Soledad O’Brien And Breitbart’s Joel Pollak Clash Over Critical Race Theory

CNN’s Starting Point got heated Thursday as Breitbart.com’s Editor-In-Chief Joel Pollak clashed with host Soledad O’Brien about the significance of the video of President Obama hugging a Harvard professor. O’Brien didn’t quite understand why the recently publicized video was a “bombshell.”


“What part of that was the bombshell? Because I missed it. I don’t get it,” O’Brien exclaimed. “What was a bombshell?”


“Well, the bombshell is the revelation of the relationship between Obama and Derrick Bell,” Pollak pointed out.


“Okay, so he’s a Harvard Law student and a Harvard Law Professor, yeah.” O’Brien added.


“Derrick Bell is the Jeremiah Wright of academia,” Pollak stated. “He passed away last year, but during his lifetime, he developed a theory called critical race theory, which holds that the civil rights movement was a sham and that white supremacy is the order and it must be overthrown.”


“So that is a complete misreading,” O’Brien interrupted. “I’ll stop you there for a second — then I’ll let you continue. That is a complete misreading of critical race theory. That’s an actual theory. You could Google it and some would give you a good definition. So that’s not correct. But keep going.”


“In what way is it a critical misreading?” Pollak countered. “Can you explain to me? Explain to your readers (sic) what it is,”


“I’m going to ask you to continue on,” O’Brien quickly replied. “I’m just going to point out that that is inaccurate. Keep going. Tell me what the bombshell is. I haven’t seen it yet.”


“Well, wait a minute!” Pollak interjected. “You’ve made a claim that my characterization of critical race theory as the opposite of Martin Luther King is inaccurate. You’re telling your viewers that, but you’re not telling them what it is.”


“Critical race theory looks into the intersection of race and politics and the law and as a legal academic who would study this and write about it, he would advance the theory about what exactly happened when the law was examined in terms of racial politics,” O’Brien explained. “There is no white supremacy in that. It is a theory. It’s an academic theory and as one of the leading academics at Harvard Law School, he was one of the people as part of that conversation. So that is a short definition.”


“I’m glad we’ve got you saying that on tape because that’s a complete misrepresentation,” Pollak hit back. “Critical race theory is all about white supremacy. Critical race theory holds that civil rights laws are ineffective, that racial equality is impossible, because the legal and Constitutional in America is white supremacist.”


The two argued over the relevancy of critical race theory to the conversation, with O’Brien trying to move things back to the “bombshell” and Pollak saying, “You can’t derail this, Soledad.” O’Brien eventually concluded that Pollak wanted to make the connection between Obama and the “radical” Bell. Pollak accused O’Brien of obfuscating the real issue, which was the media sweeping things under the rug, and O’Brien began to accuse Pollak of still not understanding critical race theory.


Then Panelist Jay Thomas interjected. He asked if Pollak was afraid that a secret black movement was going to rise up and murder him. Pollak responded by saying he was just accused of being a racist and afraid of black people, but answered Thomas’ query anyway.


“At every point in his life when he could have followed the path of Martin Luther King, he threw in his lot with the Jeremiah Wrights and the Derrick Bells of the world,” Pollak said.


GBTV’s Amy Holmes then chimed in, wondering why the raw video didn’t surface in 2008.


“Of what?!” O’Brien exclaimed. “Of hugging Derrick Bell, the renowned Harvard Law Professor?”


Holmes countered by saying that it should have been something, “for the public to decide, not the media to decide,” and that the media, “did not allow this to be put into the public square.” She then made a stellar observation that she was a vegetarian in college and now enjoys prime rib. It’s not about digging something up on Obama, Holmes explained, it’s about the media not putting it out there.

What a lying, condescending prick that Soledad is. Anyone who ever prescribed to critical race theory in college knows full damn well that it heavily involved white supremacy semantics.

For real liberals compassion is an inbred trait given to anyone in a time of crisis. But for the mostly-white, morally-bankrupt social liberals on the political Left anyone who dares to disagree with their views are not only unworthy of sympathy, but they deserve to die and can rot in hell...even if they're a father of four. But then it's who they are:

I almost hate to draw attention to this incredibly sad example of the intolerant left over at Rolling Stone, but quite frankly, Andrew Breitbart probably would have eaten this up, and tweeted it back out.


Matt Taibi, who delusionally lists himself among the ranks of 'journalist' and 'political writer' took things way too far today, posting a blog entry on the Rolling Stone site which is, in a word - abhorrent.


We've all seen examples of the intolerant left on Twitter, something that sadly is to be expected in such a crazy and unregulated platform. But when you represent a magazine like Rolling Stone and publish something like this, then you've clearly forfeitted your right to ever, ever, call yourself a journalist. You barely have the right to call yourself a man.

Taibbi posted a piece in which the title says it all - Andrew Breitbart: Death of a Douche.


A classy start that goes downhill from there.


So Andrew Breitbart is dead. Here’s what I have to say to that, and I’m sure Breitbart himself would have respected this reaction: Good! Fuck him. I couldn’t be happier that he’s dead.


Taibbi then rounded out his piece with this paragraph, in which he appears to justify his language and contempt because Breitbart has used such language in the past.


But he also had enough of a sense of humor to appreciate why someone like me shouldn’t bother to pretend I’m sad he’s dead. He wouldn’t, in my place. So to use one of his favorite words: Good riddance, cocksucker.* Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.


None of this should be a surprise really, as this man has a history of writing such controversial pieces. Taibbi was mentioned in this New York Times Art section entry for another piece that celebrated the death of a great man.


Jeff Koyen, the editor of New York Press, the pugnacious free weekly, resigned yesterday over a cover article last week that ridiculed the failing health of Pope John Paul II. The article, a column by Matt Taibbi, had the headline "The 52 Funniest Things About the Upcoming Death of the Pope."


While the editor of the New York Press had the decency and common sense to resign over such an incendiary piece, don't expect so much as an apology from Rolling Stone.


This is what they view as 'journalism' there, and it is precisely what Andrew Breitbart has fought against for so many years.


While the sickest members of the liberal media continue to spew their hatred for a man who fought to expose what they truly represent, we can take solace in the fact that Andrew is laughing and retweeting this liberal bile straight from heaven.

Andrew Breitbart, the conservative blogger whose posting of a sexually explicit photo of former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner led to the congressman's downfall, has died, his attorney confirmed Thursday.


He was 43.


Joel Pollak, editor-in-chief and in-house counsel for Breitbart's website, Breitbart.com, posted a statement confirming his death.


"Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles," the statement read. "We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior."


A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said paramedics received an unspecified medical call at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday.. Breitbart was transported to UCLA Medical Center and pronounced dead 19 minutes after midnight, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner.


An autopsy is planned for Friday, Winter said, but the Los Angeles Police Department said it is not investigating the circumstances of his death.


Breitbart was the first to post Weiner's infamous Twitter photos last year, in which the married congressman appeared barechested and in his underpants in pictures sent to a woman online. Weiner eventually stepped down amid the scandal.


Breitbart's regular appearances on FOX News, his websites and his speeches to conservative groups made him a star on the right and a villain to the left.


Republican presidential candidates quickly responded to news of Breitbart's death. Former Sen. Rick Santorum called him a "powerful force" who was "constantly out there driving and pushing."


"What a huge loss, in my opinion, to our country and certainly to the conservative movement," Santorum said.


Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tweeted: "Andrew Breitbart was the most innovative pioneer in conservative activist social media in America. He had great courage and creativity."


And former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney called Breitbart a "brilliant entrepreneur, fearless conservative, loving husband and father."


Breitbart was a driving force in the conservative tea party movement. In a statement on his death, the Tea Party Nation said Breittbart was an "amazing patriot" who"relished fighting those who would destroy this great country."

I wasn't a huge fan of the guy or his tactics or his sometimes mundane defense of them, but the way Breitbart was always willing to get up in the face of the idiots on the insane-Left as well as his many detractors forever got my respect. Either way 43 is way too young to die. RIP.

Andrew Breitbart Says MSNBC Solely Hired Al Sharpton To Play The Race Card

As more and more time passes Black liberals are getting to know their place in the Left wing-hierarchy. Indeed, the fact that noted, race-baiter, ambulance-chaser, scam artist, general charlatan and faux-reverend Al Sharpton now has his own show on MSNBC is further proof that even the higher-ups in the black liberal orthodoxy are more than willing to sell themselves out if it means getting an opportunity to please their white, liberal massahs on the Left. So by having a "Speaker For All Blacks" spokesman like Sharpton on to vouch for their repeated use of the race-card (thus, helping to appeal to black voters and get Barack Obama re-elected), the lily-white, liberal-dominated network that is MSNBC gets a feel of credibility by using Sharpton for a higher gain, despite the fcat that since elected POTUS Barack Obama has done nothing for Black people. Andrew Breitbart is well aware of this and was so kind to speak on it at the recent Conservative Political Action Conference.

Rep. Anthony Weiner Admits In Press Conference He Lied All Along But Vows ‘I Am Not Resigning’

Proof once again that liberals don't have values to begin with. Of course, the irony here is how cocky, arrogant and self-righteous this lying loon was with conservatives, Now all he can do nothing is cry and hang his head in shame. And yes, let Andrew Breitbart's victory march begin:

Today another unpredictable chapter was added to the expanding Weinergate story, as just a few hours ago conservative journalist Andrew Breitbart and his website Big Government unveiled brand new, shirtless photos of Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner that were allegedly sent by Weiner to an unidentified female. Weiner wasted no time responding to these new photos by announcing a press conference, but oddly Breitbart himself appeared in the room and took the podium first.


Breitbart stole the spotlight at first, answering questions from members of the press and said “I’d like an apology from [Weiner]” and “I want to hear the truth.” Then Breitbart joked that “I’ve seen a lot of this Congressman’s body” and that “he’s in very good shape.” And finally, Breitbart suggested he is holding back one explicit photo in order to protect Weiner’s family.


Nearly twenty minutes later Weiner finally appeared and addressed all of the questions. Weiner shockingly admitted “I have made terrible mistakes” and that he lied about his Twitter account being hacked. Weiner confirmed that the pictures were in fact of him, and that he has exchanged pictures of himself with six women over the past few years. However, he stressed that he never had physical relationships with these women and that he never even met them. Some of the exchanges continued to take place after his marriage. Weiner emphasized that “I’m so sorry” and “I haven’t told the truth and I’ve done things I deeply regret.” Before taking many questions from reporters, Weiner reiterated that he apologized to his wife, that he is “deeply ashamed of my terrible judgment and actions” and finally that “I am not resigning.”


Prior to the press conference, questions were swirling whether Weiner could survive this controversy and for how long, or whether Weiner might even announce his resignation. Many believed Weiner hurt himself last week with his decision to conduct a round of interviews that breathed new life into the controversy as he was unable to definitely declare whether or not the man in the Twitter underwear picture was actually him. How today’s decision to come clean about everything will impact his public image remains to be seen.

Andrew Breitbart Blasts Leftwing Bias Of MSNBC

Internet provocateur and cultural-political curator Andrew Breitbart is currently on a rather major promotional tour touting his new book Righteous Indigination. Part of his rhetoric has focused on what he has called the “Democratic media complex,” so it seemed an odd image to see Breitbart actually on MSNBC this afternoon, as host Martin Bashir sat down with the network’s nemesis, in what turned out to be a very entertaining clash interview.


RealClearPolitics sums up the confrontational exchange:


MSNBC’s Martin Bashir asked Breitbart to denounce several racist items, even one that had nothing to do with him. When Bashir accused Breitbart of being connected to racist writer Kevin Pezzi, the interview hit the fan.


Breitbart finally had enough of the equivalent to badgering a witness on the stand and called Bashir out. “You didn’t read my book, Media Matters read it for you,” he told Bashir. Bashir laughed the accusation off, but the Pezzi story was prominently featured at Media Matters’ website.


“Every point that you offered is straight out of George Soros’ funded and John Podesta’s led Media Matters. You are playing the rule of being duped by John Podesta and Eric Boehlert and Media Matters. Every time I appear on MSNBC, or a lot of times, there is Eric Boehlert from Media Matters to be right there. Those are talking points straight out of Media Matters,” Breitbart told Bashir.


Credit to MSNBC for booking Breitbart, and for rightfully challenging him on a number of reasonable points. However, Bashir appeared aloof and above-it-all in a manner that seemed to support Breitbart’s charge of media elitism. When it was announced earlier in the week, a round table on Real Time with Bill MaherAndrew Breitbart and Seth MacFarlane sounded like a guaranteed shoutfest, with Amy Holmes of the Talk Radio Network caught in the crossfire. For anyone who eagerly popped the popcorn thinking Bill Maher was going to make it a bad night for his right-wing guests, it was a disappointing event: the discussion was amicable, civil, and shockingly ended in agreement. involving


The Maher that showed up to this debate– about health care reform, and, later, the failure to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell– was more concerned with pointing out his outrage against President Obama and the Democrats than making any repetitive points about conservatives, with which he clearly does not agree. He refused to understand why Democrats did not campaign on health care reform, to which Holmes and Breitbart retorted extensively that Obamacare is wildly unpopular despite, as Holmes put it, the fact that “they talked about it endlessly.” Between the two of them the phrase “shoved down our throats” came up frequently and, yes MacFarlane was snickering about that in the background. After about the fourth of fifth time used, Maher contested that the time frame in which it was passed makes the throat-shoving theory impossible: “if I had something in my throat for a year, I’d be gay by now.”

Maher continued to blame the Democrats for not being able to adequately prove that their system was better, and here there was a rare moment of visceral disagreement– from Breitbart, who refused to leave the Republicans behind. “[Republicans] are now suffering because of the Tea Party… They’re not even close to what the Tea Party wants out there,” he argued– or, at least, not any closer than the Democrats are. Breitbart also challenged Maher on his supposed libertarianism: “You’re officially not a libertarian anymore, right?… you admit that you have a more European socialist tendency?”

A sub-theme of the GOP's 2010 midterm election strategy is that Democrats have become corrupt -- that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's plans to "drain the swamp" were just talk.

The ethics woes of Reps. Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel have strengthened the argument, and it's possible another name may be added to the list.

BigGovernment.com -- a site run by conservative Andrew Breitbart, who created a firestorm this summer with his release of a video of Shirley Sherrod that was edited to make her appear racist -- has obtained audio ostensibly of D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton shaking down an unnamed lobbyist.


While most citizens would probably be shocked to hear even the most ethical political leader asking for money, BigGovernment argues Norton -- Washington's non-voting House member -- may have crossed the line for a variety of reasons, including:

"her frequent mention of her seniority and her Chairmanship of a subcommittee. She is attempting to solicit funds based on her past actions taken in her official capacity in Congress. She is implying to the lobbyist that, should he decline to donate, he will be turning down a senior member of Congress who Chairs a subcommittee highly relevant to his "sector".

. . . Worse than that, she details her role overseeing a large economic development project in the District, funded by 'stimulus' funds. It would appear that either the lobbyist has an interest in this project, or the Congresswoman thinks he does, as she states she is 'frankly surprised' the lobbyist hasn't given to her.

Shirley Sherrod Explains To CNN Why She Turned Down Vilsack's Job Offer

Shirley Sherrod, the Agriculture Dept. official who was ousted after Andrew Breitbart posted an incomplete video clip of her speech to the NAACP, has declined Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack’s offer of a new position at the department. It was Vilsack who demanded Sherrod’s resignation, and stuck by his decision even after he knew her side of the story, actions that apparently played a part in Sherrod’s decision not to return to his employ.

While declining the new post, Sherrod left open the possibility of working with the Department of agriculture in the future:

She told reporters she did not think she could say yes to a job “at this point, with all that has happened.” There had been indications that Vilsack, who apologized to Sherwood for pushing her out, had offered her a position in the Office of Advocacy and Outreach, which works in the civil rights area.

“It is a new position,” she said. “I look at what happened ow. I know he has apologized and I accept that. A new process is in place and I hope that it works. … I think I can be helpful to him and the department if I just take a little break and look at how I can be more helpful in the future,” Sherrod said.

This looks like a wise decision by Sherrod, whose high profile will allow her to be a much more effective civil rights advocate from outside the department.

Good, now she can just go away.

Shirley Sherrod To Sue Abderw Breitbart

Ousted Agriculture Department staffer Shirley Sherrod said Thursday she plans to sue the conservative blogger who falsely portrayed her as a racist.

"I will definitely do it," Sherrod said at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in San Diego.

Sherrod said Andrew Breitbart knew what he was doing when he posted a doctored video that made it appear she was boasting about mistreating a white farmer.

"I knew it was racism, and no one had to tell me that," she said. "Right will win the end."

Breitbart, still "hasn't apologized," Sherrod added.

"I wish he had come here because I would really like to talk to him," she said. "He has to know that he was targeting me."

Breitbart accepted an invitation from the NABJ to offer his side of the racially-charged story but the two sides could not come to an agreement on the final details, sources said.

There was no immediate response from Breitbart to Sherrod's announcement that she was taking him to court.

I don't see how she wins esp. considering that Breitbart made it clear from the beginning that it was the NAACP that he was going after with that tape, not Sherrod. Then too libel is extremely hard to prove and since she admittedly did at one point have racist thoughts, doesn't Breitbart point (that the NAACP has a double standard when it comes to racism) hold true considering the fact that the audience clapped after Sherrod spoke of the bias she had against that white farmer she mentioned?

A bewhiskered Jon Stewart returned from his recent two week vacation and addressed the latest political news controversy: the scandal surrounding former USDA staffer Shirley Sherrod’s unfair dismissal after allegations of racist comments were revealed to be out of context. Stewart spared no one complicit in the whole clusterf*ck, save one unlikely participant: Internet provocateur Andrew Breitbart, the individual who first published the heavily edited video of Sherrod’s comments. Say what?

After railing against Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack for saying that Sherrod’s dismissal “should have been done in a more personal way, with far more thought and far less haste,” he then mocked the NAACP for claiming to have been “snookered” and the White House’s unique non-apology apology. Shockingly, however, Stewart appeared to give Andrew Breitbart a pass – not for his actions, per se, but rather his candor in admitting his agenda five months back:

Stewart: First of all, Fox News is too busy with their black panther hard-on to bother much with this. And Andrew Breitbart, the guy who leaked the edited tape, may be the most honest person in this entire story. This is what he said five months ago:

Bretibart (from file footage): I want to be in the history books saying I took down the institutional left.

Stewart: See he didn’t say “I want to be in the history books a aparagon of honesty,” he didn’t say “I would like to be in the Museum of Broadacsting, and to be known by children around the wold as Arnold B. Truthington of Accuracy Lane.”

No ,he said out loud “I want to bring down the institutional left.” So if you are on the institutional left, and you see the package from him, watch the whole (bleep) tape. How is that snookering?

While many in the media have lambasted Breitbart for his part in this story – and much of that has been deserved – Stewart makes a rather brave point. Breitbart has always been clear with his agenda, so no one should be shocked when it is effective. Lesson learned?

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer Hits Andrew Breitbart for Appearing at Political Fundraiser, But She's Done the Same

On Monday's News Live, MSNBC's Contessa Brewer expressed incredulity at the revelation that journalist Andrew Breitbart will be appearing at a Republican fundraiser. "I mean, really? Is he going to be a good fund-raiser for the Republicans?" 


Reporter Richard Wolffe lectured, "Because if he is that much of a political activist that he is raising money for the RNC, then he is not quite the journalist he describes himself as." 

Yet, those exact words could be put to Brewer. On July 24, she was the featured guest at a fundraiser in Kentucky for gay rights. This despite the fact that the anchor has also reported on gay rights for MSNBC. On the July 12 News Live, she wondered why American politicians weren't "taking a stand" on ending Don't Ask, Don't tell.


Brewer lectured, "Why aren't more American leaders itching for a fight on gay rights?" Wouldn't this be the type of journalistic contradiction that Brewer and Wolffe were complaining about? 

At Saturday's event, which took place in Kentucky, Brewer asserted, "I've never taken a public stand on a controversial issue. Gay rights are civil rights. Gay rights are human rights and given the invitation to speak, I could not, in good conscience, remain silent."

Yeah, a well-paid white female journalist who works at a lily-white, cable news network should definitely understand a thing or two about "civil rights". Selective "OUTRAGE!" anyone?

Personally, I don't think Rush Limbaugh's a racist, he just stays some dumb stuff sometimes that makes it easy for liberals to call him one. As for this contest, I'll call it a draw as both were given fair time to get their darts in and overall neither at any point one-upped the other (btw, Bill Maher's Left-leaning crowd do not make fair judges).
