Corrupt Democrat Ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison

Time and again, Kwame Kilpatrick's exceptional oratory skills rallied Detroit voters to his side despite his frequent troubles as mayor.

But all his swagger and professions of love for family, God and the city failed to sway a judge Tuesday, who sent Kilpatrick to prison for up to five years for violating his probation stemming from his conviction for lying under oath about an affair with his chief of staff.

The former mayor's rehabilitation "clearly ... has failed," Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David Groner said before announcing his sentence.

"Frankly, your continued attempt to cast yourself as the victim, your lack of forthrightness, your lack of contriteness and your lack of humility serve to affirm that you have not learned your lesson," the judge said.

The criticism was some of the harshest leveled at the one-time Hip-Hop mayor and darling of Michigan's Democratic Party, who early on in his political career displayed the bravado and eloquence to talk his way out of politically thorny situations.

In this terrible economy, it's good to know one man was able to find work.

Of course, the fact that Kwame Kilpatrick got the job a week after he left jail, in a field in which he has no experience, at a six-figure wage, doesn't make people happy.

And the fact that his new employer, Compuware, laid off 250 people the same week it hired him, doesn't make people happy.

And the fact that Kilpatrick, Detroit's former mayor, has been proven a liar, cost his city millions of dollars, was convicted of felony perjury, and has a sense of entitlement that would shame Cleopatra, doesn't make people happy.

And let's be clear -- it shouldn't. This guy does not deserve "a break." This guy does not deserve the front of the line. This guy is lucky he did only 99 days behind bars, he owes this city $1 million, and at the very least, he should endure the same cold splash that tens of thousands of his former constituents are enduring these days -- unemployed and doing without.

This stinks to high heaven. Here we are in a huge economic downturn and this guy, who proved to be nothing but scum as a mayor, spits in all our faces by landing a sweetheart deal mere days after he got out the joint. Compuware should be ashamed of themselves. And is it worth even mentioning that if Kilpatrick was a disgraced former Republican politician, what would be the reaction to this news from the liberal press? Not to mention Al Sharpton and all his minions would be in Dallas right now making noise and protesting till kingdom come.

Jailed Democrat Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick To Resign

Following in the miserable tradition of Ray Nagin, William Jeferrson, Willie Herenton, Sharpe James and Marion Barry, another black Democrat mayor of a big city has been brought down in utter disgrace:

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was bounced from office Thursday in a deal with prosecutors that will send him to jail and put an end to the sex scandal that embarrassed this chronically struggling city and preoccupied its government for months.

The 38-year-old "Hip-Hop Mayor" who brought energy and excitement to City Hall when he took office in 2002 pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and will get four months behind bars.

The Democrat also will pay the city $1 million in restitution, lose his license to practice law, and cannot run for any elected office for five years. His resignation will take effect in two weeks.

Kilpatrick was charged earlier this year with perjury and other offenses for denying he and his chief of staff had an affair. The scandal broke wide open in January with the release of a trove of lusty text messages between the two of them that appeared to contradict the mayor.

"I lied under oath," the beefy former college lineman said in court Thursday. His wife, Carlita, watched from the second row, occasionally closing her eyes.

Why does the black liberal community continue to turn a blind eye to sleazy, corrupt, arrogant, incompetent leaders who happen to be black? Because results be damned as long as the leader looks like one of them. Indeed, we're learning the same thing with Barack Obama, a man who rarely speaks on issues negatively effecting the black community, yet is still being supported by over 90% of the black voting electorate. When will they ever learn?

The failing liberal press once again displays why it's a cesspool of one-sided journalism:

What journalistic crime has been committed this time? How about, selective memory when it comes to a Democrat running afoul of the law.

Picture this if you will. The Mayor of a major U.S. city has been ordered to jail for violating bond. The MSM reports on the situation, but fails to mention the Mayor's party affiliation anywhere in the article. This makes it a foregone conclusion - the Mayor is a Democrat.

While it is common place for the MSM to avoid mentioning the word Democrat in a headline involving someone being charged, indicted, or sent off to jail, it is taking it a giant step further when they fail to mention it all together.

Contrast this with the recent headlines surrounding the indictment of Ted Stevens. The AP headline read as follows:

The liberal press refuses to identify his party, but following in the recent steps of David Paterson and Eliot Spitzer, Kwame Kilpatrick, a Democrat politician and mayor of Detroit, who cheated on his wife and lied about it, is now in serious trouble for his adulterer ways:

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and an ex-aide were charged Monday with perjury and obstruction of justice after prosecutors said sexually explicit text messages between the two contradicted their sworn court testimony.

Kilpatrick defiantly declared his innocence just an hour after the charges were announced.

"This has been a very flawed process from the beginning," said Kilpatrick at a press conference Monday. "I look forward to complete exoneration."

Kilpatrick, who is married, has been snarled in a well-publicized sex scandal since January after The Detroit Free Press reported he exchanged romantic text messages with his then-chief of staff, Christine Beatty.

The paper reported in January that in an analysis of nearly 14,000 text messages on Beatty's city-issued pager, it found some from 2002 and 2003 that indicated the two were having a romantic affair.

The newspaper report contradicted testimony Kilpatrick gave last August in a court case brought by police officers against the mayor and the city of Detroit alleging the mayor retaliated against the officers for their role in investigating his office. Critics alleged that Kilpatrick committed perjury in the case and called for his resignation.

If you're the wife of a current Democratic politician you should be looking for a good lawyer because vows mean nothing to these guys.

Democratic Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Plays Race Card In Lieu of Sex Scandal

Eliot Spitzer wasn't the first Democratic politician to be involved in a sex scandal this year. Self-styled "Hip-Hop Mayor" from Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, has created his own mess of lies and deception mixed in with a little adultery. And now as cries grow for him to resign, like a typical liberal Kilpatrick is playing the victim and blaming it all on his race:

You might think the resignation of New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer would put more pressure on Detroit's embattled mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, to do the same. But Kilpatrick, seven weeks into his own text sex scandal, shows no signs of giving up the fight. In fact, with a prosecutor contemplating perjury charges and his city council in revolt, Kilpatrick has chosen the nuclear option in this deeply divided city. At the end of an otherwise routine state-of-the-city speech Tuesday night, Kilpatrick went off on a racially explosive tirade against his critics and the media.

"In the past 30 days I've been called a n----- more than any time in my entire life," he told a cheering, invitation-only crowd of 1,500 at Detroit's gilded Orchestra Hall. "In the past three days I've received more death threats than I have in my entire administration. I've heard these words, but I've never heard people say them about my wife and children. I have to say this, because it's very personal to me." He stole a glance at his wife and twin 12-year-old sons standing at attention in a luxury box above the stage. "I don't believe a Nielsen rating is worth the life of my children or your children. This unethical, illegal lynch-mob mentality has to stop."

An African-American man might be making a serious run at the White House, but here in Motown the old-school politics of race still define this struggling city. Census data show this is the most racially divided urban center in America, with 81 percent of the city black and a roughly equal percentage of the surrounding suburbs white. Politicians on both sides of Detroit's cultural fault line—the 8 Mile Road made famous by Eminem—have stoked racial fears for decades in order to get elected and stay in power. Kilpatrick, a Democrat, is no stranger to this tactic. There was plenty of racial rhetoric in his bruising 2005 re-election campaign.

From Marion Barry to Ray Nagin to Kwame Kilpatrick, when the chips are down due to their own ineptitude, the finger will never be pointed at themselves.
