Even Michael Moore Thinks ‘Obamacare Is Awful’

Michael Moore marked the start of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate Wednesday with a blistering op-ed in The New York Times in which he admits something he says “many liberals” have been too scared to say out loud before now: “Obamacare is awful.” 

“That is the dirty little secret many liberals have avoided saying out loud for fear of aiding the president’s enemies,” Moore writes, “at a time when the ideal of universal health care needed all the support it could get.” But now that the law has been implemented, Moore evidently feels free to speak out against it’s major flaw.

He blames Obamacare’s “rocky start” on one central fact:

The Affordable Care Act is a pro-insurance-industry plan implemented by a president who knew in his heart that a single-payer, Medicare-for-all model was the true way to go. When right-wing critics “expose” the fact that President Obama endorsed a single-payer system before 2004, they’re actually telling the truth.

At the same time, Moore calls Obamacare a “godsend” for people who were in danger of losing their coverage under the old system. But rather than “take a victory lap,” Moore urges progressives to keep fighting for “what we deserve: universal quality health care.” He looked ahead to 2017 when Vermont plans to implement a single-payer system that has the potential to “change everything.”

“Obamacare can’t be fixed by its namesake,” he writes. “It’s up to us to make it happen.”

Arguably, it was Moore’s 2007 documentary Sicko, which compared America’s health care systems to more cost effective systems around the world, that was responsible for jump-starting the national conversation about this issue in the first place.

Leave it to an obnoxious, smug, white liberal to go there (and get away with it)....but this time he's right on the money:

Controversial filmmaker Michael Moore will appear Tuesday night on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight to discuss gun control and last week’s Aurora, Colo. shooting that left 12 dead and dozens of other people injured. In a preview clip of the interview, Moore attacked President Barack Obama for his refusal to push for stricter gun control immediately after the massacre.

Moore noted that during the post-shooting address in Ft. Myers, Florida, President Obama mentioned his daughters Sasha and Malia as a way to show empathy with the victims’ loved ones, asking: “What if it were them?” And then implied that if the Obama daughters actually were killed in the shooting spree, the president would be more aggressive for gun control. 

“Well… what if it were them?” Moore asked. “What if were them last Thursday night? Would you stand at the microphone the next day and say, ‘I feel your pain, and’ — this is what he said — ‘the existing gun laws are enough.’ Is that really what you’d say, Mr. President? I don’t think so.”

“We have to see these young people who were killed as our children,” Moore continued before going into a rant about how the United Kingdom and Canada have universal healthcare because their mentality is that “we have to take care of each other.” If legislators actually viewed the victims as their own children, Moore said, then “we would have some change in this country and politicians would respond quickly.”

“I am not going to come on another damn TV show after the next one of these shootings,” Moore told Morgan, as his voice began to rise. “I haven’t done it for ten years… but I’m sick of this. 

“I refuse to live in a country like this,” he concluded, “[but] I’m not leaving.”

Michael Moore Grabs ‘Punk’ Reporter, Growls ‘You Lie!’ Over Wealth Questions

Just days after being confronted by a conservative blogger over his supposed net worth, filmmaker Michael Moore took similar questions from a local CBS reporter at the Occupy Denver protest, with markedly different results. Rather than ignore CBS-4 reporter Evrod Cassimy, Moore engaged him. When Cassimy brought up Moore’s “rumored” $50 million net worth, though, Moore called him “punk media,” pulled him close, and growled, “You lie!”


The confrontation made for much better video than the previous one, and Moore initially handled the reporter’s questions well, admitting, ““I do very well,” and adding, “Because I do well, I want taxes raised on people who do well, including mine.”


When Cassimy pressed Moore about his specific net worth, however, Moore became visibly angry. He told the reporter, “I don’t have $50 million,” and Cassimy gave Moore an opening, saying, “That’s what it’s rumored you are worth.”


“Well, really” Moore said, “Is that what you do is sell rumors?”


“We’re asking you for the truth,” Cassimy replied.


Moore then put his hand on the reporter’s shoulder, shaking him as he said, “You’re just punk media is all you are.”


“You lie,” he continued, a slight growl in his voice. “You lie to people. Stop lying to people. Stop lying.”


Mr. Cassimy left himself open for Moore’s criticism by citing “rumors,” rather than “reports,” but Michael Moore really ought to do better at engaging this question. He’s got compelling answers, and even though the premise itself is silly, confronting it head on is a surer way to gain converts than scenes like this, which make it appear as though critics of Moore’s wealth have got his number.


There are lots of mega-bucks celebrities who have shown up to support the Occupy protests, and recent polls show that most millionaires support raising taxes on millionaires. You can, apparently, be rich and believe in fairness, simultaneously. Moore can, and does, also argue that he takes his earnings and puts them back into making more films. His wealth, then, is a tool to combat wealth inequality.

Michael Moore Is A Hypocrite: "Supports" Wisconsin Union Workers, But Doesn't Use Union Workers For Films Or Offer Health Insurance

With the spotlight on Wisconsin's union thugs rampaging across the state, one wonders why it took propaganda filmmaker Michael Moore so long to put himself in front of the news cameras to take some of their publicity for himself. But this weekend, Moore finally glommed onto the cameras making himself out to be a great supporter of the union's efforts in the Badger State. Once again, though, Moore proves to be a hypocrite. It was Moore, after all, that excluded using union workers in one of his recent films. Some supporter of unions!


Filmmaker Moore attend a recent Wisconsin pro-union rally and regaled the crowd with an address saying, "Madison is only the beginning."


"We're going to do this together. Don't give up. Please don't give up," Moore told the protesters, who have swarmed the Capitol every day for close to three weeks.


Oh, he's a great supporter, right? But let us drift back only a few years to 2009 when he was filming his last bomb, Capitalism: A Love Story. During that production we found that Moore didn't hire union stagehands (the IATSE) for his film.


According to his agent, Ari Emanuel, Moore claimed that he used non-union labor because the stagehands union doesn't "respect documentary filmmakers" or some such thing.


It made the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) mad enough that they refused all the free tickets Moore tried to offer them when the movie debuted. Yet here are these teachers in Wisconsin now falling all over themselves because Moore came publicity seeking in front of them. For shame that their institutional memory is so shallow, eh?


That wasn't the only time that Moore made a film snubbing union workers, either. Back in 2000 Moore directed a music video for the band Rage Against The Machine and non-union workers were also used in that production.

Say It Ain’t So: Will Rape Allegation Furor Be Keith Olbermann’s ‘Shoeless Joe’ Moment?

On Tuesday’s Countdown, host Keith Olbermann and guest Michael Moore sparked widespread outrage over their dismissive treatment of rape allegations against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. An online protest ensued, and as Michael Moore ignored pleas for a correction, Olbermann tried to fend off criticism on Twitter. When he was unwilling to respond to legitimate questions regarding his handling of the allegations, Olbermann announced that he was quitting Twitter until the “frenzy” died down. If Sady Doyle, the woman who started the protest that forced him off Twitter, is any indication, he could be waiting a long time, and taking serious damage in the process.


The primary reason that people like Glenn Beck are somewhat immune to protests like this is that they’re generally carried out by people who already aren’t watching. Beck may say things that enrage people, but he’s not enraging the people in his audience. Fox News Channel can assess the effect of advertiser boycotts through the prism of his enormous audience, and make the calculation that the benefit outweighs the cost.


In Olbermann’s case, though, he has picked a fight with people who would normally be watching him declare spreaders of misinformation “Worst Person in the World.” Sady Doyle, the woman who started the #MooreAndMe hashtag, describes her sense of betrayal at being blocked by Olbermann thusly:

There’s no way to put a number on it, but it stands to reason that a substantial number of the #MooreAndMe protesters are also Countdown viewers, or potential viewers. Just as handling this properly could have been a big win for Olbermann, botching it so badly could hurt in ways he never imagined.


In her piece for Salon today (which bears reading in full), Doyle brings another key difference between Olbermann and Beck into sharp relief. Speaking about some of the misguided reactions she has gotten on Twitter, Doyle says:


One of the chief objections, from fans of Moore and Olbermann, is that Assange isn’t being charged with rape. “He was accused ONLY of consense.sex w/o a condom,” wrote Twitter user MariahWestwind. “u r all fucking retarded, really fucking dumb……….it was consensual sex and his condom broke which is a crime in sweden u fucking retards,” wrote a commenter on my blog, “Ralph,” who was sadly deleted. This is demonstrably wrong. It’s untrue. But Ralph, Mariah, and all the others have reason to believe it. Because they got the information from the news. They got it from Michael Moore. And they got it from Keith Olbermann.

Keith Olbermann Outs Rape Victims, Protects Serial Rapist Julian Assange

When he's not smearing women in general, he's protecting rapists while outing rape victims all under the guise liberal fascism. It's who he is, too bad the George Soros-run MSNBC just doesn't seem to care:

On Tuesday’s Countdown, host Keith Olbermann and guest Michael Moore sparked widespread outrage over their dismissive treatment of rape allegations against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. While some of the segment is open to interpretation, Moore made a clear factual error when he said that Assange only stands accused of having his condom break during consensual sex.


First some background on the initial controversy as I reported it last night:


Filmmaker Michael Moore is in hot water over comments he made during Tuesday night’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann. In discussing rape allegations against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, Moore appeared to dismiss the accusations as “hooey” (although he was actually referring to what he views as the use of the allegations as a pretext to silence Assange), and repeated the false claim that Assange is only accused of having a condom break during consensual sex.


When I asked Olbermann to clarify via Twitter, he responded by attacking me personally, then offered the kind of non-apology that he would normally fricassee had it come from a conservative.


To be clear, there is a compelling case that Olbermann and Moore were engaging in despicable rape apologia, a case with which I agree. Tigerbeatdown.com, the website that started the Twitter campaign to shame Moore into apologizing, makes that case more eloquently than I ever could.


However, much of that case relies sufficiently on matters of interpretation and (completely fair) logical extensions to make it impractical to argue 140 characters at a time. As Olbermann’s Twitter feed attests, the format lends itself to deflection and selective response.


This is why I chose to focus simply on Moore’s assertion, unchallenged by Olbermann, that the allegations against Assange consist merely of consensual sex during which the condom broke. Guilt or innocence aside, the substance of the allegations are verifiable, and have been reported extensively. In fairness to Olbermann, though, I allowed that the “broken condom” lie has been so oft-repeated in the media that perhaps he was unaware it was false. Here’s how our Twitter exchange began:

There may have been people in the #MooreAndMe thread who ascribed things to Olbermann that he didn’t actually say, but I was certainly not one of them. To be clear, I point this out not out of some sense of personal injury (my record speaks for itself), but to demonstrate the lengths to which Olbermann will go to avoid admitting he was wrong.


The fact that Olbermann engaged the issue at all is minimally to his credit, at least relative to Michael Moore’s complete silence on Twitter. However, his “apology” left much to be desired: (condensed from 5 separate tweets)


Rape has touched my family, directly and savagely, and if anybody thinks I have addressed it without full sensitivity, then that assessment is the one that counts, and I apologize. But these accusations that I “revealed” an accuser’s identity by retweeting Bianca Jagger’s link, or that I ’shamed’ an accuser by asking a question about the prosecution of a man governments are trying to bury, or that I do not ‘understand’ charges that have yet to be presented in their final form, reflect exactly the kind of rushing to judgment of which I’m accused, and merit the same kind of apology I have just given.


Olbermann did, indeed, retweet a link that contained the identities of Assange’s accusers, a fact of which I was previously unaware. Whether the info was already “out there” or not, this act (even if inadvertant) abetted the very tactic that keeps many women from reporting rapes at all. Olbermann may be technically innocent of “outing” the alleged victims, but he certainly played a part.


Leaving aside the “sorry you’re so sensitive” tone of the apology, which is (minimally) open to interpretation, it fails to address the substance of the complaints against him. Obviously, no decent person is immune to the horror of sexual abuse, at least anyone who knows six or more women. In the macro, Olbermann and Moore stand accused of allowing their zeal to defend Assange to override that empathy.

Michael Moore To Democrats: “You Can’t Keep Blaming [Bush]” For National Woes

One of the Old Guard has begun to change his tune: Michael Moore is calling for a moratorium on blaming President Bush. Well, sort of. On last night’s Real Time, Moore told his co-panelists and host Bill Maher that blaming the Bush administration for America’s problems will not make them go away, nor, two years later, is it a valuable excuse.


Debating the pitfalls of the Clinton administration (which Maher argued turned the Democrats into “a second corporatist party” during Clinton’s second term), Moore made the point that he strongly believed a similar turn during Obama’s possible second term would be extremely destructive to the party. In response, Rep. Joe Sestak, who was on the panel, mentioned the damage done under the Bush administration. Moore refused to accept that as a sufficient excuse for the delay in progress:


“No one’s forgetting the fact that this frat boy totally destroyed this country economically, our standing around the world– we all get that. But it’s two years later, and you can’t keep blaming the people who created the mess. Yes, we’ll never stop being pissed at Bush for what he did. But right now we’ve got to fix this, and you guys– the Democrats and Obama– have to be the ones that do it. If you do it– if you actually get in there and do it– you’ll have everybody behind you all the way.”


Hearing as staunch a detractor of the Bush administration sound the horn for moving on from the first eight years of the century is a new development on the left, and perhaps in part due to passing the halfway point of the midterm elections. It will be interesting to see how many public figures on the left adopt Moore’s suggestions.

Michael Moore is destined to really hate capitalism, for his new movie "Capitalism: A Love Story" appears to have totally flopped at the box office.

This comes despite all the gushing and fawning by Moore-loving media members prior to the film's October 2nd release.

Take heart, fellow capitalists, for according to Deadline Hollywood this could be a flop of epic proportions:

Michael Moore's purposefully controversial and politically polarizing documentary Capitalism: A Love Story was distributed by Overture Films and wound up in 7th place. It went wide into 962 theaters this weekend after opening on September 23rd in a limited release of 4 theaters. The pic about the financial crisis made $1.6M Friday and $2M Saturday (+33%) for a $5M weekend and $5.4M cume. Just for comparison purposes: Moore's most recent Sicko did $4.4 mil its opening weekend from only 441 theaters (and that was with him guesting on The Tonight Show and announcing he'd been subpoenaed by the Bush administration for the health care documentary). And his Fahrenheit 9/11 did $23.9M its opening weekend from 868 venues.) So, as much as the left loves Moore, and the right detests him, and he always uses the ensuing controversy to self-promote, the money angle is only what interests me. The fact is that Capitalism: A Love Story looks like its domestic total will fail to crack $20M and end up his worst performing film since his Oscar-winner Bowling For Columbine in 2002.

Michael Moore Snubs Union Workers In Making 'Capitalism: A Love Story'

Michael Moore used some non-union crewmembers when union workers were available in the production of his latest film "Capitalism: A Love Story," a documentary that argues the capitalist system allows for greedy corporations to exploit working-class people.

"For all of the different jobs on the movie that could have used union labor, he used union labor, except for one job, the stagehands, represented by IATSE," said a labor source unauthorized to talk about Moore's decision not to hire members of The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.

In a statement issued to ABCNews.com, Moore's agent, Ari Emanuel, said the filmmaker wished the union includ apied more documentary crew people -- but he did not deny that IATSE members were snubbed in favor of non-union employees.

Michael Moore is just another Hollywood hypocrite making millions while condemning the same system that's responsible for him being rich. Reminds you of all those limousine liberals who espouse eco-lifestyles. If Moore were to put his money where his mouth is, tickets to "Capitalism: A Love Story" would be free. But hypocritical does not mean stupid.

It's a movie genre you don't hear much about in Hollywood: the right-wing comedy. For that matter, it's not much of a genre at all.

But it's exactly what conservative producer-director-screenwriter David Zucker created with "An American Carol." The gag-filled liberal lampoon stars Kevin Farley, brother of the late Chris Farley, as a scruffy Michael Moore clone named Michael Malone, an infamous documentary filmmaker leading a slapstick campaign to abolish the Fourth of July.

"I didn't tell anyone, not even my brother John, I had this part," said Farley, sitting in a conference room chair across from Zucker at Vivendi Entertainment, the film's distributor. "We wanted to keep it close to the vest. Meanwhile, I'm growing a beard and getting fatter. I had just gone through a divorce, and my brother was like, 'You need help!'"

Granted, I'm not too fond of making Michael Moore's ego any bigger than it already is, but I've seen some clips of this movie and it does look to be pretty funny (and Kesley Grammer co-stars, you knew he was a conservative?). Michael Moore Hopes Hurricane Gustavo Comes Down On GOP Convention

You would think that this asswipe would've learn his lesson from '04 (when his anti-Bushfest Fahrenheit 9/11 helped President Bush get a second term by galvanizing GOP voters to come out and beat John Kerry), but he's too stupid for that:

He said what? Political hothead Michael Moore apparently thinks God is a Democrat - and a vicious one at that.

The confrontational filmmaker put his foot in his mouth on a Friday night appearance on Keith Olbermann's "Countdown" on MSNBC when he made a quip about Hurricane Gustav, which has been bearing down on New Orleans.

"I was just thinking this Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven," Moore said. "To have it planned at the same time. I mean, yes, it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for day one of the Republican convention." A spokesman for John McCain called the remark "terrible"

Michael Moore, Hypocrite, Warns Dems On How They Can Lose Election

Washington, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) Democrats may lose the most winnable election in American history, warned filmmaker Michael Moore today in the website carrying his name.

For years, nearly every poll has shown that American people are synchronized with the platform of the Democratic Party. Issues like the pro-environment, pro-women´s rights and pro-choice, have popular backing.

They don´t like war, they want the minimum wage raised and a single-payer, universal health-care system, adds Moore about Democrat-voters affinity.

But Democrats appear to be professional losers, says Moore who believes they even lose when they win. The director of Oscar-winning “Bowling for Columbine” and "Fahrenheit 9/11" warns that Democrats and liberals and supporters of Barack Obama are now saying they are worried that John McCain has a good chance of winning.

This from the man who once announced that "there is no terrorist threat", voted for Ralph Nader in 2000 and whose propagandist flick "F9/11" led to a revolt by GOP voters that helped defeat John Kerry in 2004. No, it's not Moore's fault Dems lost the last two presidential elections, no sir, he had nothing to do with it. What an arrogant prick.

Charlton Heston R.I.P.

Actor Charlton Heston died at Beverly Hills home at the age of 84 Saturday, his family said.

Heston, known for portrayals of larger than life figure including Moses and Ben Hur, was suffering the late stages of Alzheimer's Disease.

Heston's wife of 64 years, Lydia, was by his side at the time of his death, according to the family statement.

Heston is survived by a son, a daughter and three grandchildren.

"We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor," the family said. "He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved."

Like many others I'll mostly remember Charlton Heston for what a great actor he was, especially his classic role as Moses in the epic "Ten Commandments" flick, which I first saw when I was like 7 or 8. But unfortunately others (mostly on the Left) will recall Heston for his role as leader of the NRA, which made him an enemy for life to many of the loons. In turn, many of libs were more than happy to see Heston get bullied by the unscrupulous Michael Moore in the ruthless, propaganda-fest "Bowling For Columbine". Heston (who was suffering from Alzheimer's at the time) sat down for a 15-minute interview (which was later heavily edited for the flick) with Moore that made him look incoherent and borderline racist--the interview was so bad that Heston gets up and walks away in a confused manner. Yeah, as George Clooney (who once joked that Heston "deserved to have Alzheimer's") can certainly attest to, revenge is sweet when you're a left-wing lunatic.

But Moore and the rest of the morally bankrupt Left wouldn't dare mention the fact that Heston, a longtime political activist, was one of the first Hollywood actors to publicly oppose racial segregation, or that he marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or that Heston helped to organize boycotts of Hollywood restaurants that wouldn't serve blacks during the Civil rights era. Indeed, in his later years Heston, a former Democrat, would later join the GOP and take on roles that even rattled me (such as his opposition to affirmative action), but that still doesn't take away from the fact he was an icon both on and off the big screen.
