rumsfeld, possibly knowing his audience, did not take the bait to bash Obama and surprisingly ended up agreeing with liberal co-host Joy Behar (to much audience amusement) in defending Obama’s efforts at private diplomacy.

Bill O’Reilly doesn’t care what Whoopi Goldberg or Joy Behar think of him, as long as the folks have got his back. After the ladies of The View continued to talk about the issue of whether saying Muslims– and not Muslim extremists– attacked the United States on 9/11, O’Reilly rebutted them in his “Talking Points Memo,” taking on Goldberg, Behar, Barbara Walters, and even Rosie O’Donnell.


“In case you came back from Easter Island…” O’Reilly quipped before retelling the story of his fight on The View. The topic of muslim extremism against America has suddenly become a much touchier topic, it seems, than it had been in a long time, beginning with the proposed Islamic cultural center in the same neighborhood as Ground Zero. “It has entered the fabric of America,” he noted, and laid out the arguments of the View girls. In particular, there were two arguments he seemed vehemently to oppose: Goldberg’s that saying muslims attacked 9/11 would be to implicate Muhammad Ali and Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and O’Donnell’s comment that O’Reilly does nothing but “incite hatred.”

“If Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t think there’s a Muslim problem, she should ask Barack Obama,” he retorted, while going out of his way to find a vintage Rosie O’Donnell View clip saying radical Christianity is as dangerous as radical Islam to point out he may not be alone in what she accuses him of doing. “I have had enough of the political correct nonsense, and I condemn the far left fanatics who label those who disagree with them ‘bigots,’” he declared, while backing up his argument in part with the fact that people he ran into this weekend agreed with him. “Wherever I went this weekend, people were high-fiving me,” he said. “Are all these people bigots? Do they all hate Kareem Abdul Jabbar?”

Joy Behar And Whoopi Goldberg Walk Off "The View" After Sparring With Bill O’Reilly

Bill O’Reilly was a guest on The View today to promote his new Pinheads and Patriots book and the discussion got really, really heated over the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” debate. At one point co-host Whoopi Goldberg exclaimed to O’Reilly “that is such bullsh*t” before she and Joy Behar walked off the set in protest, before coming back to finish the show.

Granted, Behar and Goldberg looked like pouty children who didn't get their way by walking off, but O'Reilly should've added "extremists" too in the first place.

Democrat Governor Ed Rendell: Obama On "The View" Like Going On Jerry Springer

Tomorrow President Obama will make history by becoming the first sitting president to appear on a daytime talk show. This is perhaps less exciting than it might have been were Obama not such a ubiquitous presence in the media. However considering it comes on the heels of the Shirley Sherrod debacle (perhaps, intentionally so) Obama’s appearance on The View will likely provide at least some good soundbites.

But is it a good idea? Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell does not think so…to put it mildly. Here is how he described the appearance on Morning Joe yesterday. [Watch below].

“I think the president should be accessible, should answer questions that aren’t pre-screened, but I think there should be a little bit of dignity to the presidency…“I wouldn’t put him on Jerry Springer either, it is different a little bit. But I think the president of the United States has to go on serious shows.”

Obama To Take Timeout From Running Country And Appear On "The View"

President Obama will become the first sitting U.S. president to visit a daytime TV talk show when he tapes an interview Wednesday with ABC's "The View." 

Obama is appearing as part of the show's "Red, White & View" series, which has featured prominent American politicians and discussions on current political issues. Vice President Joe Biden made a guest appearance in April. 

The president will take the hot seat among the show's five female hosts, who represent a range of backgrounds and political views, at a time when his administration grapples with challenges from the economy to the BP oil spill. 

Obama's approval ratings have hit new lows, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll. Nearly six in 10 Americans say they lack confidence in the president to make the right decisions for the country, and a majority doubt his handling of the economy.

The President of the United States should be too busy to appear on a talk show, but then, maybe if Barry continues to pursue a television career, he'll have less time to screw up the country.

Joy Behar: Prayer 'Takes The Place Of Thinking'

On the June 22 episode of "The View," co-host Joy Behar criticized prayer, saying it "takes the place of logical thinking, then I think that's dangerous."

Behar's attack on prayer came as she defended comedian Janeane Garofalo, who during a June 16 appearance on Behar's Headline News show called prayer "anti-intellectual" in criticizing President Obama's reference to prayer during his speech about the Gulf oil spill. 

Behar said Garofalo should have said prayer was "un-intellectual," not "anti-intellectual."

"Faith is something that you feel," Behar said. "Thinking is something that you do with your brain. It's different."

Behar's criticism of prayer riled co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who challenged the attack.

BEHAR: When prayer takes the place of logical thinking, then I think it's dangerous.

            HASSELBECK: Prayer's not illogical.

            BEHAR: No. But it takes the place of thinking.

HASSELBECK: No it doesn't. That's a complete bigoted statement to say that when I'm praying, I'm not thinking.

            BEHAR: How dare you say that to me! Excuse me!

You get the feeling sometimes that liberals really hate Christians. Of course, when it comes to the 'tolerant' Left that couldn't possibly be true.

Perez Hilton Loses Advertising After Posting Miley Cyrus Upskirt Photo

ABC has pulled its ads from gossip blogger Perez Hilton's Web site, PerezHilton.com, after he caught legal flack for posting upskirt photos of 17-year-old Disney star Miley Cyrus. However, several big-name companies still have ads running on the snarky blogger's site. 

Amid speculation that Hilton may be slapped with kiddie-porn charges over the lurid photos, ABC has removed its ads for "The View" from the popular gossip site. But other advertisers appear to be sticking by Hilton. TV Land still had a full-page background promotion and two smaller ads on PerezHilton.com, and Apple iTunes and Microsoft's search engine Bing still had advertisements up as of Wednesday afternoon.

The drama started Monday, when Hilton posted a link to a photo of Cyrus getting out of a car in a tight white dress - and apparently, no underwear. Outrage erupted over the photo, with some calling the image "child pornography" since Cyrus is legally a minor. Hilton quickly removed the picture, but has brushed off the incident as a "fake" controversy.

It's odd that Microsoft, which owns Bing, would opt to keep advertising. It has recently been touting its own crusade against kiddie-porn.

Rosie O'Donnell's 'Wife' Kelli Leaves Her

Rosie O'Donnell has confirmed to Lifeline Live that she and partner Kelli Carpenter, 42, are on the rocks.

In an interview at her Nyack, N.Y., compound Tuesday, USA TODAY's Ann Oldenburg asked if the two had split -- she has been hinting at it in her blog -- and O'Donnell didn't deny it, saying, "We're a family. We will remain a family forever. And we are working on our issues."

O'Donnell, 47, wouldn't go into detail about whether Carpenter had moved out of their Nyack home and into Manhattan, as the National Enquirer reported in August. (She was not around during the interview.)

"We're a family, we remain a family and we're working on the issues," O'Donnell reiterated, noting that there are four children whose well-being comes before anything. The couple married in San Francisco in 2004 and have three adopted children -- Parker, 14, Chelsea, 12 and Blake, 9, as well as Vivienne ("Vivi"), 6, whom Carpenter carried.

First of all, they're not "married". California didn't allow "gay marriage" back in 2004. Secondly, I don't care if it's a man, woman or a dog, the idea anything making love to Rosie O'Donnell is not only sickening, but frightening. Lastly, you just know Elisabeth Hasselbeck is just loving this news.

Rosie O'Donnell can't seem to stop talking about her ugly departure from "The View," and the famous feud she had with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

An eyewitness tells FOX411 exclusively that the former "The View" co-host slammed her former show and called her former co-host a vulgarism that starts with a "t" and rhymes with "swat," just four days before Hasselbeck gave birth to her third child.

It all happened on August 5 during a stand-up routine as part of O'Donnell's "Girls' Night Out Tour" with singer Cyndi Lauper. First, Rosie cracked jokes about "The View," illiciting roars of laughter from the audience at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island, N.Y.

"Rosie started out by asking the audience, 'What was that show I was on?'" an audience member tells FOX411. "Then, instead of saying, 'The View,' she called it 'The Screw You.' She continued by calling Elisabeth Hasselbeck, 'Elizabeth Half-a-brain.' Then she jumped to another topic."

But Rosie wasn't done. Not even close.

The audience member says she went back to her "The View" experience. "Rosie said when she first met Elisabeth, she thought she would love her, because they're both Christians," the eyewitness says. "Then she stopped and said, 'But then she turned on me.' Then Rosie called her a 't--t.' O'Donnell then moved on to a different subject, saying she really didn't want to start a new feud, or restart an old one."

A rep for Hasselbeck declined to comment.

Appearing on the March 16 edition of "The View," The Daily Beast columnist told the gals of "The View" that she was annoyed with Ingraham for recently making a joke about her weight.

McCain: Why are we so obsessed with weight? Why? And I know specifically for me, this is so, you know I'm a pop culture junkie, but when Tyra Banks went on her show in her bathing suit and said, "Kiss my fat ass," that's what I feel like right now. I'm like, "kiss my fat ass!"

Although Miss McCain last week took a swipe at conservative author Ann Coulter as "offensive, radical, insulting and confusing all at the same time," she admits that "at this point" she has "more respect" for Coulter "because at least Coulter didn’t come back at me with heartless, substance-less attacks about my weight."

Message to Meghan McCain: put on your thinking cap for a minute. Please. Do you really think that the same media that virtually ignored your dad, while literally genuflecting in their love and appreciation for his opponent during last year's presidential campaign, suddenly cares what you think? Meghan, the only reason the liberal media is interested in Republicans is when they're either trying to put them down, when they're making fools of themselves or when they're dissing other Republicans. The latter being the same ol' game of divide and conquer scheme that just worked on Michael Steele. Don't fall into the same trap. You have issues with Laura Ingraham talking about your weight? Fine. But don't go on a partisan show like "The View" (where 4 of the 5 co-hosts are leftwing loons) to make your point, instead take your ire straight to the source herself: Ingraham. Barbara Walters and co. may smile in your face and scream a few "Go girls!"' at you, pretending that they like you, but behind your back they're laughing because hardly anything makes liberals happier than to see conservatives fighting each other.
