Joe Lieberman To Retire 2012

I didn't agree with all of his policies, but for a man who stood on principle (instead of ideology) and often had the courage to take on liberal terrorism while he was a Democrat, Senator Lieberman will always have my respect:

Sen. Joe Lieberman, the independent from Connecticut, is planning to announce Wednesday that he will not seek re-election, according to two knowledgeable Democratic sources.


The move by the former Democratic vice presidential candidate could add even more murkiness to the party's hopes of hanging on to its slim majority in the Senate in the 2012 election, especially coming on the heels of Sen. Kent Conrad's, D-North Dakota, that he will not seek re-election at the end of this term.


North Dakota's other Senate seat fell into Republican hands in the midterm election after Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan announced his retirement. Rep. Earl Pomeroy, Democrat-North Dakota, meanwhile, lost the state's only at-large House seat in November, so Conrad's seat will be in major jeopardy.


While Lieberman is an independent he has aligned himself with the Democratic leadership for organizational purposes, helping to boost the Democratic majority on issues like health reform. But he has also frustrated party leaders on other big issues, leading one Democratic source to say privately that it's a "sigh of relief" for Democrats if Lieberman does step aside because the party would have a chance to elect someone who sides with them more often.


The race for his seat is wide open. Earlier on Tuesday former Connecticut secretary of state Susan Bysiewicz announced that she is planning to get into the 2012 Democratic primary for Lieberman's seat regardless of what the incumbent does. Reps. Chris Murphy and Joe Courtney are also considering Senate bids, while various Republicans are mulling their options.


A Lieberman aide stressed that the Senator made his own decision some time ago and it was not influenced by Bysiewicz's announcement Tuesday or any other maneuvering.

"To me, New York Times has committed at least an act of bad citizenship. And whether they've committed a crime, I think that bears very intensive inquiry by the Justice Department," said Lieberman, a Connecticut independent who caucuses with the Democrats.


The lawmaker told Fox News that he wonders why WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has not been charged with treason.


“I don’t understand why that hasn’t happened yet. It sure looks to me on the facts that Mr. Assange and WikiLeaks have. He ought to be indicted and then we can ask the authorities in England to extradite him to the United States.


“I think it’s the most serious violation of the Espionage Act in our history, and the consequences globally that have occurred," he said.

Open and candid, it's no wonder Joe Lieberman ranks up there as one of our best politicians.

Democratic Opposition To Obama Giving Terrorists Miranda Rights Grows

Congressional Democrats are increasingly concerned about the President's plan to bring Guantanamo detainees to the United States for trial, as a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced legislation Tuesday to block it.

Eighteen senators, including two Democrats and one Independent, unveiled a bill Tuesday to withhold funding the President requested to try terror suspects in civilian courts.

"It's an unusual thing we're doing here," said Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-CT. "We are trying to use Congress' power of the purse to stop these trials."

The move comes a day after the President requested in his budget a boost in homeland security funding to help pay for the transfer and trials of detainees on U.S. soil.

One of the Democratic co-sponsors is Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, who is facing a tough re-election battle this year.

When asked by CNN if the White House is being tone deaf in asking Democrats like her to support bringing Guantanamo detainees to the U.S., Lincoln replied: "I think I would be tone deaf if I didn't respond to the people who I believe are very concerned about how this is happening, and if I wasn't speaking out and speaking my mind. It's why I'm here today."

"I think its important for the administration to hopefully hear from those of us who do have grave concerns," said Lincoln.

A similar Senate measure got 55 votes in November, not enough to meet a 60 vote threshold to pass.

Schumer's catching major heat in New York City for Barry's stupidity here, his approval ratings are dropping and he's the mentor to junior senator Kristen Gillibrand, who may or may not be facing a tough race for Billary's old seat seat soon from Harold Ford come November. Joe Lieberman To Endorse Scott Brown?!?

Joe Lieberman may be close to announcing his suppport for Massachusetts Senate Candidate Scott Brown. Citing the historical Healthcare Reform Bill as the main issue attracting Lieberman to endorse Brown's Campaign. Scott Brown is vehemently opposed to the proposed Healthcare Legislation.

Joe Lieberman has run against many of his Democratic Counterparts in the Senate over the so called Obamacare Health Care Reform Bill. Back in December, with the public option dead, Democrats revived an old proposal to expand Medicare, but Lieberman voted no. That plan was considered by a small percentage of liberals as a decent alternative to the public option leaving Lieberman at odds with Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid.

Speculation is such that if Lieberman were to endorse Scott Brown over the coming weekend that would most likely seal the defeat of Martha Coakley for Senate.

Latest Polling has Brown leading Coakley by a margin of 1 to 4 points. Momentum has shifted dramaticllay in the past week providing an intense national media attention. At stake is Helathcare Reform as well as further momentum to provide possible further shocking Election Results in this falls mid term elections.

Damn, this would be a major blow to Coakley and yet another kick in the rear to all the crazy loons on the Left who smeared Lieberman out of the Democrat party a few years ago. But hey, he's an independent now so he's beholden to no one. Go Joe!

Obama Links Al Qaeda To Flight Terror Plot

President Obama on Saturday linked the man accused in a botched Christmas Day airline bombing to an al Qaeda affiliate based in Yemen.

The president pledged that everyone involved in the attack would be held accountable. He also highlighted his administration's attempts to crack down on extremist enclaves in Yemen, and reiterated his longstanding promise to "disrupt, dismantle and defeat" al Qaeda.

Obama has been criticized by some political opponents for not responding more aggressively to a botched December 25 attempt to blow up a Northwest Airlines passenger jet en route from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Detroit, Michigan.

Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab is accused of trying to ignite explosives smuggled aboard the plane in his underwear. Obama confirmed Saturday that AbdulMutallab, 23, recently traveled to Yemen and "it appears that he joined an affiliate of al Qaeda."

Nice of Barry to get around acknowledging something that Al Qaeda told us already like a week ago. Good move too by Barry to do something Joe Lieberman passionately suggested already: target militants in Yemen. Barry and his leftists minions may have a hard time acknowledging it, but now only are we at war, but Barry's gonna have to get his George W. Bush-groove on in order to continue keeping Americans safe.

Tensions stemming from the prolonged debate on health care flared Thursday afternoon when Democratic Sen. Al Franken, who was the presiding officer, refused to let Sen. Joe Lieberman finish his speech on the senate floor.

Lieberman, the bane of the Democratic Party's liberal base because of his opposition to creating a public option and expanding Medicare, was speaking about preserving the Medicare trust fund.

After his allotted ten minutes, Lieberman - an independent from Connecticut who sits with the Democratic caucus - asked for more time to finish his speech, a request customarily granted in the venerable chamber.

"In my capacity as the senator from Minnesota, I object," replied
Franken.

"Really?" Lieberman asked, seeming surprised by the rejection. "Okay," he continued with a chuckle, "I don't take it personally."

Immediately following the exchange, Lieberman's closest Republican ally, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, came to his defense.

"I must say that I don't know what's happening here in this body, but I think its wrong," said McCain. "I have been around here for 20-some years. [This is] the first time I have ever seen a member denied an extra minute or two to finish his remarks."

It's so noteworthy to see how liberals are reacting to this exchange, but then why not remind us all of the spoiled, whiny brats conservatives have long known them to be? When the Left doesn't get their way, this is what they succumb to: smear campaigns, idiot petitions, name-calling, attacking family members, petty and churlish behavior, etc. all to score a point with their lunatic base. Hamsher went on to accuse the Lieberman couple of conspiring to sink health care reform in order to line their own pockets.

Hamsher accuses Mrs. Lieberman using "her association with her husband the Senator ... in order to secure these lucrative positions and advance the interests of her clients" at a lobbying firm for which she is a consultant. This contention, Hamsher claims, is "unquestionable," though she offers no evidence to support the accusation, other than speculation about the couple's income.

Health care reform isn't the No. 1 priority in this country, jobs are. Indeed, take a minute to dig beyond the liberal propaganda and you'll find that the U.S. already has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. But if you're on the Left, the fact that more and more Americans are having a hard time putting food their tables matters little when you have a radically leftist agenda to fulfill. Joe Lieberman, Al Gore's choice for running mate only 9 years ago, is now being demonized by the Left for daring to look out for Americans all the while refusing to stay quiet and just jump on board with Barry's radical vision of a liberal utopia. The Lieberman family's financial ties to the health industry are no secret, yet their full extent remains unknown. During her husband's 2006 reelection campaign, Hadassah Lieberman's employment as a "senior counselor" to Hill & Knowlton, one of the world’s biggest lobbying firms, briefly erupted as an issue, especially because the clients she served were in the controversial pharmaceutical and insurance sectors. Exactly what she did for those clients has never been disclosed.

Of course if a host on FOX did this sort of thing the Obama administration wouldn't just be whining about him, every host on MSNBC would go nuclear. Because that's just the kind of hypocrisy that goes on over at MSNBC, any wonder no one watches them.

Joe Lieberman Will Filibuster Public Option

Independent Sen. Joseph Lieberman said Tuesday he would join a Republican filibuster to block the final vote on any health care bill that has a government-run public health insurance option.

Lieberman's vote is crucial to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's hopes of passing a health care bill that includes the controversial public option. Reid announced Monday he would send to the full Senate a health care bill that has a public option but also allows states to opt out of that provision.

Lieberman said he would support a vote to launch debate on the health care bill but would oppose a motion to end debate if the public option remains in the legislation. Democrats would need 60 votes in the 100-member Senate to close debate on the bill, and the Democratic caucus has 60 members, including Lieberman.

"I can't see a way in which I can vote for cloture on any bill that contained a creation of a government-operated and run insurance company," the Connecticut senator said. "It's just asking for trouble."

Good for Joe Lieberman, who has shown the kind courage necessary to challenge liberal terrorism in the Democratic party that Americans need. Healthcare reform is the most overrated and unnecessary issue to down the pike since...well everything Obama and his Leftwing militants have been attempting to bully on Americans. Now that other moderate Dems will have no choice but to join Lieberman it'll be interesting to see how Harry Reid deals with this latest bit of health reform drama.

Obama Threatens To Veto Democrats Over Bailout Dough

Tested before taking power, President-elect Barack Obama privately delivered a pre-inauguration veto threat to fellow Democrats on Tuesday, saying they would not deny him use of the remaining $350 billion in federal bailout funds.

Obama coupled his threat with a promise to revise elements of the original bailout program that have drawn widespread criticism, pledging that billions will go toward helping homeowners facing foreclosure. Several Democrats said his commitments, to be made in writing, would be enough to prevent an embarrassing pre-inauguration drubbing for the president-elect when the Senate votes this week.

"This will be the first vote that President-elect Obama is asking us for. I'll be shocked and I'll be really disappointed if he doesn't get it," said Sen. Joseph Lieberman, an independent Democrat from Connecticut.

"This is a new beginning."

Behind closed doors, Obama also urged lawmakers to act quickly on the massive economic stimulus measure that his aides have been negotiating with congressional officials. The legislation will blend federal spending with tax cuts, and could reach $1 trillion in size, a measure of the nation's economic woes.

Put aside the quick fix for a minute. If Barack really wants a vote of confidence in his first 100 days as Prez, how about BO taking some time to consider making a clean sweep of the Senate Banking and House Financial Services committees, whose co-heads, Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd, were the chief architects of this financial mess we're in? Now that'd be some "change" I'd like to see.

Harry Reid Does Right By Joe Lieberman

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Sunday he's still trying to keep Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman within the Democratic caucus despite anger over Lieberman's support of Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

While he has opposed Democratic efforts to end the war in Iraq, "Joe Lieberman votes with me a lot more than a lot of my senators," Reid told CNN's "Late Edition."

"Joe Lieberman is not some right-wing nutcase," he said. "Joe Lieberman is one of the most progressive people ever to come from the state of Connecticut."

Lieberman, a Democrat-turned-independent, broke with the party over the war in Iraq and ran as an independent after losing the party's nomination in 2006. Since then, he has been the 51st vote that kept the Senate in Democratic hands.

Lieberman also was Al Gore's running mate on the 2000 Democratic ticket.

But this year, he was a fixture on the campaign trail with McCain -- and now that Democrats have gained at least six seats in the chamber, Reid is under pressure from many Democrats to punish Lieberman for harsh criticism of Sen. Barack Obama in a speech at the Republican convention.

The Democrat party just won the presidency by a landslide and made gains in both their control of the House and Senate, yet it's angry, bitter, extreme leftist wing wants to expel Joe Lieberman from the Democrat caucus all because Lieberman dared to follow his principles on the war in Iraq by supporting John McCain. Forget that even as an Independent Joe Lieberman votes with Democrats 90% of the time. Forget that Lieberman has long supported "progressive" issues such as abortion and gay rights, liberals still want retribution in the form of casting Joe Lieberman aside. So all the while President-elect Barack Obama screams "change", his own constituents wish to continue poisoning the Democrat party with their bitter partisanship. In the interests of what's best for the party Harry Reid must make sure Joe Lieberman stays where he is.

Senate Republicans blocked a global warming bill that would have required major reductions in greenhouse gases Friday, pushing debate over the world's biggest environmental concern to next year for a new Congress and president.

Democratic leaders fell a dozen votes short of getting the 60 needed to end a Republican filibuster on the measure and bring the bill up for a vote, prompting Majority Leader Harry Reid to pull the legislation from consideration.

The Senate debate focused on bitter disagreement over the expected economic costs of putting a price on carbon dioxide, the leading greenhouse gas that comes from burning fossil fuels.

Opponents said it would lead to higher energy costs.

The 48-36 vote fell short of a majority, but Democrats produced letters from six senators -- including presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain -- saying they would have voted for the measure had they been there.

U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, an independent who supports Democrats in Congress despite his backing of the Iraq war, said on Thursday he was not ruling out endorsing a Republican in the White House race.

The 2000 Democratic vice presidential candidate said he also wants to see if an independent enters the crowded field of 2008 presidential hopefuls.

"I'm going to chose whichever candidate that I think will do the best job for our country, regardless of the party affiliation of that candidate," the Connecticut senator told reporters in the state capital Hartford.

"I'm not going to get involved until after both parties have their presumptive nominees and, frankly, to see if there is a strong independent candidate," he said.

Lieberman was re-elected to a fourth Senate term in November as an independent in Connecticut after his support for the Iraq war cost him the backing of the Democratic Party. He continues to caucus with Democrats in the Senate.

Many Democrats last year abandoned Lieberman in favor of his Democratic rival, Ned Lamont, a millionaire and political outsider who ran on an anti-Iraq-war platform focused on public discontent over President George W. Bush's policies.

I say that Lieberman should vote whichever way his heart desires. But I can understand the struggle within: the party he loves has left him, dismissing with a wave all that he's achieved during his many years in the Senate as the Democratic party has become an immoral bastion of leftwing ideology run by MoveOn and funded by George Soros. Any wonder why I can't stand liberals. They spit in the face of people who stand on principles.

Liberals Better Not Piss Joe Lieberman Off

Even TIME had to put aside its liberal bias and face the fact that the most powerful person in all of Congress is a man by the name of Joe Lieberman.

In his 18 years in the U.S. Senate, Joe Lieberman has cultivated an image of himself as a lonely prude among the morally corrupt, that rare Washington official who places principle above politics. But with the Democrats' hold on power dependent on just one vote — in effect, his — and with Republicans courting him to tilt the balance in their favor, Lieberman has been indulging in some fairly immodest political footsie. Early this year he terrified fellow Democrats by skipping several of the weekly caucus lunches that cement party fidelity in the Senate. Recently he was spotted in the Republican cloakroom talking with South Carolina's Lindsey Graham about reforming Social Security. He even says he might vote Republican for President in 2008, a not-so-veiled hint that he would prefer John McCain, his fellow true believer in the Iraq war, to most, perhaps all, Democratic alternatives.

The Democrats' 2000 candidate for Vice President is the only party member in the Senate supporting President Bush's Iraq policy and says he is "very troubled about the direction the party is heading on foreign policy generally." With his re-election in November, many old allies now rue abandoning him after he lost the Connecticut Democratic primary to Ned Lamont last August. Both sides concede that bitterness remains. "It's still a little painful and awkward," says the majority whip, Dick Durbin, "but I think the caucus counts him as a friend."

Lieberman says leaving the Democratic Party is a "very remote possibility." But even that slight ambiguity — and all his cross-aisle flirtation — has proved more than enough to position Lieberman as the Senate's one-man tipping point. If he were to jump ship, the ensuing shift of power to Republicans would scramble the politics of the war in Iraq, undercut the Democrats' national agenda and potentially weaken their hopes for the White House in 2008. Those stakes are high enough to give Lieberman leverage with both parties no matter how slim the chance of his crossing the aisle. Which means Senate leaders aren't worrying only about whether Joe Lieberman will switch parties. They're wondering what, if anything, he plans to do with the power that comes from keeping that possibility alive.

Funny, I remember a time not too long ago when liberals seemed to have nothing but love for independents.

Joe Lieberman Leads By 17 Points....

ARTFORD, Conn. --Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean delivered a strong endorsement of Ned Lamont Friday, even as a new poll shows the Greenwich businessman trailing U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman by 17 points with less than three weeks until Election Day.

"No one was going to stand up over the Iraq policy until Ned stood up and then the people stood up because Ned was a great leader," Dean said at a rally for Lamont and other Democratic candidates at a downtown sports bar. "We need Ned Lamont."

Dean's appearance came as a new poll showed Lieberman leading Greenwich businessman Lamont 52 percent to 35 percent among likely voters. Lieberman is running as an independent after Lamont rode a wave of anti-war sentiment to an Aug. 8 Democratic primary victory.

According to the poll, released Friday by Quinnipiac University, Republican Alan Schlesinger trailed with 6 percent and 7 percent were undecided. A similar poll released Sept. 28 showed Lieberman with a 10-point lead.

What with the election less than 3 weeks away, it seems as if the Left may be getting a bit concerned about their outrageous backing of One-Issue-Ned Lamont. Mind you, I dont even like Joe Lieberman (except for when he showed some guts by being one of the few Dems to tell Clinton that it's his wife's job to give him blowjobs, not interns). But any person who garners so much hate from the Left, gets nothing but support from me.
