Tavis Smiley: Black People Are Not Better Off Under Obama and the President Ought to Be ‘Held Responsible’

Tavis Smiley isn't an Uncle Tom and nor is he an ass-kissing, black liberal who believes it's criminal to ever criticize Barack Obama. No, Tavis Smiley is a truth-teller who calls it as he sees it, regardless of political ideology or fear-mongering. And for that alone, he should everyone's respect:

As we reported this week, PBS radio host Tavis Smiley debated Fox’s Sean Hannity over the government shutdown. Another interesting nugget from that interview is when Smiley asserted that the lot of black Americans has not improved under this current presidency.

“Are black Americans better off five years into the Obama presidency?” Hannity bluntly asked the political radio host.

“Let me answer your question very forthrightly: No, they are not,” Smiley responded. “The data is going to indicate, sadly, that when the Obama administration is over, black people will have lost ground in every single leading economic indicator category.”

“On that regard,” he added, “the president ought to be held responsible.”

However, Smiley continued, “I respect the president. I will protect the president. And I will correct the president. He’s right on this government shutdown. Republicans are thwarting the rule of law with the Constitution. If they let this debt go into default, they’re trampling again on the Constitution.”

Professor Cornel West: Obama Is A ‘War Criminal’ Like Nixon And Bush

Princeton University Professor Cornel West severely criticized President Barack Obama on Thursday while he co-hosted the Tavis Smiley radio show. West said that Obama’s recently uncovered legal justification for attacks on American citizens in league with Al Qaeda amounted to war crimes. Obama is, like his Republican predecessors Richard Nixon and George W. Bush, a war criminal, West said.


“Your thoughts on this so-called license to kill?” Smiley asked West. 

“The chickens are coming home to roost,” West replied. “We’ve been talking about this for a good while, the immorality of drones, dropping bombs on innocent people, it’s been over 200 children so far. These are war crimes.”

“I think we have to be very honest, let us not be deceived — Nixon, Bush, Obama, they’re war criminals,” West continued. “They have killed innocent people in the name of the struggle for freedom, but they’re suspending the law, very much like Wall Street criminals. The law is suspended for them, but the law applies for the rest of us.”

West highlighted a double standard in conclusion by saying that, if he or Smiley were to conduct themselves as Obama has, they would be sent to prison.

Bill O’Reilly Spars With Tavis Smiley And Cornel West Over Wall Street Corruption

Tavis Smiley and Cornel West appeared on The O’Reilly Factor last night and engaged in a spirited debate with host Bill O’Reilly over poverty, corruption in the financial sector and a jobless rate that is growing to nearly 20% in African-American demographic. The two sides of the debate represented distinct ideological points-of-view, which made for a remarkably compelling discussion of various of hot topics in the news, namely Occupy Wall Street and a struggling economy.


Smiley and West seemed to have been joined at the hip of late, having appeared on numerous television programs to promote their eponymous radio program, as well as bring awareness to the plight of joblessness in the African-American community. They make a formidable and entertaining team, as the each present a similar perspective on what ails the country but with a different skill set.


To help celebrate the 15th anniversary of Fox News, O’Reilly took his show on the road last night, delivering his show live and with a studio audience in Boston. This created quite a different setting for Factor viewers accustomed to the typically controlled environment at Fox News studios.


The discussion was focused primarily on alleged corruption in the financial sector that has been brought under the spotlight with the Occupy Wall Street protests. When O’Reilly cited Merrill Lynch CEO Stanley O’Neal as an example, West asked his host why he cited the one of five black CEOs, to which O’Reilly shot back “knock it off with the black business will ya?”


Credit goes to West, Smiley and O’Reilly for engaging in an earnest, if not at times combative, dialog between what appeared to be diametrically opposed points of view. The only regret was that the debate was so short and not moderated, for this sort of discussion actually seems to bridge a divided nation instead of driving sides away from one another.

Poll: Obama’s Approval Among Blacks Plummets—To 84%

Hey, unemployment for blacks could rise to 50%, and Barry could get caught cheating on Michelle with a white woman and black liberals would still overwhelmingly support him:

A newly released Gallup poll reveals historic lows in President Obama’s job approval rating across three key demographic groups. Among the nation’s largest such group, whites, his approval is at 33%—25 points off his post-election high of 58%. Among the second largest ethnicity, Hispanics, his numbers have dropped even more precipitously, from 75% in January, 2009, to 48% in August of this year.


So far has Obama’s star fallen since he rode to electoral victory on the twin promises of hope and change that his approval among his most loyal constituency, blacks, has tied its all-time low. Having once enjoyed a supernal job approval rating of 92%, Obama now gets the nod from a merely unprecedented 84% of blacks.


Either the members of this ethnic group is the most astute political observers ever, or they are judging the president based on the color of his skin. With black unemployment at its highest rate in 27 years and no indication that that statistic is likely to change soon, one is drawn to the strong likelihood that race is the operant variable.


This is in not to suggest that “home team pride” is not a factor in all of us. Nor is it to dismiss wholesale the possibility suggested by Algernon Austin, director of the Race, Ethnicity, and the Economy program at the Economic Policy Institute, that “racial discrimination in the labor market continues to play a role.”


Yet, as sports fans know, you support your coach only so long as he leads the team to victory. When he stops performing or fails to live up to expectations, you demand that the GM start shopping for a replacement. When will black “fans” grow weary of Coach Obama?

Liberal Blacks Who Don't Love Obama Suffer From 'Tavis Smiley Syndrome'?

Ardent black Obama supporters don't like PBS talk show host Tavis Smiley's argument that Obama is failing to provide enough government support for blacks "catching hell" (try Washington Post editorial writer Jonathan Capehart). On Saturday, a Post book review by Kim McLarin of the new Obama-campaign novel by Pearl Cleage takes the Smiley-hate into fiction:

She even (I think) coins a term that I hope catches on across the country: "Tavis Smiley Syndrome," which is marked by an obsessive tendency to criticize, nitpick or otherwise whine about Obama. Ida diagnoses the disorder in her mother after the latter makes a snarky comment about "the Great God Obama." "Both my parents voted for the man," Ida comments, "and in their hearts, they realize how lucky we are to have him, but it's almost like they can't admit it, even to themselves. Tavis Smiley Syndrome. Easy to recognize, impossible to argue.

Heh. So I guess "Tavis Smiley Syndrome" will become the new "Uncle Tom". Dare to criticize a man whose done nothing for Blacks regarding crime, guns, education and jobs and you're a 'sellout', even a guy like Tavis Smiley who last time I checked was toeing the line as best he could for years now. But then the Left needs race and the black libs are all too willing to walk right into the trap, such a useful purpose they serve.

Tavis Smiley Pwnes Al Sharpton

Longtime liberal pundit gets in Al Sharpton's ass about how Black folks need to start holding Obama accountable for some of the problems facing the Black community today. Unsurprisingly Sharpton, a longtime Obama stan, doesn't want to hear any of it. 95% of Blacks supported Barack Obama in the 2008 election. While Barry has gone of his way to push for gay "rights" and continues to legislate from the white, radical Left, the return Blacks have gotten back on their investment in Obama has been nil to none.
