Bill O'Reilly Catches Al Sharpton In Another Deceptive Video Edit: 'They Don't Come Lower'

Bill O’Reilly kicked off his show Monday night clarifying his statements from last week about Nelson Mandela being a great man, but also a communist. In particular, O’Reilly took on MSNBC hosts Al Sharpton and Karen Finney for what he called a gross distortion of his words.

O’Reilly said it should be honestly acknowledged Mandela has “Marxist leanings,” but wasn’t exactly that surprised that Sharpton, a “dishonest purveyor of information,” would distort what he said. He hit Sharpton for taking his comments out of context, and took on Finney for accusing O’Reilly of not actually going to the neighborhood of Soweto. O’Reilly showed a picture of him in Soweto and demanded Finney apologize.

But he didn’t hold his breath for the “flat-out deceivers” of MSNBC, charging that the network is too “afraid” of Sharpton to discipline him when he does stuff like this. O’Reilly argued he only brought up Mandela’s ideology to make the point that you need to honor good people “even when you disagree with their philosophy” and you shouldn’t allow people like Sharpton to “exploit situations for their own gain.”

"Adriana", Face of Obamacare, Never Signed Up For Obamacare

The smiling woman who was once the face of the Affordable Care Act's website has come out of the shadows to stand up to the "cyberbullying" she says she suffered after the law's flawed kickoff. 

Speaking exclusively to ABC News, Adriana, who asked that only her first name be used, said she was speaking out now to defend herself after weeks of enduring online lampooning. 

"They have nothing else to do but hide behind the computer. They're cyberbullying," Adriana told ABC News' Amy Robach.

"I'm here to stand up for myself and defend myself and let people know the truth," she said. 

On Oct. 1, 2013, when the ACA's website launched to enroll Americans in health insurance through federally run exchanges, it was Adriana's face that greeted them. 

Dubbed the "enigmatic Mona Lisa of health care," her face was soon mocked, Photoshoped, altered. She became the subject of late-night jokes, partisan hatred and intense speculation. 

The saga of the photo started innocuously enough. Adriana responded to an email from someone at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the agency responsible for the Affordable Care Act's rollout, about having photos of her and her family taken for free in exchange for allowing the photos to be used to market the new health care law. She was never paid. 

She learned over the summer that her photo would be on healthcare.gov's main page, but she didn't realize it would become so closely associated with the problems of the glitchy website. 

"I mean, I don't know why people should hate me because it's just a photo. I didn't design the website. I didn't make it fail, so I don't think they should have any reasons to hate me," Adriana told ABC News. 

Speculation swirled that Adriana might not be a legal resident of the United States, and therefore not even eligible for the health care exchanges. Adriana said she is a wife and mother who lives in Maryland with her 21-month-old son and husband of six and a half years. Her husband is a U.S. citizen, as is his her son.

Adriana, who is Colombian, said she has lived legally in the U.S. for more than six years, is currently a permanent resident and is applying for citizenship. 

Though she is eligible for healthcare through the ACA, Adriana says she hasn't signed up for it, and is neither in favor nor against it.

Jay Leno Tears Into Obama with Shutdown-Themed Monologue

At the end of a long week of government shutdown stalemate, Jay Leno opened the Tonight Show Friday night by tearing into Congress and President Obama in particular for failing to come to an agreement that would get federal employees working again. Below are some highlights from Leno’s brutal monologue.

“This government shutdown thing is getting old. The national parks are closed, the museums are closed, federal agencies are closed. But our borders? They’re wide open, don’t worry about that.”

“China is really upset about the government shutdown. Well sure, they’ve never had one of their businesses fail before.”

“President Obama has officially cancelled his trip to Asia. He said he didn’t want to be in Indonesia not doing anything to solve the crisis, when he could be in Washington not doing anything to solve the crisis.”

“Actually, it’s the perfect time for him to go to Asia. I mean, what better time to leave Joe Biden in charge of the country than during a a shutdown? He couldn’t do any more damage. right?”

“The shutdown is so bad, Nancy Pelosi may be forced to keep this face for another year. That’s how bad it is.”

In addition to the standard monologue jokes, Leno also took on the MSNBC reporter who had so much trouble signing up for Obamacare online. But in his version of the video, things went bit further with Mara Schiavocampo taking out her angry directly on the machine itself.

And now for something completely different: A Seattle-based civilian “superhero” ran into some trouble when he was arrested for unleashing a can of pepper spray into a rowdy crowd outside a nightclub. We’re not using the term superhero sarcastically here either. The man, who refers to himself as “Phoenix Jones,” dons a black and gold superhero suit as he goes out to fight and/or commit crimes, and pursues justice with the help of a sidekick, “The Ghost.” He was thanked for all his trouble, by the way, by being repeatedly hit over the head with a shoe by a woman who did not take kindly to someone showering her friends with pepper spray.


Fox News’ Megyn Kelly invited the masked crime-fighter onto her show for an edition of “Kelly’s Court.” And he seems like a really nice guy! (Like, really nice. Amirightladies?) Kelly, thankfully, asked the big question on everyone’s mind: “Why are you wearing that costume?”


It’s the costume that I wear when I go out and fight crime. It’s my super suit. It’s bulletproof, it’s stab resistant. I guess I found it’s pretty shoe resistant.


Duh, Megyn!


He further explained that something needs to be done to cull crime and that, instead of donning a ski mask and potentially being mistaken for a criminal himself, he decided to use “an image that meant something to me” — that of the iconic American superhero — to go out and make things right.


Kelly brought on her legal panel to weigh in on whether or not Jones should be charged with assault for his use of pepper spray and vigilante justice.

Producer David Zucker Releases Barbara Boxer Bashing-Ad: "Call Me Senator"

A well-known Hollywood producer and director has cut an ad against Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) riffing on when the senator chided an Army brigadier general last year for calling her "ma'am."


David Zucker, the director of the 1980 comedy classic "Airplane!" who has worked on myriad films including the "Naked Gun" and "Scary Movie" franchises, directed the "Call Me Senator" spot for Right Change, a 527 and 501(c)4 organization "committed to supporting policies and candidates dedicated to fiscal responsibility and a strong national security for the United States, while upholding the principles of freedom, competitiveness and entrepreneurial spirit of the American people."


The spot goofs on Boxer's testy exchange with Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh at a June 2009 hearing of the Committee on Environment and Public Works. "You know, do me a favor," Boxer told the officer, who was using military protocol to address those higher on the chain of command by "sir" or "ma'am." "Could say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?'"


"Yes, ma'am," Walsh responded. "It's just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it, yes, thank you," Boxer continued. "Yes, senator," he responded.

Greg Gutfeld Takes On Liberal Smear Merchant Media Matters

It’s been only a few weeks since Media Matters Senior Fellow Eric Boehlert enacted a mutual detente with arch frenemy Andrew Breitbart, but Boehlert hasn’t shied away from making new foes, the loudest of which is Fox News’ Red Eye host (and future Muslim gay bar proprietor) Greg Gutfeld. After allegedly tweeting “EPIC FAIL” at him, Gutfeld dedicated a special Greg-a-logue (and Robot Theater!) to his new rival.


Gutfeld’s special comment didn’t only attack Boehlert, though he did take the hardest punches. It also took on the New Hampshire politicos wishing for Sarah Palin’s death online for the same thing: using social networking sites like political soapboxes. Two notes on that point: (a) ranting about adults talking like children on social networking sites and mentioning Sarah Palin without pointing out that she may be the absolutely worst offender? and (b) there is an argument to be made that, if you’re on Twitter anyway, there’s nothing wrong with using internet speak. There is no hard and fast rule for political discourse on Twitter or Facebook, and plenty of strong arguments to be made for not holding what is said on such platforms to the same standard as what one is paid to write in a publication.


That said, it’s all quite hilarious:

Have we turned into a nation of 12 year old girls, pining for the Jonas Brothers, planning sleepovers and fighting over padded bras?… It’s not just Facebook. Seriously, how can a grown man feel compelled to write “EPIC FAIL” on a tweet? Yeah, I’m talking to you Eric Boehlert of Media Matters. You’ve gone gray: time to stop braiding the hair of your Barbie Doll.

SNL Mocks Media for Ignoring Political Affairs While Reveling In Tiger Woods'

"Saturday Night Live" opened yesterday with a skit mocking both the sexual indiscretions of politicians and how little attention is given them by the media. John Edwards, John Ensign, and Mark Sanford gathered together to protest that their affairs barely registered despite the fact that one of them engaged in bribery, one of them abandoned his state in a time of need, and one of them had a love child with a campaign worker.

These stories, while reported by major news outlets, disappeared quickly and without much follow-up. All of these men still have their jobs. Tiger Woods on the other hand, a man with no public responsibilities, has been the subject of intense media scrutiny over several weeks and has indefinitely resigned from golf.

Leave it to the comedians to put things in the proper perspective.
